What's your latest tech purchase?

My grandson's Nintendo GBA-SP's battery desided to die. Luckily, it didn't burst or catch fire. But good grief did it bulge!

The battery cover literally popped open when I unscrewed it. Yeah, kinda scary. At that is an official Nintendo battery. Granted, it's the original, so 20ish years isn't bad for battery life. However, technology/chemistry moves forward, and they can now pack 2000mAh into the same space they made a 600mAh batteries 20 years ago. He's happy again!
To be fair that knock off will probably look the same after 2 years.

My brother works for Samsung and he managed to get me this beautiful Samsung G8 OLED monitor:

Just be very careful when cleaning. Based on refurbs sold in some stores coating on these qd-oleds is very prone to scratching.

That's the problem with proprietary parts companies refuse to sell, knockoffs are the only option if they prevent legal alternatives

I got myself a 3070 8GB for $400 Au

66c at full load with stock settings, this seems to be the limit for Ampere GPU's before they start going insane on wattages - and it shows. Quiet and low heat.

Fit nicely in Lil' Red

When finished, this will have the 3070 and 5800x as a low wattage portable gamer, primarily for wired VR but also HTPC/LAN use.

Typically packaged in a bag of all things, not even a padded envelope...Amazon of course. Sigh. I feel like the Rodney Dangerfield of customers at this point!

Last HDD I bought arrived in one of those unpadded plastic sheaths 4x the size of box it contained. Delivery description: Unfurled as a sail when it was cast in front of my door from 15' away.

I was inspired to recount this by your chosen nickname "maxfly"

On my gigabyte 4090 the only thing I liked was the backplate lol... Aesthetically.

No, I've bought this brand of battery before. They're of good quality. The previous battery from them is 4 years old and still going strong. Not worried about it or I would not have put it in my grandson's GBA-SP. The last thing I want is him catching fire from his very favorite plaything.

So one of the old hdd reused from my old pc in my current dual system finnally deside to show signs of its time to go to hardware heaven after 12 years of trust worthy duty.

So the storage needy me, is adding this wd red pro 16 TB hdd to storage all my dirty files... Ups:fear: I mean to storage all my innocent files in a growing storage need.

I keep getting adverts for this and contemplating buying one. Please let me know how it works.
Not much to say about it....Choose a nozzle for the job and just push the button with your thumb, up is speed 1 , pressing down is speed 2, easy , it moves a lot of air and gets the job done.
For now only tested on laptop and the dust filters of my main rig with the brush nozzle.

However there are also other ones with stepless speeds and/or with battery too, there are a lot to choose from on amazon for example.

Struggled with Nvidia cards and returned as I do not want to replace my case and got this today. Always used to be a team red until I had my pair of 5870's so gone back with them

The Viper Ultimate arrived! Three things immediately stood out:
1 - How light it is;
2 - How hard it is to connect the dock's Micro-USB;
3 - How fancy the dock's lightning looks (real nice alongside my Huntsman Elite).

Decided to join the Kickstarter for Elegoo's new "Phecda" 20W diode laser cutter.

For a mid-range card, i'm very happy with how it works. It truly makes me think ampere should have been that level of performance and wattage, not the 375-450W range of my 3090 for what often amounts to barely any real world performance change.
(When game engines themselves stutter, or any other bottleneck exists - you wouldnt notice)

Camping trip planned but delayed due to weather, I decided to go amateur hour on a mini solar setup

Part 1: "Battery box"

Can take a car battery or a bunch of UPS batteries, i've got a 7.2ah UPS battery in there (tiny vs the box)
The box has 2x USB ports out, and a 12v accessory outlet.
It's very overkill, i mostly got it because i couldnt buy a damn 12v accessory socket at the store and this was on sale

Part 2:
This *VERY* high wattage solar panel. Doesn't require a controller, is the main key to doing this on the cheap. Seems to charge the battery to around 13v (hardly the 14.4v max they're rated for)
1681376960849.png

Step 3:
Hacked telstra DJA2030 with a backup SIM card that just never deactivated, giving me a 25/5 LTE connection anywhere i go.

With a USB-C PD to 12V cable.
1681377075396.png

These routers are notable because they're *massively* over-specced with 1GB of RAM, AC2200 and SMA sockets to boost the LTE connection
(users kept trying to put wifi aerials on them, so it was removed in future models and the RAM cut down to ~384MB in gen 2)
Which Yknow, i of course have simply added inside my car so this works while driving.
1681377339961.png

For an unlimited usage, solar powered 25Mb internet connection that travels with me that has coverage in everywhere that matters in Straya
No one pays for this, the SIM just never got deactivated when the previous user left the company. Gotta love free internet.

XT and love it. I have a freesync monitor as well
I finally found why nvidia and AMD behave weirdly different on the same display

AMD dont double frames (30FPS to 60Hz) unless a 2.5x range is available, while Nvidia will always double or triple if it fits into the range
That results in weirder behaviour on nvidia like the flickering on VA panels since you could end up with some wild swings on some panels that never expected such behaviour

On AMD my display wouldnt have LFC, since the default range is 40-60, on nvidia i've been forced to cap it at 55-65 to reduce flickering (but i get that 10Hz range which does help make things look smoother, and those 30FPS scenes in games like BL run at 60Hz)

SAMSUNG U32J592UQU

it's EU version of :

SAMSUNG U32J590UQU

Why ?.. my VA AOC 240hz 27" died, one day after Amazon return time finished, oh well, they gave my money back anyway, then, before getting the OLED 240hz, i take that one that's good enough for WII PS2 emulated games and movies.

I just pulled the trigger on an Asus RTX 4070 Ti TUF 12gb. I need to upgrade my daughters GPU so I'm giving her my 3070.. hehe
