Yeah i would give myself a hernia trying to pick mine up. I have a RM850 too, and my filter has not a speck of dust on it either.

I love Corsair PSUs but the thing that bothers me about them is as far as I know the I series are the only ones where you can control the PSU fan. You could even see it in HWinfo64. Without that I do not believe there is a way to monitor the Fans on other Corsair PSUs.

Shame you cant link the fan in the PSU with the others in your case, but i guess there is no point the fan in the PSU revving up when it does not need to.

I do not know why. This is a new PSU and handles all games just fine at even higher detail settings. The one thing I have found is that the fan blasts away even though the temps never get above 75. Perhaps the fan is drawing too much power? I have done stress tests and the GPU never goes above 225 watts draw. If I undervolt GPU and limit the FPS to 60 I do not get any complete power offs. The game runs fine.
Maybe it’s a bad paste job and there’s a spot on the GPU getting way too hot?

That's hilarious... as easy as it might be to miss if you aren't paying attention (like me) it's still really funny how stars aren't properly rendered in a game literally called "Starfield".

Game seems to run pretty decently on my aging i7-4790. Hitting 60FPS everywhere is probably impossible with my setup but medium preset with a little FSR can hit it in most places, albeit not 100% consistently. I can't stand FSR and I play on pad so I just cranked everything up to ultra w/o any upscaling for an average of 40 something FPS.

That's not correct, the field of stars are all there in Starfield in those screencaps and in my game.

It's the Moon and Sun that aren't rendered in there, I'll check in my game to see.

Edit: Yep, no Moon in sky as shadows cast by it are clearly rendered in but there's no source in the opposite direction.

This probably explains why AMD cards are faster. the missing moon accounts for 20% boost in frame rate.

Well I know what you mean but the "sun" in Starfield are other stars, just like our beloved Sol

Still what a massive L and most people didn't even realize it

if you had not pointed it out, I would have never noticed, in fact I think I prefer the AMD screenshot of the moon one. it's more pleasant to look at.

its like that girl in college that told me later in life she liked me, but I never made a move cause I was too passive. if she had never pointed it out, I would have been oblivious and ignorance is bliss.

Btw, is anyone using ultrawide? Anyone get 5120x1440 to work? I saw there was a a way to hex edit it in etc but haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet.

i think i got fullscreen to work, but I am not sure.

then i set it to read only. and booted up. everything works fine. it didn't really change anything visually, more just a curious thing on my end since i think freesync only works in fullscreen, i thought maybe it would increase smoothness some on the fps drops.

So I tried the Frame Generation mod from LukeFZ (highly recommended):

1694405468.png

I'm honestly surprised at how little shimmering and artifacting there is even with frame generation on. No input lag to speak of either. Render latency low and smooth as butter. It's a must to play this if you have anything above 60 Hz. I was a skeptic but if even a makeshift implementation of DLSS-G can be this good, I think I'm finally sold on it. Hope FSR 3 delivers, the bar is high.

This goes for both of you guys, for best results you should play DirectX 12 games in borderless mode. Special K is very handy on this game, and I recommend downloading and using it. FreeSync should work correctly in windowed mode, so there's no need to run it in exclusive fullscreen, even if that setting works at all. It's quite deprecated.

yeah I already went back to regular borderless settings and removed the read only status. i couldn't tell a difference either way, so no reason to mess with it. :toast:

In case you wanted to know a few reasons on why Starfield is so unoptimized.

Vkd3d (the dx12->vulkan translation layer) developer has put up a change log for a new version that is about to be (released here) and also a pull request with more information about what he discovered about all the awful things that starfield is doing to GPU drivers (here).
Basically:
  1. Starfield allocates its memory incorrectly where it doesn't align to the CPU page size. If your GPU drivers are not robust against this, your game is going to crash at random times.
  2. Starfield abuses a dx12 feature called ExecuteIndirect. One of the things that this wants is some hints from the game so that the graphics driver knows what to expect. Since Starfield sends in bogus hints, the graphics drivers get caught off gaurd trying to process the data and end up making bubbles in the command queue. These bubbles mean the GPU has to stop what it's doing, double check the assumptions it made about the indirect execute and start over again.
  3. Starfield creates multiple `ExecuteIndirect` calls back to back instead of batching them meaning the problem above is compounded multiple times.
What really grinds my gears is the fact that the open source community has figured out and came up with workarounds to try to make this game run better. These workarounds are available to view by the public eye but Bethesda will most likely not care about fixing their broken engine. Instead they double down and claim their game is "optimized" if your hardware is new enough.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
ah, did not notice the stars and moon  (it's Nerevar's fault ... i bet) bah, still look good

also unoptimized? it run quite nice (and still not crashes, lockup or CTD) since day 0, i wonder how it will run once it's optimized then o_O

Yeah, I posted that thread here yesterday or so. It's such a mess!
well i wait to see the issues induced by these, because for sure aside 40ish fps at 100% RRS 70% sharpening FSR2 or moon and star ... it's smooth sailing. (shimmering? well a little but if not focusing on it : not a big problem :D although it would be nice if it was corrected later )

oh well since it's house show then (the ground house not the space mobilehome )

and for fun i tested ... well 1620p 50% RRS and FSR2 100% sharpening look ... not bad
