Hi,
I am trying to flash my Taichi that is the same board with Aqua, but i am not able to. ASRock utility gave me an error "ID not matched"
Also the Aqua BIOS (from here - https://asrock.com/Graphics-Card/AMD/Radeon RX 7900 XTX AQUA 24GB OC/#BIOS) is not available for download from Techpower up repository... so i cant extract .rom file i can try to force update...

Anyone any ideas how to flash that BIOS ?

Thanks!

Try there

How about giving us a GPU-Z Screenshot and then go to Advanced Tab and changing the word general to memory timings and posting a screenshot from there so we can maybe help

Go to AMD Bios and screenshot it, sometimes there is more info needed on cards

Ok PN 113-D70201-810008

And the good part is that this card has a dual bios switch for Quiet and Performance

Go back into GPU-Z and click the black arrow next to the uefi check box and attempt to upload the bios through GPU-Z to the VGA Bios Collection/Database. You may get a prompt stating the bios is already in the vga bios collection with a link to it, copy and paste it here. Do this for both the quiet and performance bios. This is for recovery if the Aqua Bios fails to flash correctly.

Hi, i've done that already. I have back-ups of my bios's. And i am all set.
My plan was to replace the "Quiet" bios with Extreme version from Aqua card - but i cant do it, due to ID mismatch...

Can you help me out with the correct tool?

p.s How you check the memory using the Ok PN 113-D70201-810008 or you just match it with the Aqua version?

My card is not on fans anymore, its liquid cooled. Game boost reaches 2850-80MHz, i would like to unlock the rest 150~MHZ. Thats all.

Normal aqua bios is not giving me anything above from what i have. (Actually its identical to my perf bios i have already)

CH341 bios prog. is it easy to modify it, or... too complex?

The CH341A a USB tool that you would need to attach to the chip on your card (which means you would have to disassemble the card) that would allow you to write directly to the bios chip.

You need to flash the normal Aqua bios first, which will allow you to update it to the extreme bios with Asrocks bios update utility.

I would not use any Intrusive ways to update my BIOS, i thought there is more user friendly or "legal" ways to do it..

Obviously things around the GPU BIOS's has changed dramatically for the last 15 years...

Well then you can’t put the Aqua bios on your card then. AMD has purposely limited bios flashing capabilities on their video cards starting with the 6000 series without using more “intrusive” methods.

So I grabbed the flash tool, but how come we can't use the Extreme BIOS? Also, new to flashing GPU BIOS this way - do I want my BIOS switch on my Taichi 7900XTX in a certain position?

We don’t know the specific reasons why, we just know the early adopters who have tried have bricked their cards.

You need to use the CH341 programmer to write the standard aqua bios, then use the update tool to update the standard bios to the extreme bios.

it doesn’t matter which position you overwrite on the bios switch, one is the power saving bios and the other is higher power.

Thank you so this afternoon I took the card apart and used the programmer I was able to detect the IC read everything I saved the stock bios and I was able to successfully erase and write the aqua default bios. Everything said successful. I had hooked up the flashing clip to the BIOS chip on the die side of the board. I am assuming that is the performance position chip because now when I boot with the BIOS switch in the performance position I get a white LED and error code 97. I am able to shut the system off and put the switch in the quiet position and boot up successfully. I did a driver ddu from within windows with it booted up in the quiet mode and of course that didn't do anything because this is more of a posting issue. Not sure what's up.

UPDATE: Sorted this out - someone on OCN had linked to the TechPowerUp link for the ASRock Aqua EXTREME BIOS - this is my desired end-state but apparently you cannot flash directly to it. I did not realize it was the extreme BIOS they linked to so I downloaded it and flashed the "Performance" switch BIOS to that which fails to POST. I re-setup the programmer and flashed the ASRock 7900 XTX Aqua Default BIOS to the Performance position chip and it worked. I booted up, uninstalled drivers, and installed the Extreme BIOS per the ASRock EXE file.

Thanks a lot for the update - i will not play with the programmer for now. I will wait probably 1-2years...and then will update for fun. Good to know at least the right steps to flash the 7900XTX Taichi : )

Does the aqua BIOS even have allow for higher power draw ? For all you know this could be a complete waste of time, if it's the same board I bet it has the exact same power limit.

Yes… the board doesn’t dictate the power limit, the vbios does. Also, they use the same pcb/board just slightly different vrms.
