Even in the current climate, this thing needs to be $500 or less.
Initially i saw 749 as 479. Maybe the mlid source is confused. It can't be just $50 for so much cutting going on plus only 64 Rops.

They want to switch to complete vertical integration in their products Apple style
The reason why they wanted to buy ARM and have complete control over that platform. Also the reason why I am saying that without discrete graphics cards Intel could be in danger in the future to lose a huge part of the mainstream market. If Nvidia have gotten ARM, it wouldn't be difficult for them to start offering complete, full Nvidia, gaming and productivity systems. No Intel inside, no AMD inside. They could keep offering their GPUs for the X86 platform at those ridiculous prices we see today, or even higher tomorrow, while putting much lower price tags on their "full Nvidia" systems with equivalent GPUs, to attract buyers. Imagine a full X86 system build with a future RTX 6080 costing $3500 and an Nvidia ARM based gaming system with the same RTX 6080 GPU costing about $2000.

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
I wasn't expecting to be so wrong. I was saying $650-$700 when others where saying $600 or less. But I was so so wrong.

THE MORE YOU PAY THE MORE YOU SAVE.

Oh my, Nvidia fans will have a really tough job justifying this price.

Wait....wait wait wait. What am I saying? It's easy. IT's AMD's FAULT!!!!
Easy...

PS Nvidia is using the same tacktic as with 4080 and 4090. It puts a really bad deal under an already overpriced product to make it look like a great deal.
4080, 4090 and now 4070, 4070 Ti.
I guess 4060 Ti will be expensive, but OK and 4060 expensive and terrible deal.
The problem with the 4060Ti is that it's rumoured to have just 8GB of VRAM.

Well, one of the problems. The other problems will almost certainly include price and cut-down memory bus, to name a couple.

Don't know why anyone would be surprised at $700 - $750 price. Nvidia clearly set the stage with the ultra-over-priced $1200 RTX 4080. Being that the starting point, why would the 4070 cost anything less than $700?

They should release on the April Fool's day. A total joke for a xx70 card being sold for 750USD.

Until they upgrade to a 4K monitor...
Wait, wut? I play at 4K with no issues with a 6700 XT.

and then start to fall behind
DLSS 3.0

I'll switch to consoles when the follow is possible.

  • Play PC Games from the 90's - 2000's era.
  • Run Steam, GOG and Epic Launchers.
  • Run applications like Photoshop and reWASD.
  • Non-Laggy Mouse and Keyboard support.
  • Run a browser with uBlock Origin support.
  • Ability to mod my games and install fan patches.
  • Convert movies to H.265 (NVENC) with Handbrake.
So for now i'll stick to a PC thank you every much.

Any APU based PC can do all these. If H.265 is important, then maybe an Intel based system with a modern iGPU will be a better option.
Then a console can do the gaming part. The problem here is maintaining two different systems.

Yes, but i'm on 2k, i just received an all new flat-VA 27" 1440p 240hz yesterday...
First of all, not 2k but QHD. 1920x1080 could be named 2k, unlike something that is rounded to 3k. Second of all, this AOC has bad response times and their 165Hz model has far less ghosting.

Back to the topic - monopolies are bad, mkay? NVIDIA wanted Arm, now they want an arm and a leg.

I have my theory for these crazy price bumps.
Nvidia and AMD are getting caught at their own game. They have been trying hard to push boundaries with performance, but there's something that many people seem to forget: performance has a limit when it comes to "enjoying it"
Just like phones, modern GPUs are getting so fast, especially now with DLSS3 that less and less people will consider upgrading every gen or so..
Look at phones and how Samsung has upgraded their updates schedule. It's because they KNOW that people now keep their phones for more than 4 years! And they want them to stay with Samsung!
We're getting close to a point where we almost have too much performance... With massive bottlenecks such as resolutions (who can tell the difference between 4k and 8k on a monitor?), games not getting any particulary beautiful anymore... Who's going to upgrade their 4090 next gen if they play at 1440p or 4K? There's no point! And the 5000 series will make this even worse!
A good exemple of that are SSDs. Why are SSDs sales dropping so hard? Well it's because many people got their hands on the fastest gen 4s out there.. Which means that they won't have any reasons to upgrade anymore for a while! While all these brands are investing in Gen 5, which won't make a difference for 99% of people!
This particular exemple can be applied to gpus aswell.
We need a major technological advancement to be convinced to upgrade. This is why Nvidia pushed DLSS and RTX. And locked DLSS3 to 4000s. Because they KNOW that people are getting "too satisfied" with what they have!
Products such as games are failing to follow the crazy pace that manufacturers like Nvidia have set.

As expected from a big company leading in the market with the best product...
It's sad,
but it is the reality we live in.
That only applies to 4090. 4070 is trash, especially at that price.

I wouldn't buy that card.
First of all, it's ASRock, second of all, drivers are bad and third of all I could buy 4070ti for the same amount of money.
Performance doesn't matter in some cases.
Nvidia has a better product.
Better product doesn't always mean better performance.
I would love to be able to say AMD driver support is stellar, but it's not.
Every driver iteration people have to root out previous drivers with DDU, I mean, come on...

Nvidia went way too far with its pricing of 40 series... Way, way too far.
It's unreasonable,
but I'll be a fool once more and repeat:
they have a better product.

Sorry but I didn't experience any of that BS with my Vega 64 but I also bought it more than six months after launch. I've been running a 3060ti now for a long time and the GeForce Experience is still a hot steaming pile. So go ahead and pay more for less. I am DONE with Nvidia and their pushy, greedy ways. I would rather game only on consoles than help them ruin PC gaming.

I hope my GTX 950 doesn't die anytime soon. I blame myself for wanting to make a bigger jump than just the 1650 Super and waiting for Ampere. At least I would have a passively cooled rig at idle. 3000h in Europa Universalis IV soon, and I have only played with 3 nations, so still a lot to do. The newest Total War games must wait for better times.

HAHA! Quick, everyone! Turn on that frame generation software to increase latency because.....
Because.....
Ummm.....
Well, because....we need some kind of lame method to make your purchase appear worthwhile and prove that you're getting more for your money.

No thanks. I wouldn't waste my money on Nvidia for this feature now or anytime in the future. If Nvidia needs to rely on special software to keep their new hardware relevant, then they're doing something wrong. I don't even use DLSS/DLSS2 with my 3080. I've tried and the end results always has some kind of fuzzy haze in parts of the game and I don't like it.....almost like a constant motion blur is active.

I'd still buy 4070 rather than 7900xt and avoid loads of problems with AMD drivers...
Just a thought.
This isn't 2010. Just a thought.

...and nothing has changed since...
just another thought

edit:
to elaborate:
I have a friend who recently bought 7900xt
I mean, there's nothing wrong with the card
it's just that he can't seem to install the drivers properly.
After installing the latest drivers all he gets is a black screen.
He had to install an older driver just to get a picture on his screen.

Now, you tell me people, how some people install AMD drivers properly and some can't.
With or without DDU.

To cut the long story short; he's returning his card to buy Ngreedia like we all say here.

I understand inflation and all, but regarding GPUs - it's simply greed. Other components, like storage, even high endish one has definitely seen improvements in all senses, cost per 1 GB and all that.
GPUs, however jumped up to heaven after Covid start (with couple signs before) - and never let go afterwards, there always was another excuse.
Yes, voting with your wallet is an empty pipe dream, but accepting this? Nah. Then again considering the dropping sales and their attempts to compensate that by even higher prices... it might fail and they will be forced to make changes.

But yes, if you have a good recentish card right now - stick to it, upgrade the rest.
