So it's amazing what you find when having a good clean out.

My dad passed away just over a year ago so i am helping my mother clean out loads of old stuff.
As we are going through many things i came across my old super nintendo that i thought had been thrown away 20 years ago.
I also found mario paint and the mouse to go with it and mario is missing :)

Also found a sega master system pad and a copy of sonic 2 for it so might be a master system console somewere to.

I plan to give things a good clean and maybe retrobright the snes.

oh man I had one of those turbo touch d-pad style controllers but it was for the Sega Genesis! they were def a product of the time period. quite glad that tech didn't stick in game controllers because it was awkward to use lol

Nice find. It just reminds me how ugly the US versions was with it's angular look. A little cleaning and some ozone will have it looking new again.

When my dad died I found some treasures too, but I lost them. I had saved several old IBM's and my parents stored them for a long time. I had no way to store them myself and most of them ended up in the trash. I tried to save an Apple IIe Platinum and an IBM PCjr, becasue they were the oldest. The jr had all the extra accessories, and the Apple was mint. Both had all the original boxes and all the documentation. A relative, who was trying to help, threw away the PCjr as soon as I turned my back, and it never made it onto the truck it was supposed to be loaded on. I sold the Apple to a collector in Germany.

I hope you can keep your SNES and enjoy it or give it to somebody who will appreciate and preserve it. It would be a shame for it to be forgotten again.

There were two basic hardware versions. This appears to be the Europe/Japan version with the "Famicom" external panels.

Americans are accustomed to the Super NES console designed for the US market which was sadly far uglier than this design.

Nintendo has not always released the same physical design in all of its markets. This is all stuff covered in the Nintendo fan sites.

In fact, this has happened with some amount of regularity in consumer electronics as a whole.

The first Sony Walkman was a blue metal-clad, sleek unit in Japan. The first US model was a bulky clunker clad in silver-toned plastic. That's just another example.

The European SNES was basically a PAL version of the Japanese Super Famicom, the cartridge's format is also the same as the one used in the Japanese model. Always wanted to own one of those, and I still look for one in good condition every now and then. They're hard to come by. This one in the picture is the Japanese model with a cartridge of "Super Mario Collection" (known in the West as All-Stars) inserted:

Let us know how it turns out after it's refurbished and had the retrobrite procedure done. If it's working well (and I don't see why it wouldn't), you should see if you can grab an SD2SNES for it. It will still provide you tons of fun, and hopefully someday your kids too, mate. Cheers!

Sonic is for the Sega Master System for sure, I recognize the cart and controller. Had one once, Genesis controllers also work on the console.
