So picked out a PC for my folks and set it up the other day (HP w/ Win 11 Home) and the setup surprised me.
I know MS wants you to sign in, but I thought there were some simple work arounds same as when I setup 10 Pro.

Needless to say I wasn't quite prepared and wound up making an acct quick just to get them up and running.
Can I just sign them out after the fact, or is Windows going to throw a fit?

Still pissed I didn't think to look up command prompts, but that's what I get for being in a rush.

I noticed in the latest Optimum Tech video that he released on youtube today, that he manually disabled mouse acceleration in windows 11 on a clean install, I have never done this... I am wondering if I should???

You didn't know you could? I always did it.

If you're used to mouse accel it'll feel slow.

i can't tell much of a difference going back and forth, but my aiming does seem a little better with it off, so i think i will leave it off. i just tried it out in a couple of games.

Sadly no. The HP had integrated WiFi so I'd have needed to either disable in BIOS (not sure since pry locked) or disconnect the router.

Haven't installed the very latest W11 ISO. Historically removing any means of contacting the internet is key to avoiding basically every pitfall of a fresh copy. Pro or similar are also highly helpful in avoiding being penalized with this sort of feature, again historically.

Yeah I always install without plugging in ethernet on my PCs, just didn't even cross my mind w/ it being wifi and prebuilt/ready to go.

I'll have to see if I can sign out when I visit this wknd.
Rather not, but thinking I may need to just reinstall the OS again w the disc.

I could kill the router, but from some reading should be able to bypass the internet connection req and acct via command.

And there we have it. Re-partition, re-format and re-install making sure you are NOT connected to the internet.

I could kill the router, but from some reading should be able to bypass the internet connection req and acct via command.
When you get to the point were you are asked for an internet connection, Press & Hold the Shift key and press F10. A Command prompt will open. Type " OOBE\bypassnro " and press enter. Your system will quick restart and then you will be able to create a local account.

This was removed in Windows 11 22H2 including Pro. You cannot proceed without an internet connection and Microsoft account by default.

You need to press shift+F10 during initial setup (when you pick language) to bring up the command prompt and you type OOBE\BYPASSNRO, PC will restart and you will be greeted by the 21H2 style OOBE that will let you make an offline account, can't guarantee this trick will work forever though

I finally listened and installed using RUFUS.

Works great, and no PIN is awesome.

11 has come a long way.. I really don't mind it, and even prefer it most of the time..

They should have made it pretty like 7 though.. we do have the hardware now..

Rufus does remove the annoyance of installs quite easily, it's handy for that.

Now what if I disconnect the main internet cable from my router, so that I can connect to wifi but there's no internet connection, would that work to create a local account?

That is why when i installed it from dvd It wasnt even plugged in to the modem, I disabled Windows update and the system has ran flawlessly.

Powershell is the way to go for updates you need, no drivel.

I casually figured Rufus was temporarily incapable in this regard.

Good to know what I would've figured out at point of making a bootable usb.

if you can't use rufus to install windows 11 and have to install a stock win11, then you can skip online account by using a@a.com and any password in the account signin menu. It'll say the account is disabled due to too many incorrect password attempts, and hitting Continue will allow you to create a local account.

Nope, must use that trick or Rufus to preapply the tweak. The false email address is also a possibility, for now.

with mouse accerlation turned off in windows 11 settings, my mouse will no longer let me right click on the desktop. i'm so confused.

i mean it still will let me, after like 8 tries. but when i turn on mouse acceleration, i can right click instantly on desktop.

technology makes me want to bang my head against my desk
