Truthear partners with IEM influencer Crinacle once more to bring out a new take on its succesful dual DD ZERO in-ear monitors. The new ZERO:RED re-works the drivers to present a completely different sound while retaining an impactful bass, clean mids, and a smooth treble response while still being budget-friendly.

I've got the Zero (non-red), phenomenal earbuds even before you consider the price. They're not "good for their money" - they're just GOOD. My other noteworthy headphones are/were Hifiman HE-400 (the original version, not the cheaper i, S or X), Sennheiser HD800 and Dunu DN1000.

The fir and comfort of the zeros were biggest problem for me. But any changes at this point will also lead to higher costs so it's understandable they didn't change it.
Do you have any plans of reviewing the KZ HBB PR2? That seems a strong or even better option compared to this.

Not sure, I haven't been approached by Linsoul for coverage of the PR2 and I want to get my backlog under control before I go out and ask for more samples at this stage.

I'm on my second set of PR2 after issues with my first...

Going to be buying the red soon. I enjoy the zero, fortunately I found fit to not be a issue for me.

that nozzle would definitely make it a nonstarter for me. the only thing that gives me a good fit on my left ear is small foam tips.

Considering the driver was updated, how big is the difference in technicalities? Like if I have the zero and I eq it to the zero:red, how close in sound would I get?

Close enough to not merit another purchase. The biggest difference is with tonality, with a slightly improved distortion profile across the board.

Just want to add that I'm picking Zero over HD800. In fact, I recently sold the HD800 after having them for many years (but not listening too much - I think they're pretty average headphones at best, and defenitely WAY overpriced).

One thing about the Zero is that a sub-par amplifier (like that in my laptop) will make them sound too bass-heavy (which may be a plus for some, but it's not the correct sound). No such problem with any half-decent amp (like my current Topping DX1). As for the RED version, its impedance is increased by almost 2x so maybe this effect will not be as pronounced (it's not about impedance per se, it comes from impedance varying with frequency, as far as I understand).

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
Is this some sort of joke I'm not getting?
probably the fact that IEM wires goes behind the ears for countering microphonics...

which is a good thing ... nonetheless

or maybe the sleeving looking like a shoelace ... (which, imho, they do not...)

(i am ashamed but everytime i read "influencer" in a review or anywhere i go: "pah! they do not exist ... no one influence me, that "job" should not exist!" ... your reviews influence me more than they would ever do! ... now i am conflicted ... are you an "influencereviewer" (tm) ... let's say, that line of thought come from the ammount of useless one in the "influencer" "job" )

The entire review is about this man! That set is the original Truthear ZERO.

I usually only read to pros and cons sections of reviews, but I just got around to reading it, thanks for the info. interesting that the first iteration has 4.5 star reviews on Amazon, yet they still felt the need to improve it, that is good quality indeed

I have the 'Blue' Truthear Zero and like it very much. Hearing that the 'Red' was going to cost only $5 more than the Blue, my first thought was to question the wisdom of Truthear's marketing strategy. Sure, the Red is selling well, but how much is it cutting into continued sales of the Blue?

does your Blue block out outside noise well, like lets say someone is mowing the lawn, would it dampen that sound a decent amount? im leaning towards ANC for my next inner ears, sound dampening is probably most important thing to me.

I'm not sure I can give you a satisfactory answer. The Truthear Zero Blue stock eartips fit my ear canals snuggly and comfortably, but don't shut out loud noises. I'd rate the sound isolation a little better than other IEMs I've tried. To shut out lawn mower sounds I think you'd be better off with ANC.

9 months in the IEM world is a long time, most sales happen in the first 2-3 months before something else comes up that could be better. I don't think there will be much cannibalization of sales going on, especially since the two sound different enough.
