What kind of motor do those hollow Dyson toys use? Assuming it's a cheap brushed motor like those in normal hair dryers, replacing it with a brushless one would at least remove one source of loud noise.

Funny enough, the motors used in their hair dryer are 'tuned' to make mostly inaudible noise.
I wouldn't be surprised if their 'fans' have the same tech, but between tolerances and production-quality, might be 'out of spec' and Dyson couldn't care less.

I am seeing Silverstone getting bombarded with emails asking for that case to become a real product.

I would totally buy one, in beige.

The most important computer in my life was beige. It wasn't good, but I built it myself with nothing more than guesswork and a motherboard manual. I'd have asked the internet for help the internet sites we take for granted today were sold in paperback at the local newsagents back in those days.

The first two or three computers in my life were beige, the others (desktops at least) were and are white. The keyboard is the same beige colour as this new SS-FLP525 case, was probably white when new.

Srsly? That was not enough of an April fools joke, that was quite a relatable and realistic looking product with great styling for retro builds, would be a retro slam dunk of a case. Don't forget to include an ATX to BabyAT I/O Shield with the hole for the DIN9!

An attempt at smiles and laughs has turned into disappointment.
IMHO, This has not been good PR for SilverStone.

Yeah, I was not jesting in my previous comment that I'd fancy a case like that. Desktop case with 2x 5'25 bays, and esp. ATX PSU is NOT a common sight.

Hmmm, maybe get one of those $20-30 ATX "Open Air Graphics Card Bracket 4 GPU Computer Chassis Mining Rig Frame Case" and just start hacking up whatever (otherwise fitting) AT Desktop case you could find. The Frame could be slotted-in (a lot like many Lian-Li cases, IIRC)

Sadly, what folks over at SilverStone consider eWaste, goes for a pretty penny on the secondary markets. I was just looking around eBay for something like that, and anything even remotely alike was well over $100 plus freight/shipping (which, was usually nearly as much).

I wish I had connections to whoever makes those flattering (read: imitation) generic cases out of China:
-If the import markets can sell "Retro Tube Amplifier(s)" like they do, I can see "Retro PC Chassis" happening.

Yeah, too niche for sure - and those dedicated to seriously wanting one could just as easily grab a knackered old HP/Compaq/IBM 286 or 386 from ebay and convert it to ATX relatively easily.

leftover stock from fermi GPUs, is my guess.

The design requires a powerful fan to move air in a direction fans aren't great at, they put the form over function. A regular fan into a tunnel with a 'tennis racket' shaped vent on the top would do the job just fine, but they REALLY wanted to make it look "Fanless"

I have respect for people who build, restore and maintain early PCs and tube amps, and also cars and other stuff - but please, plastic (and chipboard, MDF, teflon, plaster etc) can't hold a candle to steel, brass, copper, chrome, glass, wood, veneer and stone. Edit: I forgot leather here, and my grandma's bicycle had handlebar grips made out of cow's horns.

To be totally fair: I have ran across 'import' chassis that were appearingly built w/ at least seemingly-decent materials. Not everyone can get their hands on original kit, but still want the look (and feel, if possible).

My peeve with most 'nostalgic' tech (as you were concerned about/to your point) is that it's built like utter crap:
Immediately, those 'nostalgia' appliances sold @ the likes of Kohl's, Fred Meyer, Sears, JCPenny, etc. come to mind. Especially with how simple a toaster or hot dog cooker is, it almost seems like they went out of their way to cheapen the products below any usability/longevity. That, *is* infuriating.

Regardless, I couldn't agree more with the bolded part. Especially, outside of consumer-electronics.
ex: those 60s-70s 'pistol-style' Geiger Counters and Survey Meters are very attractive in style and construction, aside their potential utility.

I belive the fan was in the bottom, but a bladeless fan is possible using electrostatics.
