Yup, Starfield is under a microsope right now and saying bad things about it gets youtube clicks.
And you dont think the other end of the scale had its air time with Bethesda not giving out review copies?! They are actively manipulating public opinion and it backfired because Starfield is ultra mediocre and by 2023 standards way below par. The launch hype makes no sense and now reality is seeping in as people get hands on.

Stop kidding yourself. I enjoy myself in the game but its totally clear how lazy and meh it is, from dialogue to animations to loading screen bs and missing immersive features. They deserve all criticism they get.

The interesting thing is Bethesda US gave everyone review codes even streamers. That is how DF got review code and not Eurogamer super odd honestly. Usually it's the other way around with Publishers not wanting DF to see the game early which is understandable most games these days come with substantial day 1 patch.

Although just looking at the games state it doesn't seem like either Intel or Nvidia got much time to optimized their drivers and maybe none in the case of intel which is also odd.

Well this game can't handle my computer!

I get an error "graphics card doesnt meet minimal specifications requirement"

I could run any game on my old PC but not this one?

I'm afraid you can't run this game on an old PC. It costs $100+ anyway, that money's better put towards your upgrade fund. Don't even bother if you have a low end PC, it's not going to be fun. Trust me on this one, even if you're used to playing games when they run like shit, you just won't like it, especially if you don't have an SSD.

Fov 100 is a must even in reviews since it's just a custom INI file with two lines in it that the engine understands natively, not a mod. But the frame rate will probably suffer

I like to use 110 for third-person view and 90 for first in this game, I find that it gives me the usual camera angles that I enjoy in the older games without too much fisheye, 1080p/16:9 of course.

I for one don't think it's lazy, I think it's a miracle given this is still running on Creation. I'm almost finished with the main story (I haven't tackled the MQ to get to NG+ asap), I think I will be completing it tonight. Some of the late game quests are ingenious and actually rather amazing. I only had to use the console and setstage to get past one glitch in over 100+h, on a release version without any patches? It's unheard of, they spent a lot of time polishing it, I can tell.

To me, almost lifelong Beth RPG fan, I'm awed. It's the best game I have played in a very long time, their storytelling always gets to me: I'm going to call this game their magnum opus. It's the best game they've ever made, and it's probably better than TES 6 will be. I'm calling it right here.

I think that pretty much sums up Bethesda games in general I think Skyrim and Fallout 3/4 are crap but I know people who would put them on their all time favorite games list. I will say this is the least buggy Bethesda release by a mile to the point that I am 30 hours in and have had 0 so far I can't really even remember a game that released in the last couple years without at least 1 or 2 game breaking bugs along with a litany of other issues. I think only Sony first party titles like Horizon/Uncharted/GOW on PlayStation consoles ship in a similar state at least when it comes to big AAA type games.

Performance on the other hand is typical Bethesda.

I dunno I mean I can't figure out where the "heavy" is coming from. It doesn't even use 7GB of RAM on Ultra. I lowered to High which was under 6GB and frankly with FSR on looks better(hair all had a strange "aura") I mean I'm not seeing anything here better than FO4 or 76 for that matter, just Creation, again, where it's getting bogged down is a mystery with everything I have seen....

The game may not be using that much RAM, but that doesnt really justify the lower framerate compared to other AAA titles. Hell, maybe it doesnt perform that well because it doesnt utilize RAM well ?

Looking at GPU usage data and the performance just something doesn't add up. I still see the same Creation with just some more stuff bolted to it but nothing to account for the performance

If you think the performance is bad just go look at how it performs on intel/Nvidia right now you will feel a bit better. I think the 6800XT is almost 40% faster than a 3080 10G lol,

Ooof. Yeah I actually have just been playing it and not actually looked in depth at any of the performance reviews to see how the rest are handling it...

I just finished the main story. 100h or so. This game is one for the books... and I loved the way the post-game is handled. I can't wait for the DLCs to start coming... I hope there's some content on the pipeline for this, I'm not sure I will be satisfied if we get 2 DLCs that are the same size as the Skyrim expansions this time.

Closer to 15-16 GB committed by Starfield.exe alone would be more accurate, it uses a lot more RAM than that. Double check it, can't be just 6 GB.

CPU-wise game is a total mess (largely sequential, written in a way that X3D doesn't help at all either - it spends more than 80% of the CPU in machine clears, it's something insane), and AMD's direct involvement with the graphics portion resulted in the same old mess you know and love. It's not the usual Creation jankiness this time around... it's heavy system requirements + no optimization whatsoever + inefficient graphics engine. More that is researched the fouler it becomes, read this... it's that bad:

https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/16eq1rp
The temporal issues with FSR are largely because the implementation is botched. LOD and mip bias are set incorrectly to resolution scale. DLSS replacers have largely addressed the problem by now but Special K and a LUT mod is still desired to get the best experience with this game.

It can definitely use more. Ive seen 9.5 GB VRAM; how this impacts perf I cant tell tho. System RAM about 11GB on 16GB system.

Sorry should have been clearer I was talking about VRAM a you’re absolutely right about RAM. I haven“t watched my CPU yet but I: sure you’re correct.

Yeah when I was running up Ultra I was just under 7GB Im sure there are situations where its using more(as he‘s running around Atlantis finding a seemingly endless stream of quests)
regardless none of those numbers point to why performance is as poor as it is

Nope correct. This is just how the game is going to be. I bet it checks numerous events and timers continuously for quest and actor states etc. A lot of it just is a constant clogging of the pipeline for anything you might need, I have little doubts here :)

The simple fact I barely lose perf against much more CPU grunt is telling.

Do you people think this game will get a update which will optimize performance further ?

Yes, I think there should be some big update coming soon that improves performance. The GPU voltage spikes alone need to be addressed.

As written above, i figured my cpu is bottlenecking. The game is very heavy on cpu, had to overclock my 5600x pretty agressively to achieve around %85 gpu usage on 6750xt.

Benchmark Scores None, but I think they'd be fairly decent.
Yes, I think there should be some big update coming soon that improves performance. The GPU voltage spikes alone need to be addressed.

No voltage spikes here.

Voltage spikes? Haven't seen them on the 6950xt...

I do not know why. This is a new PSU and handles all games just fine at even higher detail settings. The one thing I have found is that the fan blasts away even though the temps never get above 75. Perhaps the fan is drawing too much power? I have done stress tests and the GPU never goes above 225 watts draw. If I undervolt GPU and limit the FPS to 60 I do not get any complete power offs. The game runs fine.

the general shape is still a shieldbreaker but, it's a total different animal now  and it's the literal limit unless i use an build uncapper mod.

gotta love how detailed ship parts are ...

(new AMD driver, okay, no spikes )

odd, bog basic stock 3600 and i get 45% CPU with 95% GPU most of the time (aside in new atlantis but FPS is in the "still perfectly playable")

what res?

how do you know if the psu fan is running? sometimes i worry mine never kicks on, i have corsair rm850 psu, but there is no dust buildup on the dust filter at bottom of my case when i go to clean it once a month... not even a spec... worried its not turning on heh
