Hello,

Does anyone here run ubuntu on there dell poweredge?

I have a Dell poweredge T620 and for some reason cant seem to get ubuntu running smoothly on my dell. I suspect its mostly my nvidia p2000 but was hoping for other reasons?

Try using an older build of Ubuntu to see if it runs ok. Seems like it might need to be connected to the internet to download drivers and other updates to get it running smoothly

I tried 18 and 20, but it looks like biggest issues is the monitors not being recognized properly, I cant get hdmi or DP to work, only the vga using onboard video, which is terrible.

I am using dell poweredge T620 with nvidia quadro P2000
I have a samsung monitor and a dell monitor.

Well according to Ubuntu it does support the graphic card in question. Try and go to the display properties and see if you can detect the monitors along with changing the resolution. Either way it may need vbios update to clear up any issues with the display output unless the output display on the graphic card maybe non functional

Well according to Ubuntu it does support the graphic card in question. Try and go to the display properties and see if you can detect the monitors along with changing the resolution. Either way it may need vbios update to clear up any issues with the display output unless the output display on the graphic maybe non functional

that may be the issue, its not detecting the monitors and cant choose any.

And I am dual booting with windows server 2019 and all ports, etc are working. so its definitely something with ubuntu.

Strange you may have to download the drivers for that graphic card in Ubuntu using the Sudo command to get the required files to get it working as it may not have all the drivers on the current iso so it should be simple enough to sort out

Yea I have tried that too. who knows what is going on. ugh

Maybe something minor could be corrupted iso or something broken during the installation of Ubuntu which can happen easily enough during the process of making a bootable USB method. No harm in downloading a clean iso again and trying another usb memory stick to rule out a few possibilities as this is what I am thinking at the top of my head

It dawn on me that the Quadro p2000 have 4 display ports no hdmi or vga on it but only you mentioned it that you may have to change the display output from the motherboard to pci-e graphic card something along that line as this might be the reason why the Ubuntu not detecting the graphic card in the first place

Thats what I am working on. so far I have ubuntu 18, 20 and 22.

Check the above post it might be a clue of why it not detecting the graphic card

You might have to check in this link to see where all the jumpers are set to see if any are out of place or the idac configuration needs changing

I find it abit strange for the Dell T620 to have Matrix GM200 as graphic display as other forums suggest to disable the embedded graphic but not ideal otherwise you have to jumper it to reset the bios back to factory default and setting it up again

I finally fired up my ASRock X99 Extreme4/3.1 with the E5 2699 V4 Xeon in it last night after letting it sit for several months while playing with other PC's. All systems go other than discovering it has two bad RAM sticks (8 x 16 G.Skill Ripjaws V). Absolutely no idea how that could happen just sitting unplugged but I filed a RMA with G.Skill. On the good side of things I discovered one of the two dead 6950X's I was given actually works perfectly. The other is still a paperweight though.

Now to decide whether to use the 2699 V4 or the 6950X in the Asus Rampage V Edition 10 I've been procrastinating on building a rig with for a few months. I got the Edition 10 from another TPU'er and only the board has been used, everything else is still unopened in the plastic bags in the box. I was told one of the RGB colors doesn't function properly on the mobo but I always turn that stuff off anyway. This should be a fun build when completed no matter what CPU I use as long as I can stuff 128GB of Ram into it. The Edition 10 has more options than the Extreme4/3.1 plus I have an OC panel for it that works after flashing the correct firmware using a Maximus Z170 Hero. The panel is fairly useless other than looking nice for monitoring use.

I can try and disable the on-board and see if that works. If not I can also enable it again via ssh

Be very careful not to mix software that can access the EC on asus motherboards, avoid Corsair Link/ICUE entirely and anything else that might run HWMon drivers,

If you crash/hang the EC, you can fry the cpu by sending bad voltage from the FIVR on vid. (basically the worse form of x79/x99 black screen known to affect Win10 1607+HWmon/icue)

If you want to to see EC sensor data in HwInfo, disable it if in Aida64 if you also run that, or the other way - both software can share info into AB/RTSS so you only really need one or the other anyway.

I'll be using an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 or 360 with aftermarket fans for cooling, I dropped Corsair a few years ago. The OS will be Win 10 Enterprise LTSC. I already have everything on hand for the build.

As temperatures are getting lower outside, I decided to fire up my Fujitsu R940(Dual Xeon E5-2696V3).

After using it about an hour, my brain had enough of the PSU fan. It sounded like Wroom-Wroom-Wroom. I did try connecting fan to outside of psu, to motherboard fan connector via Noctua fan extender->No boot because no fan signal coming from psu.

Next step I decided to disconnect PWM-wire which goes to the fan. It did work and now Noctua fan in PSU spins at 1800-1860 RPM with L.N.A resistor. But now without annoying PWM control from motherboard. It is not silent, but better than PWM controlled.

Know that feeling you might well use the 7v resistor mod these can be bought in a bundle of 10 or more cables adaptors as you were talking about pwm it can be controlled by fan control software on GitHub you may want to check it if it compatible as no harm in checking

Or just replace all the fans for quieter ones and controlled by 3 or 5 channels fan controller that fits into the dvd drive bay problem solved.

It seems like one of these hidden features that have a wire jumpered between the fan and motherboard where one is either connected to the negitive and rpm or positive to rpm as it involves probing the wires to see which one is connected to a diode or resistors between two wires

Yes, my w5 idles around 80w and at 5.2GHz can exceed 600w, was wondering if the W-2400 chips were any different compared to the tile ones but next to no one outside a few reviewers have them it seems..

Don't know but only someone willing to buy it could do testing on them to find out what differences it has on power consumption this is like finding a needle in a haystack
