Hello TPU, I'm actually thinking if it will be worth it to upgrade my R5 3600 for a R7 5800X3D.
I don't really know if my CPU is a bottleneck or how much it could be. So if you have any way to see if my 3600 is a bottleneck for my usage, i'll take it.
If you want my system spec, everything should be on my profile.

On a side note, i'm planning to change a lot of my component when there will be the R7 8800(X/3D?) and the RX8800(XT?) just because i like the number 8 and i will probably have the money for it. I've always try to not over purchasing component but i will do an exception, and one that will last me.
I know that i should not hope too much especially with how price goes recently, it will be a wait and see.

Thanks in advance for the help and advice.

You have a high refresh rate monitor so yes the 3600 is bottlenecking your 6750xt to some degree. But if you already have plans to upgrade to the next gen x3d (probably at the very least a year away) and you have made it this far then I say just wait. What kind of games do you play? Maybe also look to a 5700x as a cheaper fill in until next gen x3d?

I mostly play Rocket League, I've started enjoying Euro Truck simulator 2 in VR with a steering wheel and pedal. I don't play a lot of demanding game but i plan to play Cities Skyline II and the 3600 might be in trouble with it. As you said, i could hold on my 3600 for a little bit longer and upgrade to AM5 on Zen5.
Before the R5 3600 that i buy in 2020, my CPU was the i5-4460.

The problem with a list of game is that i don't really know which game is a good example as a CPU heavy title, that's why i've ask if anyone have any advice on how to check if the CPU is bottle necking and by how much. (software, stresstest, checking while gaming and which kind of game are more demanding).

Disable V-sync, FPS limits, and check GPU usage in your game. If it is pegged at 100 or 99% most of the time, then you're good. If it hovers in lower regions, it means you might be seeing a CPU bottleneck.

As for upgrading, the main question is: is the 3600 enough for your needs? If it is, just keep it, and do a full system upgrade later when you need it. If it isn't, the 5800X3D is a great choice.

Since you're planning on new setup next year I'd just wait or see if you can get a 5700X on the cheap as suggested.
If you had plans to keep it around for a bit then the 5800X3D would make perfect sense.

Yes you will notice a nice upgrade. The 5800X3D is an obvious choice for cost conscious owners like yourself. Your monitor will like it too.

• Your CPU is still capable of gaming and despite actually bottlenecking your GPU, it does it for a little.
• The 3600th of Ryzens has already met its complete selling price breakdown so you're unbothered by it getting even cheaper in the future when you probably sell it.
• One year waiting is nada. Won't notice how time flies.
• 5800X3D will be OBLITERATED by 8800X3D.

That being said, your most reasonable action would be sitting back and waiting for a year or two. You might also upgrade your GPU by that time as well.

Even jumping from a 3600 to a 5600 or 5800 oem is a considerable jump, I say max it out as long as your motherboard has a bios update to support it.

Yeah a 3600 is slowww. My first AM4 part was a 3600XT, and to me it was crazy fast compared to my 3770K :D

But when I got a 5600X, it just blew it away lol..

I too upgraded from a 3770k to a 3600(non-x), and again upgraded to a 5600(non-x). Both the 3600 and 5600 felt like worthwhile upgrades from what they replaced.

At this point (and considering the 5600X3D's limited availability), I would recommend upgrading to a 5800X3D as an "end of platform upgrade". I'm hoping there will be one more price drop on the 5800X3D before it leaves retail channel but, at $280-300, it's a decent value as-is (if you're impatient).
Don't wait for them to leave retail; almost every Retail AMD Ryzen SKU inflates in price on the secondary market, it's crazy!

Low frametimes and high(er) min. framerates are important for keeping things smooth w/ high-Hz displays, VRR, or not. So, the extra L3 of an X3D, is worthwhile IMO.
The recent THG review on the 5600X3D shows how much that extra L3 helps with keeping Min FPS smooth.

Note: If you were doing content-creation work instead of gaming, etc. I'd recommend a 12-core or 16-core part.
Also, a 5800 OEM as eidairman1 recommends would be a good budget-choice upgrade, regardless.

Cities Skylines is one of those titles where there definitely is a difference in avg fps, sooooooo.....Starcraft, Factorio, to name a few.

If you're not playing exclusively at 4K (and 60Hz, honestly), whether Zen 2 is a bottleneck is not even question. If you've waited this long and are still asking whether there is a bottleneck, however, sounds like you don't play enough affected games and you could stand to keep waiting.

R5 3600 to 5600X is really that much of an upgrade ? Does AMD really made that big of an improvement with Zen 3 ?

11 minute superpi 32m to 5 minute superpi 32m from 3600XT to 5900X..

Pretty solid difference.

Not only that, but the way the CPU operates is different as is the boost algorithm.

Its a solid upgrade.

I don't have a 6600XT but i think my difference is more like it than the 6950XT. So not that much of an upgrade, and i can only relate on 2 title in this review (FH5 and HZ Dawn).

It's really strange how mixed answer i get, some are like "go for it now, it's awesome" and others are like "waiting 1-1,5 years is not that much" o_O
i'm myself more on the side to wait and do a big upgrade but i would really like to know if it would make my gaming experience that much better.

Disable V-sync, FPS limits, and check GPU usage in your game. If it is pegged at 100 or 99% most of the time, then you're good. If it hovers in lower regions, it means you might be seeing a CPU bottleneck.
I've done some test on 3 games (Rocket League, Outer Wilds and Space Engine), RL because it's my main game but the others 2 because i was thinking they will require more cpu and apparently not. It surprise me that Space Engine was using not a lot of cpu, less than RL and OW. If someone can suggest me games (excluding Counter strike) that use a lot of cpu.
Here some games I have already installed in attached file.

It made me thinking that the thing that shocked me with the 3600 was the VR experience, it get's a lot more smoother and I was able to stream VR games on discord without a lot of stuttering, which is awful in VR.

Ultimately, it's up to you. If you're happy with how the 3600 performs, then keep it, and do a platform upgrade later when you're not happy anymore. A 5800X3D would let you postpone that upgrade a bit longer, that's all. ;)

Thanks to everyone, i think i'm gonna sit on my 3600 for now and wait for Ryzen 7 Zen5 to show up, i kinda like the idea of a massive upgrade more than a smaller one that will last for a short period of time (considering i'm planning on Zen 5 anyway, not because the 5800X3D will not be good for a long time).
I have the idea of making a small form factor with the 3600 using the fractal design ridge. The only problem is that i will need a new PSU because it's not ATX form factor and a Mini ITX motherboard to fit in.

If you do SFF with the 3600, make sure you choose a case with decent airflow and/or apply a low enough power limit. I have some first-hand experiences in my build log (link in my signature).

My plan is to use the fractal design ridge, it looks really nice imo and it's really compact for what you can put in. For the cooler, probably the noctua NH-L12S to push away the heat from the case.
It will be a bit costly for a secondary pc, even third considering my old i5 4460 with 1060 at my parent's house that i use once in a month. But that won't be possible until I've changed the 3600, which is more than a year away. So maybe i will sell the 4460 and 1060 or use the 4460 for a small server for storage.

The FD Ridge looks good because it has cutouts above the CPU. I used an Aerocool CS-101 for my intended 3600 build, but its side cutouts only extended above half of the be quiet! Shadow Rock LP, essentially choking it, letting the CPU reach near throttling temps. Interestingly, I didn't have this issue with the i7-11700 in the same case with the same cooler.

I say go for it, 3600 to 5800X3D will feel like a very satisfying upgrade I think, with the added bonus of little expenditure, as no new platform needed.
