I don't lose my hopes for this, also because right now we read only rumors: there is nothing set in stone.
Remote play can't sell like a regular portable console, I doubt that Sony will limit the device to that.

Unfortunately it's pretty much set, they already demonstrated the device and revealed some of it's specs, it won't even allow for cloud streaming, really just PS5 within your home network.

Funnily enough, sony is licensing it's brand for smartphone controllers like this one and you don't need a particularly good smartphone to stream from your network/cloud (see the recent logitech g cloud, the thing is weak)

I think this project q handheld is really destined to be a massive flop, a 299$ price as microsoft is "predicting" (they probably know...) is crazy.

Mh... We don't have the full specs yet, just a generic description. If the thing has a fixed display attached to it and some storage possibility, it could be hacked. Don't you need a chipset to convert the video signal from one resolution to another? In that case I don't think that Sony would put a shitty chipset.
I don't know how the streaming from the PS4/5 to smartphones works, but if the phone needs to install an app and to interact with the console in order to enable the streaming, then there is also an operative system behind it. If this is the case also for the project Q, then there is a chance that the thing could be modded, even with Sony trying to prevent that.
Just dreaming here, I like to imagine that will be something like this, because I love the idea of an 8" screen PS Vita. So don't mind too much at me. :D

Sure, there's interesting things that could possibly be done with it, but how easy will it be to unlock the bootloader of it? The SoC for such a simple feature set will be rather basic, like worse than the logitech g cloud for example as it's only local, and at 299$ is it worth it for a project? You could buy one of the cheaper Aya or Gpd handhelds and not risk the thing being locked down tight

Cheaper? Anyway, we'll see when Sony will present officially the device and someone will dismount it.

This garbage is NOT a new kind of portable console, it's just some fancy Sony streaming device. In theory this should and could be done FOR FREE on any available mobile phone or device.
