CPU-Z Flickering? Any Ideas?

I use CPU-Z to look at Memory Timings, but I noticed that the words and numbers in the software tend to flicker a bit sometimes, specifically in the CPU and Memory tabs. not everything will flicker at once, but a specific word or number might flicker for a second

it's sort of like this, if you can view that, except it's in CPU-Z not HWInfo. that's an example of the kind of flicker I notice.

I thought it might be the values refreshing, because I noticed it on my Memory Timings while playing a game (the numbers weren't changing but I saw one of the numbers flickering sometimes), but even the words like "Core Voltage" and numbers that don't change under load, like spec details, would flicker while just watching youtube, or running Heaven Benchmark, or just idle.

obviously it's not an end of the world-level issue but is there a reason some of the numbers and words in CPU-Z flicker like this, or is it a software bug? like I said, it seems to just be in the CPU and Memory tabs, not the others, at least from what I can see

I don't have an answer - just looking for more information.

Is that your HWiNFO flickering too? If not, is CPU-z the only program that flickers?

Do you have the latest version of CPU-z (2.05.0)?

Please fill out your TPU System Specs so we know what hardware and OS we are dealing with

HWInfo does not flicker and yes CPU-Z does seem to be the only program that flickers. I am on Windows 10, and both my OS and CPU-Z are up to date

I wouldn't put much thought into this. My guess the flickering comes from when the CPU clocks are refreshed. HWinfo flickers for me sometimes. Can't say CPU-Z does, but I am also not paying that much attention to it.

Report the issue to cpuid and use an old version

Not a hardware issue, thus non issue

and to actually report the flickering issue on cpu-z, go here and contact them

or maybe update cpu-z to 2.06.x, which came out near end of May 2023

This sounds like the issue some people are having with office

Lot of potential causes on very different systems

It seems related to how MPO works (multi plane overlays) but that's a complex issue on it's own.
My guess is some software that's in common (or multiple softwares doing the same thing) is the cause - MPO gives you four overlays that different programs can hook into each layer - which is why discords overlay can be visible at the same time as the steam overlay

Without MPO, something like the windows volume bar appearing over a game kicks you to windowed mode, no Gsync etc until its gone but with MPO it just appears in one of the layers and those layers can be at seperate frame rates.

This fits the flickering issue fairly well if something weird happens with the overlays - theoretical example would be wallpaper engine changing a wallpaper, which then makes WDM.exe reset the graphics in windows to auto-match the colours to the image with the default transparency effect in the background layer and things don't render where they're meant to in that time (text is rendered below the app its from)

With no hardware information we can't go any further than random software theories, but users of AMD and Nvidia have seen this issue, most often with multi monitor setups where one display works and another doesnt - MPO only works on one display at present.

some of those problems might be resolved with recently updated AMD & nvidia display drivers

also, CPU-Z app updated to version 2.08 around late September
