Ever have your Noctua fan sling oil?

I was in the process of swapping CPUs yet again when I noticed some moisture on my fan. It is the one I use on my cooler, and have a roof on my case so no chance of anything getting inside. And the streak covers the entire I.D. Of the fan frame, direct center..

You can see where I touched it.. light oil. My other 3 iPPC are fine. Guess I will email them..

It was over-excited.....

Haven't seen that on my Noctua fans, I don't use Noctua fans anymore in my current build though.

Yeah I am taking them all out now. I will flip them after I get the one serviced. Good fans though, too bad. But when I had my D14 a blade from the center fan blew off while it was running. Just not seeing that Noctua quality lol. These fans have less than a year total run time.

I just installed a black version D15 on my z490 rig and the stock fans they pack are black not sure what version but they haven't been on a week yet so I haven't looked or run the rig very much yet I've been messing with my x299 mainly

Contact Noctua- they may send you replacements

I had a Scythe fan seize up on me and contacted them about it- they sent me a replacement ~~within a week or two iirc.~~. within a few days!!!

EDIT- just checked my messages- fan was within a couple of months of going out of warranty. They responded the next day, already shipped out and provided a tracking number!

Yeah I have the X3D in now and just got the cooler mounted. That CPU is super easy to cool so..

Just gotta mount my fans and carry this beast back down to the basement. That TG adds a few ounces..

Haven't felt need to look at construction of Chromax 150 I use. Or any other Noctua fan.

Anyone here know if they have a user accessible reservoir under a plug? Or if this was more in line with a manufacturing defect allowing lubricant to escape through another channel.

One of my stock CM case fans lost most of it's oil before installation for shipping and spun the remainder out during use. So I drained both per above and made doubly sure the plugs were actually sealing after refilling them. Inside of a week they performed better in all aspects including lowered noise. Faulty one is constantly running at a fairly high speed these days with no issues.

Thats odds, the vertical mounting for the heatsink fan should be the most favorable for a modified sleeve bearing (Noctua SSO).

Also with this thread title I keep thinking "Some people call it a sling blade..."

If I recall correctly you have some TY143, just go back to those? They are pretty reliable.

Yeah that's what I thought too. Yet the ones that were laying down are fine. My TY-143 is fine, been running since 2017, unfortunately I just have the one. That's ok though, I am trying to move away from high speed fans. Don't need them with my current setup. The fans that I do have installed that can do over 2000RPM I have limited to 70%, or roughly 1800RPM. Nice and quiet

I have 7 TY-143, but only two are good and the rest are average, they changed motor design and the newer ones don't idle as well at low speed. I was going to just keep the two good ones on the front of my case because 140mm simply works better for that and then run NF A12x25 everywhere else except the top, where I have three NF-A12x15 already (not enough space with my EATX board and VRM heatsinks and ram all).

I was into high speed fans for a while but the noise got to me and I mostly have stuff running low speed. Low speed is outside their optimal range so it doesn't make much sense to use these fans for it.

If you are looking for a recommendation, I strongly recommend the Noiseblocker NB BlackSilentPro PK-PS 140mm PWM fan, it is a fantastic airflow fan that emits no noise and can even be mounted with impeller up without bearing failure because it uses a mag lev design. I have one that has been in that position for 7 years now, recently bought another, for two of my Lian Li PC A05NB based rigs' top intake. I have a couple spare rigs in these A05 cases and airflow is a challenge with that design.

The two fans in my NH-D14 have been running for 11 years now with no problems using the slowdown resistors; amazing performance. Running right now, in fact.

Hopefully yours are a one-off and not a general trend.

Hi,
I accidentally hit a FS fan switch on my apex wiping off my psu yesterday and the noctua fans were well running full Speed at around 1500rpm
Not terrible but man that was bugging me why the system wasn't overheating then eventually I saw the switch finally after 30-45 minutes :banghead:

But yeah usually they were doing around 800rpm so bit of a difference :laugh:

My ml120's were doing the same thing at nearly 2000rpm :eek:

Heheh yeah man, I do like my 140s. Those NF-A14s move a TON of air at top speed, but man are they loud!

I am basically rocking a tuned Dell right now, so I don't need anything crazy, I am using all Thermalright fans right now, except the 2 Fractals.

Hello just signed up so I can post I have the exact same issue on my 120mm iPPC fan. Was going to mount my fans to the bottom part of the Lian Li o11d case as I had just them lying there for about a month...and I noticed a ring of oil on the inside just like your picture and on the fan blade. Design flaw you think?

Maybe.. I didn't actually do anything about it to be honest. I did wipe it off and used it for awhile

Right now I don't have have any high performance fans in my system :kookoo:
