50-50 I end up with a 7900 XTX by the end of the week, so it's all good baby :rockout:

What model? Even though I am not a huge fan of Sapphire I got to admit the nitro+ is gorgeous.

Why are you upgrading? The 3090 is still a very good card; the only meaningful upgrade would be a 4090 and that's very expensive.

35% at 4k will be noticeable I agree the 4090 is more logical at around 67% more performance but I think he is able to get a 7900XTX pretty cheap so why not.

I think he is also a bit annoyed with Nvidia lol.

Everyone who thinks about buying a 7900XTX should watch this video first! And then do the Energy Cost Calculator math.

P:S.: If you got air conditioning at home, you can double the cost, lol.

Latest driver did nothing, as tested before. ;) Chances are it's a hardware issue which can't get fixed with new drivers.

Maybe with next gen AMD cards, but I am sceptical. If it's an architectural problem it may take years to bug it out.
I can afford the extra $$ is costs to run this but yeah, it's definitely a hardware issue. It's probably related to the chiplet approach and the interconnect needing constant power to maintain stability. I believe they will iron this issue out in the next iteration of chiplet GPUs, but this generation is a skip on both sides for different reasons.

hmm $131 dollar a year omg what am I going to do now. And this is not even the average because some days the desktop may only see 2-3 hours of use and it won't always be fully loaded during that time aswell.

That is literally some drinks with my wife for the night.

Damn those drivers did nothing I went from 50 watt idle to this

View attachment 304678

But i'm surely going to listen to the guy that doesn't even own the hardware.

In most European countries energy costs are around tripple of what you pay. ;) So it might not be a concern for you, but for a lot others it is.

Also I don't need to own the hardware to make a point. IMO a review from the biggest German hardware site who got professional hardware for power consumption measurements is more trustworthy than a random on a forum who uses the AMD Adrenalin software for it's power improvement claims, lol.

"Update 10.07.2023: ComputerBase measured Adrenalin 23.7.1 on a Radeon RX 7900 XTX and did not notice any changes in power consumption behavior on the Windows desktop at 144 Hz in Ultra HD. With the new driver, the graphics card needs just as much energy in every application scenario as with older drivers." (Source)

I wish I got the power savings that you did from the latest driver. I still Idle at 50w though I have a 4K60 and an ultrawide high refresh rate montior.

lol you are a random on this forum my guy. I also posted the numbers from wizzards review did he also just pull them from the Aderanline software? or did he use dedicated hardware?

You need to try harder because you are failing at this.

Its because i'm on a single display I use to do dual monitors but gave them up for a single 34' ultrawide. There is still work to be done for multimonitor setups.

What do your numbers look like when you unplug the 4k60 screen and just leave the ultrawide in?

Bored 3 years with the same card. I sold it and shipped it out already so it's a done deal

Probably the Nitro+ if it ends up being a XTX

I'd have to check when I get home, as I'm currently slacking off at work. Though for me 50w at idle is actually decent considering it was at 110w when I first bought it. and it only goes up to 63w during video playback. So all in all, I'm pretty happy with my purchase.

You posted a link to the ASUS Radeon RX 7900 XTX TUF OC Review (from Dec 13th, 2022), which tells us exactly what about the power consumption improvements of AMD's latest Adrenalin 23.7.1 (released Jul 6th 2023) driver? Exactly, absolutely nothing. Where is the link where Wizz did a re-test about the power consumption improvements with the new driver? And with a 144Hz 4K display, not 60Hz which he (to my knowledge) used for his reviews?

I guess you're the one who lost the plot here. Did you even read my posts or are you just in "troll mode" atm?

cool will be waiting for your reply as I feel you may see similar power consumption at idle as I am. I think they will tackle multimonitor power consumption in the next few drivers.

You are not worth my time and clearly a child.

I posted a screenshot of my Idle power consumption improvement, I can also post power consumption in games but that will clearly be wasted on you and your bias. You can ask wizzard to retest with the new driver. But I don't need wait for that since I can test it myself because I own the hardware!

