Starfield discussion thread

I have had about 10 crashes. 9 of them are straight hard PC shutoffs. It is like someone secretly hit the power button... The AMD overlay shows nothing unusual. Temps at 73 degrees, CPU barely used, and only 8 gigs of the 12 being uses for memory.
Im going to have to agree with the gang, do you have a killawatt? Maybe watch when it’s kicking off. Mine where just crash to desktop. I think maybe my 1080ti’s are getting some wear over time 350 over on the ram stopped being stable.

10 hours in? boy you must have a NASA computer

I'm using a fcking threadripper here and can't get past the tutorial due to 100% CPU usage and all the stuttering lmfao
I have no stuttering on my threadripper and CPU usage is only 100% on one core. About 16~20 other threads randomly load up depending on the game though.

After playing elite dangerous for over 1000 hours getting good at ship combat in this game feels familiar but weird. I’m sure I’ll get used to it at some point though.

New ARC drivers out. It holds the same version number as beta (they have done this before) but the changelog is different.

Here we go again. Intel tries to confuse us. I'm a Asperger Autist - i'm struggling often with Sarcasm and this is a Part of different Fun from Intel. Holy Moly, okay. Why did they change not the Version-Number?

I'm interested in hearing more.

I was talking to someone on Steam last night that played damn near every space combat sim since Tie Fighter (which I have played many as well since then), and he said he enjoyed the space combat. Obviously its arcady and all...but he raved about it being fun. He said he most recently played Everspace 2, which I'm currently playing in between DW2 and GalCiv4, and said the action can feel hectic like that at times...not quite on the same scale and a little...different.

I played A LOT of Elite Dangerous years ago and was 90% in combat. I really enjoyed it, especially before it went gold. I'm really trying to hold off purchasing this for a while... I've yet to really get into Fallout 4, so I figure might as well give that a go before I get this, and you know maybe finish Everspace 2, and maybe do more with No Man's Sky before adding another space game to the collection lol. But the temptation is real.

looks like the same package. This is only the second time they have ever done this, and in both cases they just changed it from beta to WHQL.

The installer doesnt even recognize its a new version and instead gives you a "repair" option when installing over the one released on the 2nd with the same version number.

No notable changes and the structure is exactly the same. As is the version numbers for all the firmware I extracted.

Likely because the beta version solved enough problems and had no bugs/glitches. This does happen.

FailRace had a go. Thought his perspective would be interesting.
Fair warning, he is playing the Xbox version. Also keep in mind, he recorded this during a stream and will be responding to stream chatters.

The more I see of the game the more I am certain I will not bother with it, even in two years time.
I mean WTF is this???

While the textures looked awesome, AA and AF were still very costly hardware wise and it was 1280 or 1024 resolution and 8 but colors on some hardware at the time.

It’s a testament to software optimization, and the later mods made the whole game incredibly immersive.

Space Combat is pretty fun, my friend just showed me a trick for keyboard mouse users. "For space combat I didn't see this tip anywhere. But you hold spacebar (assuming you're kn M+KB) it turns off inertial dampeners. So you can shoot forward, hold space, turn your ship around and maintain your now backwards momentum while firing.

Pair that with some well angled and timed boosts, or even thruster use (if you have that unlocked through piloting) and you can do some interesting offensive and evasive maneuvers"

@Octopuss if you don't enjoy it or think it looks like shit, that is fine and your opinion, but no need for you to post in this thread. you can go enjoy other games. those of us here are enjoying a game and sharing in discussion of that game.
You have to unlock the yaw strafing?
*(right to left or left to right movement)

If anyone is interested in FREE Stuff check this out before homey Todd patches it. :twitch: How to glitch the "Mark I Space Helmet, Pack, and Spacesuit":

yeah I did that a couple days ago, to be honest it was pretty fun. by level 10 though it was replaced with something better though. it's def really good for the early game.

not sure on this

I literally just got to New Atlantis so I haven’t seen much, but the broad mechanics seem similar. Keep it in the green zone for maneuverability, manage power with pips, and you can disengage ‘flight assist’ and use inertial controls. All weapons (at least at first) seem to be gimbaled, not turreted or fixed. Not sure if you have to unlock horizontal or vertical strafing.

