The solution is not for the gamers to buy an inferior product in order to punish nVidia.
There are really some reeeeally stupid people writing on these forums...
I sometimes surprise myself but damn
to these people it's all about "ngreedia" when AMD does the same stuff with inferior product
They all know everything there is to know when they know so damn little

I had a real problem with a real 7900xt the other day
It was a nightmare to fix
Now that same person decided to take it back for a 4070ti
using his old 980 as a replacement

Who would buy something that can break with a new driver install?

I mean the RTX 4070Ti is a planed obsolescent card from its price point, on its day of release to market.
12Gigs of Vram for about a grand?

You go ahead and buy your 7900xtx for 1100 dollars
I will do with my money whatever the hell I please

As for the drivers; I had black screen problem I had to fix on my friends 7900xt
Go and point your head to the real brick wall.
I am not paying Nvidia neither AMD $1000 or more for 300W-500W overpriced furnaces. I am not paying $1000 for smartphones either, not paying double the price for PCIe 4.0 SSDs that offer almost nothing compared to PCIe 3.0 SSDs in real usage experience (I am full of mid range NVMe SSDs in 3 PCs), in any case I am not swallowing corporation marketing to make them happy.
You seem to want to pay $1000 for a card and also in need to justify this buy first to yourself. Well, good luck with that.

For me, to give them my money, they will first have to provide a sub $400-$500 mid range card that can be considered good value and I mean REALLY good value, not the lesser bad option, then I will happily buy. Going from my sub $300 budget rule, to over $400 is already a win for those corporations. But I do set a limit and that isn't going to be $1000 or more. It's not a financial problem, I can buy an RTX 4090 and just let it playback YouTube videos, I just don't want to feel (personally) as a complete stupid by paying $1000+ for a graphics card.

You don't need stupid Geforce Experience to use a GTX or RTX card
hell, you can even use NVcleanstall to install just the drivers as many people like myself actually do.

All you know is to laugh and write stupid comments.

You're the one who's using one anecdote to harp on and on about AMD's poor drivers. Some of us have used both AMD and Nvidia for decades and have enough experience with either to make up our own minds.

If only AMD weren't so greedy and priced their GPUs like they priced first gen Ryzen. They seem to be blind to how they achieved their own success.
No, they just don't care about gaming GPUs this period. And with consumers turning their back to them, why bother? They concentrate on servers, APUs for laptops and just avoid starting a price war with Nvidia, that they will definitely lose. Why? Because Nvidia enjoys both higher profit margins and the loyalty of consumers, meaning even if AMD starts selling 7900 XT at $650 with like 25% profit margin, Nvidia will still keep selling 5-10 times more RTX 4070s at $750 with their regular 60-65% profit margin.

And how do you know which GPUs have I been using these past 20+ years?
On what basis do you think I base my own opinions?
You go buy whatever the hell you want.

All this need to pass the message "Nvidia is better, get over it people", makes you an Nvidia fanboy. It doesn't matter if you are not going to pay Nvidia $1000. Your posting screams "Nvidia fanboy".
You are just trying so hard to justify these prices with "AMD bad drivers, AMD black screens, AMD explodes and kills the owner before having time to return their product for a refund". I am obviously making a little fun here, but I guess you get my point.

....nVidia put the 4080 and 4090 over the Amperes because of the existing stock of 3000 gpus. These Ada models never came to replace any of the Amperes. The 4070 and 4070Ti offer ''Ampere'' level performance, so they must be cheaper than them.
A few days ago nVidia removed some Ampere gpus from their shop. That's a first indication that gradually we are moving towards the Ampere replacement. But not yet.

The 4070 at 649pounds/699$ is still bad when a 3080 offered the same performance at the same price 2.5 years ago.
And yes, DLSS3 is what we pay for this gen but it shouldn't cost that much.

I'm seeing 3080s for $800-$900

Already the 4070 TI enjoys 3090-TI-like 20% avg performance uplift over a 3080. +Similar 20% uptrend in ray tracing performance. +DLSS3 slapped on top. Assuming the 4070 TI "marginally beats" the 3080 or sits in the region of a 3090, thats enough for NVIDIA to push $750. I'm having a hard time seeing NVIDIA dipping below $700-$750... there's a market for it and the green monster ain't playin nice, its hungry!! It's down to consumer inclinations and whether they will take the bait.

