The Cooling Engine

I assure you that you are not missing anything.
I have a Velocity 2 Direct-Die, a Magnitude, two more Velocity's and more, 90% marketing, 10% crap.
And the disgust they did with the direct-die version: a poorly made product, admittedly, but for which they expect users to complain, evidencing a dutiful recall campaign. It makes you realize what kind of company this is.
Get a Watercool an Alphacool an Iceman or whatever.
This is recommended by someone who has given away thousands of dollars to EKWB over the last few years, and every single time there has always been some problem.
Every time.

I have looked at the Alphacool Radiators and Watercool Radiators regarding the Alphacool GPU and CPU water blocks; according to the reviews are not as good as the EKWB via techpowerup. The (AlphaCool) parts are not worth the price for performance. And according to their techpowerup charts - AlphaCool is always lagging behind. What they are creating looks nice, but the performance is not there. Sure, we are talking about a few Celcius here and there, but if I get a few of there water blocks in my system. Now the temp has gone up just because they look nice.

At this point EKWB has performed for me hands down. I used other products and they do not add up. And the customer service at EKWB - hands down one of the best. I have asked all the questions anyone can ask. They never have an issue with responding with the information and the technical data to back it up.

Unfortunately, when there is an intermittent issue with a very small (comparatively) number of units, we do need people to contact us so that we can figure out what is causing the issue and to ensure we can work toward fixing it. This information is extremely valuable to work out what was incorrect.

We did a lot of testing in-house and outsourced and it was very difficult to replicate the issues other people were seeing. Once we saw there was an issue, we put the product OOS on the website to stop people from purchasing. The small percentage of people who were affected were sent replacement parts upon request however we did ask for more details than normal to try and track the issue exactly. A recall wouldn't have helped much as we could replicate the issue, and neither could many others we worked closely with. Kitguru had contact issues early on, but we fixed that too. It really was just a series of unfortunate events which required input from those that had the issues.

Oh and when I say a small number of units - compared to our normal products it WAS higher than our usual low RMA rate, which is why we knew something wasn't right and we did OOS things, however, it was far lower than it seems overall and it was mostly with the first batch.

Bought my Threadripper block from XSPC. Works like a charm....I'm not sure EK ever got around to making a Threadripper block that ever came close. I know their !st gen Threadripper block was a total waste of time and cooled worse than a lot of air coolers. I gave up on them when I bought an early AM4 waterblock when they first came out. Found out it didn't come with the AM4 hardware. I contacted EK and they told me it was indeed free, all I had to do was cover the $48 shipping from Europe. Microcenter did not have and could not get the update kit, despite selling EK products. Finally bought one from Performance PC's for $15. so much for free. Worst thing was I had to trim the mounting gasket to get it to work.. If left whole, it caused a no boot condition with the MB. Found out on Asus's support forums. Pretty much done with EK at that point.

At this point, I asked a lot of questions about other products. But if a few cases come out today, and I was in charge of building case - EKWB Pro products work for me.

Well perhaps that one did wind up working out...but that was their 4th or 5th try (or more) at a threadripper waterblock. I bought mine for a 1950x and is now running on my 3960x.
Here's a test which shows the 3rd gen EK along with the competition from Extreme Rigs. Only the 1st gen was available, and I don't think show it on this chart. The big problem is that the fin area was from their AM4 block,
they just made the base larger.

I recently got the EK-Quantum Velocity² on sale for AM4 and it seems to be working well.

It would be nice if EK had a model of Velocity² that was thicker to act as a small res and be able to mount a d5 to the top of it since EK has those nice pump tops now. Like a turbocharged AIO or the HEMI of waterblocks. Maybe an EK rep will see this and say hey that's a great idea!

Yes but much larger reservoir and through block mounting so it's not so PITA to mount. I feel like I need 3 hands to mount Velocity² without risking the block moving around too much after an excellent paste job.
