Konami also announced a Metal Gear Solid retro collection, titled the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. This will feature the first three Metal Gear Solid games - Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (HD Collection version) and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. These will launch this autumn.
HD collection is coming this autumn. Not the remake.

My guess is 2024 for the remake, as it would mark the 20th anniversary of the game being released.

To be fair AAA gaming has been pretty embarrassing the last 5 or 6 years so it shouldn't be shocking people would rather play a remake. Much higher success rate if where being honest

I know you're speaking broadly and there are a lot of remakes out there, but in this case it's a little different.
MGS III has never officially been on PC and MGS I-III haven't had any remakes except for Nintendo Game Cube (MGS II: Twin Snakes) and 3Ds (MGS III: Snake Eater).

Lots of expansions and collector's stuff on PS, but not remakes - PS3 did get the HD Collection but it was just a remaster.
PC got the original MGS I (+expansion) and II (barely worked). Other than that, just emulators.

Kojima is also no longer with Konami, so that probably drove things.
Either way though I'll be happy to have it so long as it is done well (haven't played since ~2006 on PS2, but nostalgia be damned if it's crap).

It was also released on Xbox 360 and had PSN downloads for each game on it individually also, but not sure if there were Xbox live versions for individual downloads

Never played any Metal Gear games, looking forward to this remake
I bought a N64 as a teen after my cousin got a PS1. So I got to play them but only bits and pieces when I was at his home, and those little bits are the reason why I almost regretted my decision for getting the different console lol. There is a reason why the original trilogy were all greatest hit best sellers. MGS 1, 2, and 3 have to be in the top 10 stealth games ever in my opinion.

These games are FULL of story. So even though MGS3 is canonically the first in the story, it would actually make more sense to play 1 and 2 first., in my opinion. Yea, it's one of those franchises....for sequence reference this shows where each game ends up in a timeline. Release order and canonical order are all over the damn place

All it takes is a pre-rendered announcement trailer eh?

How quickly we forget that this is Kojima-less Konami we're talking about. I will be highly skeptical of this remake's quality right up to it's release date.

And this is coming from a superfan who watched and re-watched the MGS2 tanker trailer in grade school with his friends... who he plays MGS5 multiplayer with to this day.

I see what you're saying this could be a total flop without him. Although I am still more hyped for this over Death Stranding 2.

Just recently purchased Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid on GOG, lol. Really great I can get them now on STEAM. And according to the PlayStation store there are even 5 games included:

METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 1:
  • Metal Gear
  • Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
  • Metal Gear Solid (Including VR Missions/Special Missions)
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (HD Collection version)
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (HD Collection version)
Makes me wonder what will be in the collection "METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 2" included? I guess for sure "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots" & "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker". "Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes/The Phantom Pain" however isn't really that old for a remaster, and it's still available everywhere. Maybe some of their spinoffs, but most of them are mobile trash, so I don't see it. Maybe a documentary, concept art, trailers, etc.

On top of that there where also collections released exclusively for Japan or only for EU/NA, so let's hope they don't pull the same nonsense off again and bring it this time worldwide.

Hideo Kojima not beeing part of the project could be a problem if we're talking about a new game. But this is just a remastered collection, so "theoretically" the chances to mess is up are quite limited. ;) On that not I just went through his wikipedia page and stumbled over something super hilarious: Misrepresentation in the assassination of Shinzo Abe. "Kojima was misidentified in July 2022 as the assassin of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe by some news outlets and politicians." Holy crap, that's next level incompetence!

Yeah I was only ever a PC person, so never got to enjoy these. I think there is one on STEAM #5 IIRC, but for some reason never jumped on it. But definitely keen to see how this remake goes. Please don't suck PC port.

There where in total 8 Metal Gear games released on PC. :) Of which one isn't released yet ("METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER"), one is unavailable ("METAL GEAR SOLID 2 SUBSTANCE"), one is kinda trash ("METAL GEAR SURVIVE"), one is really good but not the traditional stealth experience ("METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE") and 2 are only available at GOG.

I would snag them up as long they are available. Just look at the key shop prices, dirt cheap. And the other 2 at GOG go on sale regularly. I got both MGS5 games for around 3 bucks, felt like I robbed someone.