About existing stock... usually newer Gen cards have always resembled their previous Gen counterparts. At best, a $50-$100 increase depending on the level performance increase/features. 40-series is something else... an opportunistic realisation through the crypto/pandemic craze. Could you imagine the board members sitting around the nV knight templar round table seeing people going nuts over 30-series overpriced retail offerings + massive price spike re-offerings with scalpers = NVIDIA can't get enough (in-house scalping like theres no tomorrow with AMD left trailing to make any meaningful impact)

Honestly, MLID is bottom feeding clickbait and yes I agree completely.

But I generally value those statements at sub zero. Every idiot can guess where the next release ends up in the stack. The release of the top end SKUs already set the stage. This is corporate living in fantasy land, power to them, I'm a no buy customer kthxbai

Same goes for AMD who's still content with sellers peddling RX 6800 (-XT) at price/perf close to or over MSRP. The universal message from me shall always be 'go f*ck yourself'... I'll be buying a console long before I feel being forced into a bad discrete GPU deal, or I'll just stretch the current one that much longer, no biggie.
GTX 1080 was the best card ever, along with the 1070 and 1080 Ti. We've not had a graphics focused GPU ever since.

Yeah Pascal was great.... I owned 2x 1080s, 2x 1080ti, and a Titan Xp. I did find the flagships to be quite a bit better than the 1080 though in general. This was the last generation I ran Sli as much as I'm glad that technology is dead I kinda miss running two high end gpus.

I did enjoy Maxwell owned 2x 970s and a 980ti.

Alas we will never get generations like either again the days of the 500-700 usd flagship are long dead.

Every time Jensen reads this kind of posts, he laughs and then he sends an internal email to his marketing department, with one short line of text
"We can increase prices further. Please calculate higher price points for the next series"

I hope he reads TPU, 'cause I extend Linus Torvalds' signature greeting towards Nvidia

Damn cards are already costing about the same as an entry level car in my country

F*** this, my xx70 targets all these years are in shambles, ill just maybe keep my 1070 till it croaks and maybe buy a 3060 12gb or whatever is mid/low end at that time
I still feel violated when I bought my RTX3070Ti, I really had no choice in the matter. But this thing... I hope it lasts as long as my old GPU, screw nVidia.

By far the best comment I've seen in this thread. You made my day.
Thank you. The price is so absurd that there is nothing more one could do than unleash humour.

By the way, much better value incentives are not unheard of in capitalism. A flagship Samsung Galaxy Note was sold a few years ago on their website for over €700. For cash purchase, they offered a bundle with freee VR headset and free two tickets for a concert of famous rock group, all together worth ~€350 on the top of the phone price. Nvidia merely offers a game. It's laughable.

The solution is not for the gamers to buy an inferior product in order to punish nVidia.
My current 4070 Ti was far superior to my old 1070, and i'm enjoying the hell out of it.

superiority and the level of joy is hardly in question. It's the price! I suspect, for most, the asking price alone shattered a ton of optimisms. Some have waited for years to upgrade and patience didn't pay off. So a pretty hard-hit disappointment. Although for the cash splurge willing i'm glad you're enjoying the hell out of it... possibly a x3-x4 fold massive performance uplift over a 1070!

and all I did was convey my experiences from on hand hardware.

Nvidia has better driver support - get over it people
and when it's time for me to upgrade it most certainly will be nvidia just for that reason.
You don't need stupid Geforce Experience to use a GTX or RTX card
hell, you can even use NVcleanstall to install just the drivers as many people like myself actually do.

All you know is to laugh and write stupid comments.
Think before you write.
Think.
I havent had issues on my main build with a 6800xt.

Drivers install fine

I got rid of MSI afterburner. Because AMD drivers just work, and I can OC and tweak fans without a third party program.
AMD overlay works way better then afterburner's
Best part? I didnt need an account with nvidia to accomplish any of this.
AMD's drivers are great.

Think.

It's pretty clear that nothing I say, even with a skeptical, formed opinion from actual use, will change your mind.

FG wasn't even on my radar as a reason to buy Ada. I still think RT is meh and up-scaling should be burned with fire, but in my experience with FG, it's a feature that has an actual use - higher visible frame rate with lower power consumption and lower CPU requirements.

I guess I don't see what's humorous seeing that as a useful feature.

Odd. The fact it does nothing to improve latency vs use by traditional rendering at the same frame rate, introduction of visual artifacts, ghosting, flickering, stretching images in games with camera swapping, UI glitches everywhere, and so on… Doesn’t seem like any more of a pointless feature than upscaling.

....nVidia put the 4080 and 4090 over the Amperes because of the existing stock of 3000 gpus.
Oh, so when rtx 3000 inventory dries, nvidia will discount the 4080 by $400? LOL......

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with the 4000 series. Hopefully you were able to get a full refund.
