Looks like real bandwidth and core count matters. Only the 4090 maintains its usual leading position and even a 7900XT moves past the 4080. But in Minimums, its a green bloodbath to be honest

Welcome to the future...
1080P?!? 8+GB , check your actually getting those textures because you probably are not on Nvidia here.

Not too interested though, I hadn't heard of 1 never mind 2.

It's not "the" first game released using UE5, that title goes to Desordre which uses both Lumen and Nanite, and was released on June 1, 2023.

The game is not in my playlist- I just wanted to see next gen graphics but it’s disappointing yet again.

We may have to wait for Alan Wake 2 to make use our shiny and painfully expensive gpus.

Radeons are fast as expected on games without RT. I think devs tried really hard to keep the vram usage under 8ish GB.
If you just want to see UE5 demos they're out there, one is a forest demo https://wccftech.com/unreal-engine-5-2-insanely-detailed-tropical-rainforest-demo/ the other is set in the old west https://wccftech.com/unreal-engine-5-impressive-old-west-demo/ both can be downloaded.

What nonsense. "We designed this game with upscalers in mind", practically means "we didn't optimize, who cares, you'll buy anyway"

Thanks for saving me 50 bucks, W1zz! (2)

That dev / publisher attitude is exactly why I hate DLSS / FSR and ignore them completely.

Using that tech to eek out an older card for 1 more gen fine. Using that tech as a crutch to make a game playable on new mid range hardware not and we are going to see a lot lot lot more of the latter over the coming years.

VRAM usage is ridiculous anyway. Think about it, a 4k screen has ~8 million pixels. Assuming half of that is used for something else, leaving you with "only" 4 GB of VRAM for textures, that's enough memory to hold textures 500x the size of your screen. Seems to me like the only way you'd run out of that, is if you try to keep all textures at max resolution preloaded.

The game looks good, but requiring a 3090 ti for 60fps in 1440p makes it a no go, and another example of dogshit optimization

Depends on the CPU used and settings.... using upscaling helps quite a bit with stutter as well....

So seems UE5 not fixed then. :( Thanks for the response.

I am thinking the industry might need regulation as I feel quality specifically from big launch titles has nose dived.

Whether it's truly unoptimized we will find out when "Immortals of Aveum" releases in a month.
But I can basically guarantee you that a 4090 will not be able to run that game maxed out at 4K/60 native either.
At least it's more colorful and has Lumen, so there will be less whining I guess...

idk unreal engine in general has been pretty bad since UE3 and really the state of pc gaming is better than in the 90s/00s by a mile. Also the majority of money still comes from console unit sales for them so that is the priority a lot of issues we see on PC are absent from the much weaker console versions.

The Coalition and Epic itself are the only two developers I fully trust to have a decent launch UE engine game to be honest and that's been the case for a long time.

I agree this engine when all the advanced features are enabled makes a 3090 a 1080p60 gpu at best to begin with.

A small AA studio was able to include all three upscaling technologies, and frame generation? Where did they find the resources to do that? It must have taken so much time and effort, they probably had to starve themselves. Thank heavens big AAA studios are not going for such sacrifices.

What kind of imaginary, un-released next gen hardware do you need to run this one well?

What a sad excuse of a poorly optimized game.

I agree completely. But it seems where we're headed. If that is just a solid FSR implementation though (or any other brand, or rather, just settle on one and unify it?), without artifacting bs, I'm fine with it. A lot needs to change though, for that. It needs to be everywhere, simply.

Depends on the CPU used and settings.... using upscaling helps quite a bit with stutter as well....

Honestly this might not be up to the engine or the hardware. The game logic is just godawful probably. There's barely anything happening on screen and it just runs tediously slow.

Yeah it would be one thing if it was mind blowingly gorgeous with insane geometry levels and RT better than CP2077 with insanely detailed texture work and next level physics but the performance here does not justify the visuals.

In some areas it looks ok at best others really dated.

They must have saved a lot of time by using generic resources, and not properly optimizing the game... so there must have been time left over to implement the magical upscaling technology. :p

You know, I was considering dropping into this thread a day or two ago to say something along the lines of "it's not running too bad on my 6950 XT! I had to drop shadows from Ultra to High but otherwise I'm holding a pretty steady 60fps at 1440p native, no upscalers".

Then I got to this room. Even with all graphics dropped to High or lower, even with FSR set to Ultra Performance I could not get anything above 50 fps. And then to make it worse, I spent the next boss fight at a buttery smooth 30fps. And has others have said, the game doesn't look all that fantastic.

The one saving grace is that the boss fights in this game seem far easier and less gank-heavy than it's predecessor but my goodness, I should not be getting shades of PTDE without DSFix in a 2023, AA game.

Ugly as hell while even a 4090 not enough for smooth 4k. Not to mention lumen not even used, probably 10fps with 4090 if used.. XD

Unreal Engine 5, as expected. The thing is, usually AAA games using optimized inhouse enghines, only the poor studios using licensed engines, like UE5, so games using this, will never get proper optimization, becaus they lack the money and hr for that.
