AYANEO hosted a product showcase stream on their YouTube channel which went deep into the technical details of their upcoming AYANEO 2S refresh to last year's AYANEO 2. The new handheld console features some major improvements under the hood which include AMD's Ryzen 7 7840U with Radeon 780M graphics, LPDDR5X-7500 and a cooling system redesign. The Ryzen 7 7840U is similar to the recently announced Ryzen Z1 Extreme that the ASUS ROG Ally can be equipped with, both SoCs bringing 8 "Zen 4" cores and a 12CU RDNA3 graphics engine down to a TDP of 15 W. The cooling system for this SoC has been upgraded to a triple heatpipe array soldered to a copper heatspreader which AYANEO is dubbing their "3+1" cooling design. They claim the new design drops SoC load temperatures by as much as 11.6C, and that it has 33% more surface area compared to the previous generation AYANEO 2. AYANEO also claims optimizations to the fit and finish with the body and trigger assemblies being improved to better fit the hand as well as aid in ease of disassembly. Other specifications have remained mostly unchanged such as the 7-inch 1920x1200 IPS display, 16 GB RAM, and 512 GB base configuration SSD.

The updated motherboard will fit the existing AYANEO 2 chassis as well, and will be available via a new upgrade service offered to current AYANEO 2 owners. Pricing is still yet to be announced for both the upgrade service and the new console, but the AYANEO 2 currently lists for $1,099 - $1,499 so perhaps the 2S will replace it at those price points. The AYANEO 2S will initially launch with three color options: "Starry Black", "Sky White", and a limited edition "Retro Power" scheme and is expected to go on pre-order in May, with first unit deliveries some time in June.

1080p is useless or such APU, no need for it. 720 or 800p are the sweetspot for those IGP.

all that money and still no OLED.

still extremely happy with my Steam Deck only costing $360. I am about to beat Dishonored on my Deck and it has been a 10/10 experience. best $360 I spent in a long time.

apparently the Steam Deck's IPS screen also has PWM flickering. :( it doesn't seem to bother me any though, I have played mine a lot.

Benches in laptops with the 7940HS show it to be pretty capable at 1080p, though that's with a larger power budget

Does the Z1 Extreme outperform the 7840? Also if leaked pricing is correct and the ROg ally is indeed $699 with the z1 extreme, wouldn’t a $1099 Aya Neo be DoA ?

Once you go oled you can’t go back to regular lcd. Lg c2/c3 Samsung s95b//95c are beautiful TVs. I can’t go back to any display that doesn’t have true blacks it’s just not the same.

Well the Aya Neo has hall effect joysticks and different colors, so somebody that is looking for a fancy color and improved hall effect joysticks probably will get an Aya Neo instead.

AYANEO tend to be expensive, I think they ought to work on their pricing, maybe cut some corners like unnecessary lighting... Etc

Plenty of games will play perfectly at 1080p. I see these same ignorant comments everywhere lol. You can try to play Jedi Survivor, or you can play Mass Effect 2. Not all games have the same resolution target.

Yeah they will run, but how long ? It's a portable device so 1080p display can be out of place depending on the game, if the device can run cooler, quieter and longer, that's a win.

I don't think 720p is doable as a marketing figure in 2023, when many people have QHD or higher res smartphones.
1080p with upscaling will look at least as good as native 720p anyway.

Edit: putting it in bold for better understanding

I'm used to playing much more demanding games on my 75" QLED Gsync TV and 100" 1080p projector screen (with most games supporting 4K resolution downsampled (or DLSS quality) to 1080p .... as long as there's enough AA to eliminate all or most aliasing, the lower resolutions are fine. The 800P screen on my Steam Deck is perfect if there's 4x MSAA. I don't ever wish the Steam Deck was higher resolution while playing. On these small screens, 720p is perfectly fine in 2023.

never, upscaling looks like garbage in lower resolution

ure wrong, i hate OLED cause the most of them have PWM dimming with 500Hz an lower, those displays hurt my eyes with eyestrain.

IPS without PWM ROCKSSS :nutkick:
