Hackboard today announced the launch of Hackboard 2, an affordable single-board computer (SBC) about the size of a smartphone but with the power of a desktop computer and one of the lowest-priced Intel-powered and Windows-based single-board computers ever made. It's ideal for Makers and Hobbyists, IoT, Edge Computing, and Embedded Solutions with customizable Hackboards, contact Support@Hackboard.com for more info. Soon, Hackboard will ship Personal Computer Kits, ideal for work-from-home users, remote learners and the classroom.

The Hackboard 2 allows users to create their ideal computing environment at an affordable price, while taking advantage of the benefits of industry standard technology. With optional 4G or 5G modules, users can connect to the internet from almost anywhere. Users can plug the system into nearly any monitor with an HDMI input, including their TV.

The Hackboard 2 is available for order today at these Resellers: RS Components, OKdo, Micro Center, Mouser, CrowdSupply, and Vilros,

"The Hackboard 2 is designed to address the increasing worldwide challenge of the Digital Divide and the needs of education," said Mike Callow, Hackboard co-founder and CEO. "With the shift to increased remote working and learning there is a growing need for affordable, powerful computers connecting users to the internet and each other. Our mission is to help solve this growing challenge."

Ideal for education, from the classroom to the remote learner
With the significant increase in remote learning, students and schools need access to affordable, high-quality, versatile products with outstanding connectivity that integrate smoothly into the classroom. I feel like not mentioning the SoC after mentioning it runs an Intel chip is a massive red flag.
After checking the tech specs it appears this is running an N4020.

A well over 3 year old dual-core with a TDP of 5W.

Imo this is a bit pointless, just buy a RPI.
Just being able to run Window natively is not a major advantage considering it's purpose.

Its expensive. There are no RJ45 ports, only wireless LAN. I/O all based on USB. This thing should be POE powerable.

What us the purpose of this thing?

There are appear to be several issues like that. See the FAN connector bottom left for example.

Apparently it's for educational use.

i see a lot of red flags:
NO pricing mentioned in the article AT ALL, not even a qualitative comment about it.
NO tech specs or barely any
NOT EVEN a link to their store/website.
their website has errors all over, the ones mentioned before and stuff like:
"a) Delivers speeds up to 1.73Mbps Dual Mode" on the wifi-AC, wow, it deliver almost TWO MEGABITS, eat your heart out 56K modem!, early 2000's here we go!

Sure enough i google for it, 174usd?!?!, yeah... haha.. no, i'd rather buy TWO pi400 for that price, you could even buy two rpi4 even at their current inflated price, for more performance and less footprint.

This thing should have not been more than 90USD for me to consider it

 ridiculous, you can get BeeLink mini (or something similar) with N100, 16GB, 512SSD, MUCH better ports, case and power supply for that price.

Does posting adverts count as journalism now?
If you haven't noticed until now, we do post press releases. They are clearly marked as such.

Same thing with screen, keyboard, touchpad, webcam and battery (so it qualifies as a lowest-end notebook) costs 183 € including German VAT.

A bit of context is important: this was a crowdsourced kickstarter type of thing product. If it launched when it was supposed to in early 2021 it wouldn't be as bad (wtf no ethernet!? come on...) but as it is right now it's a complete waste of money.

It's a "at least they eventually shipped something" type of situation.

just buy a RPI

If only they were available :(
