oh interesting 13.5% is huge, there was another article before mentioning that 7900xtx can get close to a 4090 with some decent overclock
i wonder why amd held back

Cause it would likely draw around 600w to trade punches with the 4090

It was very conservative in the first place. So... whatever.

Higher power draw, but the card probably can do least 20% more performance still more or less cos AMD has a driver fix in place for persistent issue they struggled 6-12 month with to fix probably, its probably why the 7900 series are much slower then they hoped for, nextgen could potentially be faster then rtx 50 series if AMD can manage to pull off their expectations, if Nvidia decides to keep slacking off and release small performance upgrades again in 2-3 years.

For the Aqua so I imagine they adjusted power and boost levels to use the extra cooling.

I really am wondering what the difference could be. I've already gone to 700W+ with the EVC and yeah 20-30% performance improvement depending on what the default clocks were for a given game, but what could they have changed besides power limit in the new BIOS? Guess I might have to FAFO

This was the case with the 6950XT as well. The stock boost clocks on that thing are ridiculously conservative. 2310MHz? Please...

Granted, I have the asrock oc formula variant on a full coverage block, but so far it's been 24/7 stable in anything at 2750MHz core and 2400MHz mem. In certain titles I can even coax it into 2850MHz. It absolutely sucks down power running like that though, averaging around 500W, but it absolutely smokes the 3090 in raster and often times bests the 3090Ti without even using MPT.

Genuine question, how many of you do multiple custom profiles for different use cases? I have an underclock/undervolt profile for just cruising youtube/discord/etc. and one where I blast the power limits for pulling max frames while gaming. I feel like people could be a lot happier with their cards if they set up profiles for the different scenarios they'd use them in.

I'm not sure I know what you're referencing... The settings reset if the radeon driver detects a crash? I've had the card for just about 6 months now and haven't had any issues with the 2750/2400 profile. If I try and push it much further it definitely gets dicey  I've found that the 6000 series drivers are pretty solid at this point, very rarely do I encounter a genuine bug that's not a result of me mucking around with the drivers too much.

Gpu driver crashes reset all your profiles bassicly yes stability is abselute trash sometimes everyone can crash gpu drivers for example on a 7900 XTX in sons of the forest.

Ahhh gotcha. Yeah unfortunately I can't speak for anything except my own experience which luckily has been pretty good considering AMD's driver notoriety. The one big bug I've been able to find with the 6000 series is when you turn on reflection MSAA in games using Rockstar's RAGE engine the stability goes to hell. Not sure why this is though, I've submitted bug reports but that's probably pretty small potatoes compared to some of the other stuff their driver team is dealing with right now.

Its such a common trend sometimes on r/AMDHelp my gpu drivers keep timing out in games etc its on a downward trend tho but it has been extremely bad in 2022

I am interested in flashing this bios on my Asrock 7900XTX Phantom that has a waterblock on it. I do have a CH341A Pro chip writer... I just need some help in locating the bios file and bios chip.

If you are willing to do that, you might as well just connect an EVC2 to adjust the current gain, unless we can do huge wattage on the new BIOS, then the XTX hardcore scene would really be in business.

It sounds like a 15% base power gain, then of course the 15% slider on top that, so a total 17.25% increase of what we have access to currently I think?

The 4090 is really not a "small performance upgrade" discounting all the DLSS3 frame generation marketing BS it still is a very good GPU, it's the price the pain point but the GPU itself is not a small leap or anything like that.

Since Navi10, the amd gpu driver suite is great for such use and I use it a lot. Most games don't need much power to hit 100FPS so I make a profile for them that use half the stock max power limit. I use the full GPU's power only for games that need it.

I own Aqua and have flashed the new bios.
The power limits has been raised with the new bios. Now it is 480W with new bios.
You can increase that by 15% more with the Radeon driver so that in total one can have 552W.
With EVC one has gone higher also without this bios as I have also done. :D
The only critic I have for ASRock that they dropped dual bios support in Aqua. :shadedshu:
It has only one bios soldered on the board.
Taichi which is basically the same card with fan cooling instead of liquid cooling comes with dual bios.
It would be advantageous to have dual bios so that one can have standard bios on one place and extreme on the other.

I provided a copy at HardwareLuxx here:
https://www.hardwareluxx.de/community/threads/amd-rdna-3-overclocking.1329030/post-29929267

A piece of warning it's not working if you flash it with the programmer.
Two persons who flashed it bricked the card.
I sent a message to @W1zzard and sent him this file to check if GPU-Z has problems to extract this new bios.

The way others did is first to flash original Asrock Aqua bios with programmer and than downloaded the windows flashing utility for the new bios from Asrock website and flashed the new bios with Asrock utility.
This way you you fool the Asrock utility to think you have Aqua card. :D

So just to make sure I understand correctly. The new BIOS is not working with the programmer, but the old one is? So you must flash the old bios with the programmer, then flash the new bios using Asrock's utility?

As a note, I would be preforming this on my Phantom which I have a full coverage waterblock coming in for.

So just to make sure I understand correctly. The new BIOS is not working with the programmer, but the old one is? So you must flash the old bios with the programmer, then flash the new bios using Asrock's utility?
Yes, first flash the original Aqua bios with programmer and after that use the windows flashing utility from Asrock website to update the bios to new Extreme Version.
That's what some of the member in the above linked Hardwareluxx forum did.
Follow exactly the instructions from Asrock for using the windows utility.
You will find the flashing guide on Asrock website.
Here is also link to that.

If you have question about that process you are welcome to visit us on Hardwareluxx and the members who already did this will help you.:)

It's German forum but members will also help in English.

Many of the top Time Spy score for 7900XTX are belonging to Hardwareluxx members especially the 40k one.;)

I got it working. My Asrock 7900XTX Phantom has the updated Aqua bios on it! Just waiting for my waterblock to get here to get it in and start playing.