Holy shit, what country do you live in that you have data cap? We had that shit here in central Europe back in 1999.
Good old U, S of A.

Maybe this will make you feel better....no, probably make you feel worse for us folks getting bent over the barrel here in the US when it comes to ISPs and data caps:

Well this blows. My game crashes no matter what I try as soon as I enter Kreet labs 1 hours into the game. **** this. Driver update, no fix. Turn off FSR2, no fix. Sigh. Gotta wait for a patch

With the beta intel driver it is playable but not very good. FPS fluctuates from 20-60 even when i stay in one place. CPU 6-7 cores used, vram 9-10gb used, ram 9gb used. GPU usage randomly goes up and down.

All high but xess is not enabled (mod)
Waiting for the optimized driver.
I'm also playing on an old rog notebook (i7 4820qm, 16gb, gtx960m,) bad in cities but playable at closed places and planets. (720p everything is low, ini and dx12dll is hacked because it is a dx11 card 750ti with 4gb)

It's not only you, I'm afraid. Nor specific to Intel... the game is an utter mess as far as performance is concerned.

Yep, it spanks my i9-13900KS as well. And yet worse, read up earlier in the thread... all that CPU? It's just wasted because of the way the game is coded. Almost completely in-order and in-line. If the Intel VTune profiler is accurate it spends at least 85% of the time on bad speculation due to the program issuing machine clears all the time.

Good Grief, the adoring fan is annoying!!

By Azura, by Azura, by Azura! It's the Grand Champion! I can't believe it's you, standing here next to me! Yes, oh great and mighty Grand Champion? Is there something you need? Can I carry your weapon? Shine your boots? Backrub, perhaps? Here? Right here? What about, say... over there? No? Right here? All right then, you're the Grand Champion! Whatever you say!

...wrong game?

I presume you're trying to play on the 7900 XTX? Try downgrading your driver, sometimes that works with AMD. It's one of the things that I hate the most about playing anything new on a Radeon, sometimes you have to change drivers like changing t-shirts to get different things to work, and even when the driver is recommended or supposedly optimized for something, they still manage to get it broken.

I tried 23.8.2 and whatever came before it, low and behold yet another driver released today, 23.9.1

Ah, you've experienced it! You tell me that is not irritating and I'll nominate you for an Noble Peace Prize!

Right?

try todays driver, verify integrity of game files, make sure windows is fully up to date, do you have intel chipset inf drivers installed for your cpu? cause you should.

I've spent more time filling in this form and restarting than actually playing the game.

Right?

I finished Sarah Morgan's personal questline and proposed to her...
the game has you take her to a special place to ask for her hand in marriage
, I can only imagine the immersion break if this adoring fan showed up. I'd have a bounty for murder on all United Colonies planets, not the galactic peace prize.

Romance in this one is really well done, unlike in Skyrim... much better than even Fallout 4 at it.

If you truly want to have your voice somewhat heard (and by that, I mean heard: I don't promise they will fix your issues), register at https://vanguard.amd.com/ and join their beta-tester program. You'll get advance access to pre-release drivers and a special channel for this bug report tool, one that I can reassure you that they read - I've been a member for over 5 years now, although inactive in a way since I moved to Nvidia (precisely out of frustration that they haven't fixed many of the issues I have reported). Submitting multiple forms on the bug report tool is not going to improve your success rate here.

yep done all that

yep done all that

tried sfc /scannow as a admin command prompt? might have corrupted version of windows

not sure what your issue is, but I have had 0 crashes in 22 hours of gameplay with a 7900 xt and my 7900 xt is overclocked pretty good too.

You've filled it in a few times now, just click "Don't Send" going forward. And for the record, it's the game not your GPU(which is an excellent card BTW). Intel ARC cards are having issues as well, @Solaris17 can attest to this. There have also been some CPU issues. Give it time, let the devs get some patches out and remember, this is a PreRelease game. It was going to have some bugs and glitches. Hang in there! The devs will sort things out.

I recommend doing the Space pirate mission. You have a lot of options to back stab and do horrible things.
