The Y40 is the first true mainstream Mid-Tower chassis from HYTE, constructed with the same design DNA as its bigger sibling the Y60, while offering the same unique features and functions in a more compact envelope and at a lower cost of entry. Can the Y40 further establish the young brand as a force to be reckoned with?

As with the other case they made, nice design ruined by forced vertical GPU mounting.

I have a very big problem with HYTE's logic for their cases
when you mount the video card vertically there is no room to mount anything else in the PCIe slots - the brackets are only for half-height cards and not all the cards can be fitted within this limitation
they put aesthetics in front of function and that is a no-no for me

$150 is to much for case with so bad thermals, not to mention how cheap is looking. For same price you can get much better case like Lian li Lancool III.
How is that highly recommended?

Most people building a modern gaming PC don't use other add in cards, but afaik you can remove the riser and build it normally. I like that a PCIe 4.0 riser is included, these things are pricy.

I only wish HYTE/iBuyPower worked out the South American distribution. Back when the Y60 launched I was told there would be global availability... Nothing yet, there is no sign of these in the Brazilian market.

no I don't think you can because the slots, the normal slots are half height
and then what? you can't mount the video card the normal way - that's what I don't get what HYTE was thinking with this

"modern gaming PC" - wtf does that even mean?! it's a buzz word for look how much money I put in my PC and no one can see it, but I look at it every day to remind myself of it
a PC is a tool and nothing more, the RGB crap and mounting video cards vertically is lunacy

My experience with this case, it looks nice and is well built but I have two main problems with it:
  • Forced vertical mounting, when it feels like they could have definitely built it to support both with the amount of empty space in the mounting brackets.
  • Bad GPU thermals since it's mostly a closed box with solid bottom shroud. The bottom fan almost does nothing with where it's positioned, barely a difference even if you put a 140mm fan there on full blast.
It's clearly a case that sacrifices some thermals for aesthetics but really feels they could've done better.

simple and elegant I like it. though I am deadset on my next case being capable of holding a 420mm AIO Arctic cooler.

I require all the water!!!! :rockout:

Half-height on this model I guess, I forgot to account for that. But well, I still don't see the problem; sound cards are generally extinct, largely replaced by USB DACs, high-performance SSDs use M.2 form factor and take no real estate (or SATA if you insist), networking on a gaming PC is largely handled by the motherboard's own integrated NIC. Even capture cards are USB nowadays, so vertically mounting a GPU to showcase it is not amongst the things I would call a flaw on this case. It's targeted at a very specific niche of people building semi-compact gaming PCs.

If you need a PCI Express AIC SSD, network or sound cards, there's both the Y60 and other cases in the market for you, this more than likely isn't what you are looking for.

For a company, that said they gonna beat Corsair in cases' sales, this is not a good start.

Tool/lunacy/RGB yeah I get the picture but thats like your opinion and just like this case and its design its clear that there is a need for such stuff cause this is what sells nowadays you like it or not.
In my case my PC is not just a tool its a part of my room's overall look and pretty much a center piece and how it looks does matter to me.

RGB does not equal unicorn rainbow puke only, it means that based on my mood I can switch between colors cause you know mood lighting exist.
I keep my RGB to 1 static color and change it randomly but usually every few weeks. 'just changed everything to sky blue yesterday'

Vertical GPU mount yea thats more of a niche thing but same applies to that, my brother happens to be one who has a vertical GPU mounted case and hes not even a gamer anymore he just likes the look of his PC that way. 'custom water loop and more RGB than I have as a gamer..'
O ye before you bring up the we must be kids argument no I'm close to 34 and my bro is 36.

Sigh, its like every time I explain this there is 10 more of 'you' show up with the same stuck in the past minimalist mindset who has to 'hate' on anything new/modern-ish for whatever reason. 'sry for the off and mods if this is not okay here you can delete this reply'

I don't understand the popularity of this design. The thermals are terrible and it looks gimmicky to me.

To be honest, I would hop out of my O11 Dynamic for this. Stock thermals might not be great, but that's not my biggest qualm when I'm going to be swapping out the fans anyway (FHP141 hiding in the floor and on the two side fans. Thermalright ARGB ones for the roof and rear.

Now to go see if it comes in something other than red
