so maybe to get high quality 2x32gb 6000mhz cl30?
That or 96GB, both are dual-rank. Timings aren't going to matter much here for a workstation computer. If you are playing games, once your GPU bound, it doesn't matter much either besides a bit higher 1% lows in some games.

I would get a memory kit that has 3 profiles. Patriot comes to mind, but a few other brands do this as well. DDR5-5600 or lower is the safest bet for compatibility with 2x Dual Rank. If you don't like manually setting up the memory freq and timings, those extra profiles are nice. Say you buy a DDR5-6200 with 3x profiles, the lowest one is 5600 and in the future if you decide to upgrade the CPU, just switch to the higher profile.

Have a look at this:

14700k multi-core score is 24% more than 7900x
7900x at launch was 549$ MSRP
13700k MSRP was 409$

14700k will probably cost you same as 7900x and compiles your shaders 24% faster.

Also it supports ddr4 ram. Which means you can keep your current ram.
I suggest instead of 8800x3d, try upgrading to 4090 when 4090ti/5090 is released. Because unreal uses a lot of vram.
Any part of your 3d workflow that puts your CPU to 100% load, will be 24% faster on 14700k while costs you zero for ram. And if necessary, you can add ram upto 128.

3D Max I think support CUDA rendering. zbrush was 100% CPU a few years back. marvelous designer - no idea and Unreal is 100% CPU for banking textures. It kinda seems like HEDT is a better platform for a higher core count. But I don't see you needing over 64GB of ram.
V-ray rendering engine for 3dmax uses GPU.
Arnold the renderer for Maya can use upto 8 GPUs.
There are other GPU renderers that work with 3dmax : redshift, octane, Maxwell....

@droid99 you can search this and see how many people are saying they're running out of video memory in unreal:

Will be fun to see what's the multi-core score of 9800x3d comparing to 14700k:
12700k released 2021 at 409$ scores 22812
7800x3d released 2023 at 449$ scores 17762
:peace:

People running out of video memory in unreal, not system memory. Probably a bug that has been resolved in the 2 years since UE5 has been out.

we swapped 7900x to 7950x, new aio 360 and new case, ram gonna be 6000mhz 2x32gb
seems like you're holding to the idea of rendering on the cpu.

This was my journey: bought 3900x, decided an 8-core cpu for next time bcz 2% cpu utilization....

it still exists. unreal doesn't have garbage collection and keeps every asset in memory even when not used. the vram problem goes away when you package the project for release, but remains while you're developing.

ways to make it happen less often:
not using DirectX12 : costs you losing Nanite
increase pooling size : remedies temporarily, but gets back to you when project size is around 50gb
decrease engine scalability settings: uglier viewport, but c'est la vie
disable post process volume, DOP : makes unreal look like CorelDraw again
not running your tests fullscreen. Sometime I press F11 and then:
