Has anyone got this new update yet how is it working for you, i have not got it yet.. I see they did not update the AGESA, strange not to see this updated. If anyone has got this update, i know everyone system is different, just wanted to know how its working for the people that got the update. Thanks, I am honestly scared to get brand new updates for BIOS lol.

Gee whiz Dude! You really need to be MUCH MORE efficient at telepathically sending information with your mind. :( For example if only we knew the brand and model number of your motherboard, we might be able to perceive what hardware you are talking about. Is it a laptop? A PC? Who knows? My ESP and mindreading capabilities are a little rusty these days - especially when I know absolutely nothing about your System Specs, you, or the general direction from my house to where you live - so I know which way to face so I can focus my own telepathic and mind reading powers. :twitch:

Thanks. Now, why do you want to update the BIOS? What revision are you up to now?

Generally, except for brand new models of motherboards (and yours is not that), BIOS updates simply add support for new components and features that came out after the motherboard left the factory. Some may fix/patch obscure bugs that only affect a small handful of users.

Thanks, I am honestly scared to get brand new updates for BIOS lol.
You should be scared - or at least wary and cautious. Problems updating the BIOS are pretty rare these days, but they are still possible - and they can be catastrophic. :(

If your computer is working fine, and you are not looking to upgrade to some component not currently supported with your current BIOS, but is supported in the new version, then the old rule of thumb applies: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

But if you are having problems, check the readme or change log for the BIOS update and see if it addresses your issue. If not, probably best not to mess with it. If you update anyway, be sure to have a good backup of all your data first.

That said, it is VERY RARE for a current BIOS, one that had been working fine, to suddenly go bad and start causing problems. Typically the new problems are caused by something else.

The last bios update i got was 4201 and its not even on the Asus website anymore, so the main reason i was wanting to get the latest is bc it looks like some security patches, i guess im just wanting to be more safe than sorry, but if the latest bios 4601 was causing alot of issues, im just going to wait, but its also kinda scary to wait bc my bios is a security risk.. So i dont know what do to..

bc it looks like some security patches,

i dont know what do to..
"Looks like" is not good enough for me. I would want to see specifics to determine if they actually affect me. Odds are, they do not.

Does your computer sit in a public place where a bad guy can gain physical access to it without your knowledge? That is, do unauthorized people have access to your computer?

If not, I would not worry about possible security risks on such an old model AS LONG AS you keep your OS and your security software current, and you avoid being "click-happy" on unsolicited links, downloads, attachments and popups.

Ok, i was thinking it was easier to hack with another computer, not someone coming in my home and taking control..

It would be easy "IF" your computer was woefully out of date, you didn't use any security software or it was way out of date, you disabled the firewall, and you didn't use a router, and your wifi passphrase was something silly like you dog's name.

3700X is Zen 2 so it is affected by Zenbleed. Current BIOS (AGESA) for most boards is 1.2.0.A, which does not address Zenbleed. Based on what people are saying there seem to be a wide range of reactions to the vulnerability, but personally I wouldn't really consider it as being absolutely gamechanging and immediately dire security risk.

Either wait for the next AGESA, or buy a Zen 3 CPU, or don't worry about it at all.

hi, all I got a Crosshair Viii Hero and a Ryzen 9 3950x CPU and I updated to that same bios I believe the new bios are for the 5000 series CPU I was stable on bios 3801 which is for the 3000 series CPU and had no problem with. the only reason I updated is that bg3 kept crashing so now I ordered a 5950x hope I have better luck

ok i got the new cpu in my system the ryzen 9 5950x with bios 4601 and it works like a charm so there is proof the 3000 series cpu does not work with bios after 3801

It may be compelling, but it is not proof. All it proves is that CPU does not work with that specific motherboard/BIOS combination - unless you can show where AMD states otherwise.

yep true but it is compelling i had simuler happenings with crosshair ii board maybe its just asus who knows

sorry about opening this old thread but I just wanted to share my findings about why my system kept crashing I went through all kinds of testing it was not the CPU or motherboard or video card the problem was the power supply I replaced it with a sea sonic 1200w power supply no more crashing

@Rock N Roll Rebel - I am glad you got your problem sorted out but understand this thread you hijacked :( for your problem is not your thread, or about your problem.

You have a different motherboard than the OP and different CPUs too. @brandon7171 started this thread and made no mention of crashing problems so even your problems are different.

Yes, same BIOS version, but that's it. But that means nothing really because most motherboard makers use the same consolidated BIOS firmware package for multiple motherboards in the same family of boards. This is so they only have to maintain one package instead of potentially dozens. Same with graphics card makers.

So same BIOS version does not mean the problems are the same - especially when it is a known fact the boards are different (VIII Formula vs VII Hero) with different CPUs (Ryzen 9 5950x vs Ryzen 7 3700X). Not to mention different RAM (4 x 16GB vs 3 x 8GB), and different graphics solutions (MSI RTX 3080 vs EVGA GTX 1070Ti) too.

So in the future, to avoid confusion (for OP, posters, and helpers too) and to ensure you get the undivided attention you deserve, please start your own thread with your own problem, rather than hijacking another's. Thanks.

sorry man you riped me a good one now I'm butt hurt your right but you don't need to be so mean

Sorry I upset you - but how else to say it? My intent was not to shame but to remind all reading. I could have said that thread hijacking was rude and poor forum etiquette, or that it violated the forum rules we all agreed to abide by - then left it at that.

Instead, I first said I was glad you resolved your problem (and I am), then I pointed out how you (and the OP and everyone else) deserve to have their own problems addressed and not have someone else take over the thread with theirs. Right?

Again, sorry I upset you but I fear one of the problems with hijacking a thread happened. That is, it appears the OP gave up, has not returned and his problem left unresolved - perhaps because attention was drawn away from his problem. :(