You will get no more replies from me and can continue trolling.

Thanks, I take that as a victory.

P.S.: according to AMD's release notes AMD considers the issue as "fixed". So there won't be any power consumption improvements comming anymore for the 7000 Series.

AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.7.1 Release Notes

Adrenalin Edition 23.7.1.JPG

Wouldn't be surprised if their "fix" was to just change the power consumption numbers in the Adrenalin software for the gullible folks out there, lol.

I think you just made a rushly decision. I mean AMD must release better versions. RX 7900 XTX is not what the market expects from AMD - there must be newer, better SKUs.

If you wait for better stuff you'll always be waiting we are 9 months into this generation already and AMD hasn't even released their full stack as it is.

For tech enthusiasts it's always about messing around with new hardware if my 4090 dies tomorrow and gigabyte won't fix/replace it maybe I'll pick up a 7900XTX life goes on. In about 2 years I'll pick up whatever is the fastest gpu I can afford regardless of what happens.

It wasn't a rushed decision mate, I had been cooking this up for some time now. Monday I complete my 30th year on this rock and I want to treat myself.

Ultimately, I went with the white ROG Strix 4080. I just couldn't resist when I saw it, soooo pretty :respect:

I hear you ya great looking card if a bit pricey.

Everyone has their reason but until RT performance and FSR is much much better on AMD gpu for better or worse I'm stuck with over priced Nvidia. Although even I'll admit at 800 usd the 7900XTX on Newegg would be pretty damn enticing if I couldn't spend more than a Benjamin.

Oh yes, it's by far the most exotic and expensive 4080. Not every day you turn 30, though! :peace:

I play Diablo 4 at 3440x1440 max settings and have no perf issues. Usually butting up against my 177fps limit, sometimes down to 130-150fps depending on the area. I have a 3080Ti. You have something else going on.
The only thing else I have going on is the AMD vs Nvidia... It could very well be a performance issue on the 6900XT, which is even more concerning. My problems come with loading assets in new areas. Once everything is loaded then it plays perfectly. The best way I can describe it is that it acts like a UE game where it needs to perform a shader compilation. If I turn down the textures one step from ultra, things work smoothly even when I exit a portal.

Interesting, it seems like something else is going on there. For me it stays consistently in the mid 90's fps at max settings (no DLSS) with a 2080ti 11GB, playing on a 4K/120 TV.
You have no shader compilation issues coming out of the portal?

In Europe the RX7900XTX is still around 1050€ while the RTX4070Ti is around 850€, VAT included.
That's way cheaper than what we have... the minimum for a 7900 XTX is 1215 EUR(converted from HUF(27%)) and 4070 Ti is with VAT around 910 EUR the cheapest.

That's way cheaper than what we have... the minimum for a 7900 XTX is 1215 EUR(converted from HUF(27%)) and 4070 Ti is with VAT around 910 EUR the cheapest.
Yeah I don't envy you living in a smaller computer market... When I lived in Germany, I used www.computeruniverse.net they had some of the better prices in the region. And some times www.alternate.de

Cheapest 7900XTX in Australia is $1600 and they go past $2K in some cases. No signs of prices even dropping from the original rip-off pricing.

cool will be waiting for your reply as I feel you may see similar power consumption at idle as I am.

Can confirm that with only the ultrawide, I see only about 10w at idle and 23-25w during video playback. Same with only the 4K60 on as well.

I thought your prices included VAT. What is it in USD with the VAT excluded?

Oh yes, it's by far the most exotic and expensive 4080. Not every day you turn 30, though! :peace:
Congratulations in advance on the completion of your 3rd decade on the 3rd rock from the Sun. Out of curiosity, how much more would a 4090 have been?

Thanks for the update so yea it seems to be fixed for single monitor setups. Hoping the next few drivers will address multi-monitors.

Same, but I'm just happy they fixed the VR performance finally.

Australia has a flat 10% GST. If we take 11% off 1600 (to remove GST) we get $1524 and the exchange rate is about 0.68, so $1524 x 0.68 = $1036US
