So, what you're telling me, almost 3 years since 3070 was launched, we get a 3070 with 16GB of VRAM and DLSS3?
The 4060ti is probably more like a 3080.

$100 extra for 8GB more?

You can buy entire 8GB GPUs for $99 $60

It's a freemarket and NVIDIA have apparently left the door wide open, lets see if AMD walk through it.

We'll be waiting 3+ months as the upcoming RX 7600, rumoured at $299-329 doesn't directly compete with the 4060Ti.

If it's anywhere close in performance then I guess we can agree that AMD walked through that wide open door.

I think it is good that Nvidia kept the price of 399, I.e. same as the RTX 3060 Ti. But this 8GB version will not be what gamers will want since almost all AAA titles demands more than 8GB this year. The 16GB version at 499 is very bad value because this sits on the MSRP of the RTX 3070 which is a more capable card with its specs. Eventually, I think the RX 6800 may be a better deal. One can argue that there is no DLSS and weak RT performance. However RT will run very badly on the 4060 Ti to begin with, and while DLSS 3.0 is there to boost FPS, the frame generation cannot mitigate the high latency due to low native FPS.

I don't think older, used GPU's with incompatible memory modules are really a valid comparison point here.

An RX 570 with 24GB would be future proof!!!1

Fine. The 5500XT isn't much more expensive and that's an 8GB GDDR6 card. I sell those for about £100 when I stumble across one during refurb.

85% of the people answering the poll a couple of a weeks back would pay no more than $50

Yeah but that was assuming a 450 usd baseline meaning most people responding would pay 500 for a decent new gen gpu with 16GB of Vram. I think it's too expensive but some might not.

$500 is indeed too expensive for a card that "trades blows with the 3070"

A 6700XT trades blows with a 3070 and has enough VRAM. Newegg are selling those brand new for $319 but you can find them on ebay for $275 easily and $250 if you're patient.

Edit:
Hmm, looks like the market value of 3070's is tanking, almost nobody is successfully selling a working one for over $300:

1684373513031.png

Typically used GPUs have held ~80-90% the value of the same new GPU for the last 3-4 generations, so if a 4060Ti is winning/losing against a 3070 depending on resolution, and the used value is ~$285, then that puts the market value of a new 3070-equivalent card with 8GB at $285/0.85 roughly, or $330.

A $299 RX 7600 sure is going to be interesting if it's up against a $399 4060Ti, since I think the 7600 is going to be faster than a 3060Ti based on leaks. One week to go until review NDAs lift...

There are unfortunately a lot of people who wouldn't touch an amd gpu regardless of how cheap they are.

IKR?

It's crazy because most games are built for RDNA2 in the consoles first and foremost with PC ports added as a sloppy afterthought of a port and riddled with dumb technical issues,

Even if the headcount of console gamers vs PC gamers is somewhat similar, the revenue reports from Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft clearly show that console gamers spend more on games, and are the more valuable customer.

I thought I was right about my guess back in April, then I looked at the title....I underestimated the Nvidia greed

The 4060ti is probably more like a 3080.
I think this card performance wise is going to be closer to a 3060Ti then it is the 4070/4080.

Pretty embarrassing when the 3060Ti if I remember correctly was slightly faster than the previous gens xx80 card

Good point. The 3070 was about 15% faster than the 3060 Ti. Most of the rumors based on the chipset leaks is the 4060 Ti only being best case scenario like 15-25% faster than the 3060 Ti so "trading blows with the 3070 for $500" is very realistic scenario. :(

It was actually slightly faster than the 2080 super or similar.

Still not the same memory rating, and the cards are used. The poll is valid in context, but relative to the market, and extremely small sample size of tech enthusiasts, it won't necessarily be broadly indicative of what average joe's will actually pay for these products.

Don't get me wrong, I think $100 more is too much on a card / bus too weak to make optimal use of it, but I can see why they made the choice (if true) to price as such. Lets just hope the masses keep voting with their wallets like they have for pretty much everything but the 4090.
