Isn't there a hard limit on power consumption? On my reference 6750 XT, it's 200 W. I doubt it could exceed that just because of a driver update, but I'll test it in a bit.
Yeah, hard limit (well, max PPT) is 170W on mines, MPT. 160W without MPT.
Didn't even reach the latter before on most games.

Do you see any performance decrease in games where it did reach the limit before?

Nothing really hit the limit except Time Spy, and Time Spy runs a tad better, but not too much. Just about the same there.

Also if you let it go wild on time spy... well, it will go wild. Jesus. Gonna get a run with 170W PPT and see if it's any worse than before, but it doesn't look like so.

Also yes, 30C difference hotspot/core. With 170W its 20C. Dunno why, but also this card shouldn't really go to 200 freaking watts imo, geez.

EDIT 2: With max TGP set to 184W (same as the previous run I posted here), I get like 150 less points. Game performance is a LOT better though, but core clock throttling is now a lot more on 3DMark.

If anyone has Valheim play it in vulkan for like 2 hours see if it still crashes gpu drivers, suposely fixed in an older driver.

Always ran great for me except on directx when on heavy build, i can defiantly push fps down to 30 with epic build on my 6900 XT graphic settings are not gonna change that.

What's this? Doesn't a factory reset mean getting rid of my user settings? :kookoo:

200 W... strange. Did the new driver turn your card into a 6750 XT?

I don't know. I set that as the PPT limit and lo and behold, it will use 200W if you let it use 200W (was 195W PPT). I wonder why, it didn't do that before. Even in games I can now see way higher power consumption, BL3 will use 180W if I let it use 180W. Didn't go over 165W before, and had max PPT at 184, now I set it to 170W to have a sane default since games are sipping way more power than I expected.

Though, to be fair to BL3, it uses about 168W regularly, not too much more than that.

Are you using stress test to see power limit cos that been broken for a really long time it uses to hit higher limits on mine also only uses about 200w but only the stress test

Borderlands power just went up the roof too. Runs a little better, though.

I've just got the driver installed and tested.

In Speedway, my PC gets 2333 points with the new driver, 2195 with 22.11.2 (+6%).
In Port Royal, it's 6289 with the new driver, 5805 with 22.11.2 (+8%).
In Time Spy Extreme, it's 6149 (6071 graphics) with the new driver, 6220 (6154 graphics) with 22.11.2 (-1%).

Max. power consumption is the same as before: 200 W.

Strange.

I wanted to check whether it would use more if I *gave* it more, as the clock speed was slower. Time Spy for me has always been PPT limited, honestly.

Power consumption in game is another story, though, I definitely see more power being used in games that didn't hit PPT limit before (BL3 and RDR2 for example)

I picked PPT limited tests on purpose to get that out of the picture. There's something else going on here besides an increased power consumption in light loads.

Edit:
Actually, the two tests that saw an increase use RT, so maybe AMD did something with the way RT is handled, or prioritised, or something. Maybe the RT cores get more of the power budget when they're heavily used.

I've seen a FPS increase to back up the increased power consumption, that's for sure. About 10 in RDR2 and about 5~8 on BL3. Don't have 3DMark Advanced Edition to run anything but Time Spy to compare.

EDIT: Metro Exodus using RT lightning has a way higher FPS. What is going on here lmao, did AMD optimize RT?

Hm, now I'll have to test Port Royal on my GPU, Time Spy and Superposition have decreased a bit in score.

Can confirm Time Spy score is marginally lower. About 200 points for me, but it's somehow because I'm seeing the clocks back down WAY more than before (I saw it as low as 2200MHz, in game it does 2630MHz ish, seems like power draw is high enough to cause even more clock speed throttling, lowest I saw before this update was about 2330). Superposition is a bit higher for me.

my wattage is the same in God of War temps and clocks all the same. i do think i am getting about 5 fps better though. its hard to tell since it fluctuates, meh its all good. these are good drivers imo, so were the last ones.

still can't believe my core temp is 63 celsius but then my hotspot is 91 celsius, i know its normal, just bugs me. feel like my entire life has been a lie. all those years when i was reading core temp and never had access to hotspot temp... wish they never showed us hotspot temp, I'd be so fucking happy right now seeing that 63 celsius.

:( ice cream will make me feel better

my wattage is the same in God of War temps and clocks all the same. i do think i am getting about 5 fps better though. its hard to tell since it fluctuates, meh its all good. these are good drivers imo, so were the last ones.

still can't believe my core temp is 63 celsius but then my hotspot is 91 celsius, i know its normal, just bugs me. feel like my entire life has been a lie. all those years when i was reading core temp and never had access to hotspot temp... wish they never showed us hotspot temp, I'd be so fucking happy right now seeing that 63 celsius.

:( ice cream will make me feel better
Seems to depend on card/game/workload. I get about the same power consumption on some DX11 games like Warframe.
EDIT: Even in borderlands it seems to depend on what area am on.

On my 6800XT, Port Royal is 6.7% faster with the new drivers under identical test conditions. I mistakenly compared to full overclock/undervolt with the new drivers which was 16.2% but then realized I'd never run PR with the old driver with full UV/OC. Oops! At full UV/OC, peaks at 314W, ranging between 2430 and 2550MHz depending on whats on screen.

Speed Way is 6.5% faster (same UV/OC conditions) and that uses RT effects, too.

Isn't there a hard limit on power consumption? On my reference 6750 XT, it's 200 W. I doubt it could exceed that just because of a driver update, but I'll test it in a bit.
6750XT is easily 230W, at least in the case of Sapphire Nitro+.

I just realised but

This was fixed way before 22.11.2 i believe still cool they listed this fixed still despite never being listed as known issue
Talking about this issue

Please do share your experiences if you have any negative experience, others may be able to reproduce helping in a bug report.
I need to test Valheim now with vulkan see if still crashes or crashes gpu drivers.
IIRC, it didn't mention a driver timeout issue. I only had those with unstable SCLK OC, mainly.

6750XT Pulse has a PPT limit of 210W.
