Recent reviews showed that 3080 is reduced to a mere 2080 Ti or a 6700 XT using max details even on this resolution. what a shameful display by Nvidia.
lol what? doubt. A 3080 didn't just magically lose 30% of it's performance overnight, unless of course you are talking outlier situations designed to massively over saturate the framebuffer, or one of the recent garbage spec PC ports/AMD sponsored games, one of which people can get a refund for regardless of playtime.
186W is great news.
It's very good, in stock form a 3080 will be bouncing right off it's power limit constantly of 320w, this packs a couple gigs extra and the same-ish performance while pulling 186w, almost half the power (58%) for the same performance. I think it'll lose some steam at 4k but clearly is aimed at 1440p or below. As per usual, the bad news is the price.

I think the best way to describe this gpu assuming it's within 10% of the msrp is it's ok not good not bad.

$800 for a gimped product is already inflated bruh.
He said he thinks Nvidia will inflate the price from the MSRP and asked him how.

He's insinuating that retailers will inflate pricing but afaik there will be an FE model and at least on the outside nvidia seems to want to hit the 599 usd price point not that 600 usd is all that good to begin with. I'm not sure this would sell for much more than msrp to begin with.

The RTX 4080 is selling below MSRP in the US and the 4070 Ti is selling at MSRP in the US.

Also in EU. But it's still way overpriced, and the EU msrp was a JOKE to begin with.
Whether someone considers those card overpriced or not fact of the matter is they aren't priced above MSRP.

If you actually check that link you posted almost none of those are in stock.

Point is Nvidia did the "this is the MSRP but AIBs are free to come out with more expensive SKUs" thing with the 4070ti and of course most of the cards available weren't at MSRP, they're gonna do the same with this one as well.

Also in EU.
Depend where I guess, they're still over MSRP where I live.

Two way overpriced products trying to be sold as a last ditch effort by retailers near msrp I'm so shocked.

$1189 for a crappy ventus model on an already crappy priced gpu so tempting.

Hasn't it been like 3 years you've been wanting to buy a gpu? You ever going to buy anything? Keep drinking that green coolaid maybe they'll eventual release somthing you can buy.

Many of them still are, and let me reiterate that EU msrp was a total ripoff (1400€).

Even at 800 usd it's a bad deal so I'm not sure how them being at msrp when nvidia is already scalping us really matters.

Sure if 800 is the most you can spend and you don't like the 7900XT for whatever reason you don't really have a choice otherwise it's the most meh nvidia gpu in a long a$$ time.

Yes, which is why it's strange they'd lie about it in their own material. There is no way the "Average power consumption" for both of this cards is what they say it is, every card out there will just ran at it's power limit constantly unless the framerate is capped or the game is heavily CPU bound.
Nah, many games are voltage limited on Lovelace long before they're being power limited. It's different from Ampere & RDNA3 who hit the power limit very easily. My 3080 could hit 350W at <900mv for example.

There's tons of variability on it though. Some games my 4090 draws 350W at 100% while others it's 420W. It's actually not easy to hit the power limit on a stock 4090 in games. 185W average for a 200W GPU seems pretty normal.

A review that actually tests multiple games:

Seems very much in line with what Nvidia claimed.

Frequency and voltages automatically go down as the GPU approaches it's power limit, as such it becomes voltage limited because there is no more headroom at those frequency steps, this happens on pretty much every GPU. If you look at TPU's power figures practically all GPUs run at exactly their power limit.

It's actually not easy to hit the power limit on a stock 4090 in games.

Because that card is fast enough for games to become CPU limited in a lot more scenarios, a card like the 4070 will almost certainly be power limited 100% of the time.

idk in a most games the usage is pegged at 100% for me on the gpu but it still varies quite a bit on my 4090 how much power that actually means. I've actually never seen it above 420w in any actual gaming scenario unless I unlock it to 600w then it sits around 100w higher in that scenario but only if i manually oc both the core and memory by a ton around 200 core 1500 mem overclock in the speedway bench will do it for example.

Because 100% utilization does not actually mean the GPU is fully utilized. For instance whether you have ray tracing on or not it can still report 100% utilization even though obviously not all of the hardware is in use.

Under heavy rt loads it actually reports lower power consumption.

Oddly the only time I can even get it to 420w is in cyberpunk/Witcher NG using frame generation with all the settings maxed out.

I haven't been paying close attention to it lately though the card runs cool and quiet even when set to 600w as it is compared to my ampere card it replaced anyways.

Also and every 4090 owner likely knows this if you're willing to sacrifice 5% ish of the performance you can drop it to around 320-340w pretty easily.

It's not really fan boy stuff though. The reality is that most people just buy nvidia regardless and then cheer on AMD in the idiotic hope that it leads to cheaper nvidia which just isn't going to happen.
Guess AMD shouldnt have been holding back supply to keep prices high. Darn shame, gonna have to break out my violin for this one.

Impressive? A card that is supposedly faster than 3070Ti at about two thirds the power draw? Neah, AMD routinely beats that with every generation :wtf:

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
The 4070 is shaping up to be not horrible.

12GB VRAM isn't too little. It's the minimum acceptable amount, but it is at least acceptable.

Sub 200W is also fine. Good, even.

The $599 price point is too much given that just five short years ago the 1070 was $379. I'm not sure inflation and manufacturing costs have risen by 60% in that time, but at least in the current market, $599 isn't awful. That says more about how bad the market is than the good price of the 4070 but I think the last five years have all been pretty rubbish with minimal performance/$ improvements from Nvidia since Pascal.

At the very least, I'm looking forward to some decent products in the midrange. If the price rumours of the 4070 being $749 were wrong, perhaps the horror-show that is an 8GB 4060Ti will also be wrong. $300 was is too much for an 8GB card in 2022. In 2023, 8GB is absolutely too little VRAM for whatever Nvidia intend to increase the 3060 Ti's $399 price by. Presumably another 20% like the rest of the Ada lineup so far - which means a $479 4060Ti, perhaps. All it would take for AMD to do then would be to provide 12GB on their sub-$500 for some very easy wins in benchmarks. I don't like it, but that's how it's been this year so far.

tbh I don't see how Nvidea can sell this card for $600 without seriously gutting the sales of the 4070 Ti. $700 is what I figured this card to go for.

I don't see gamers purchasing a 6800 if they can get a 4070 for the same price if those cards are similar in benchmarks. I'm thinking 150 FPS average at 1440P.

RX 6800 can be had for around $500 on Amazon in the US so it's going to be cheaper. It also has more VRAM, which is important given games are already using more than the 4070 Ti's 12GB frame buffer.

This is of course before we see what AMD's lower end next gen cards have in store.

Mind you I don't see gamers being impressed with any options on the market right now, let alone Nvidia's super cutdown $600 4070 with barely enough VRAM. Nvidia isn't trying to impress you, they are trying to pick your pocket and gamers shouldn't buy unless they are getting a 4090 or have a gun held to their head.

12GB is a repeat of the 3070. The card could just barely fit new AAA games in it's VRAM buffer at the time but not even 2 years later we are already seeing the card having to drop settings and stuttering issues. The same is likely to happen to the 4070 / 4070 Ti. This kind of price for a cards that will last less than 2 years is not what I'd call acceptable and it'll kill PC gaming as the vast majority of people cannot afford to drop that kind of money on just their GPU less than every 2 years.
