According to VideoCardz, we can look forward to Intel launching its next gen Core processor in the middle of next month, or at least some of them will launch then. As always when it comes to Intel and product launches, it appears to be a staggered launch, but this time around it's getting a bit strange. We checked with our sources to see if the proposed date by VideoCardz was indeed correct and were told that motherboards should be available later this month, largely due to Intel not offering a new chipset for the 14th Gen Core processors. This means the motherboard makers are free to launch their refreshed board for the the 14th Gen Core processors pretty much as they please.

The first CPUs that should launch are said to be the Core i9-14900K, Core i7-14700K and Core i5-14600K, as well as their KF counterparts. Advertising for these CPUs will kick off on the 16th of October followed by sales and reviews on the 17th of October, according to VideoCardz. The remaining Raptor Lake refresh CPUs are said to launch sometime in early 2024, most likely with a CES announcement followed by availability sometime in the first quarter. However, it appears that Intel will officially announce the Raptor Lake refresh processors during Intel Innovation 2023, which kicks off next week, on the 19th of September. Early performance leaks suggest that those with a recent CPU won't be overly tempted by these new chips from Intel and most consumers are better off waiting for Intel's move to a new socket next year, if they're looking at getting a new Intel based system.

Same number and type of P-cores (except for a small increase in L2 cache) across 12, 13 and 14 generations. That’s a deal breaker for me.

Wait for that... Whoever wants can simply buy the i9 13900k at a discount and increase the clock speed by 200mhz, that's it, there's your 14900k... Magic.

The 13900k overclocked by 200 mhz will probably consume close to 100w more than the 14900k at same clockspeeds. So yeah, not exactly practical

The 13900k overclocked by 200 mhz will probably consume close to 100w more than the 14900k at same clockspeeds. So yeah, not exactly practical
The 14900k is built on the same process. There is no magic there to make the 14th gen that much more efficient.

The 12900k is also built on the same process. Have you tried running it at 13900k clockspeeds?

They are different chips. You can make design adjustments to favor clockrate over density, and vice versa. The point is that as far as we know the 14900k is nothing more than 13900k with an increase in clockrate.

The ks was the same chip as the k but was much more efficient. I know I know, reviews claim otherwise, but reviews aren't reality. I've seen people match the 13900k clockspeeds with 50-60w lower power draw in gaming. The 14900k will be a KS on steroids.

No magic just increase cache, better bin and better memory controller for memory overclock. that about that
Leaked specs say the memory controller is still the same so nothing new over 13th gen.

Sure, like every 13th gen have the same memory controller, like the ks also have the same very same memory controller..... the scale for memory controller have nothing to do with the generation since the launch on socket 1700. But with the quality bin to bin of each cpu. Even between same model on the same batch.
My experience with Apex z690 > MSI unify X > Apex z790
12900k = barely did ddr5 6600 stable
12900ks = 6800 stable
13900k = 7600 stable
13900ks = 8000 stable

but, if you buy a non overclock motherboard just to turn on xmp with cheap memory kits.... you right... is all the same

That's definitely below average for 12th gen. My 12900k does 7000

but also my APEX Z690 was mess up.
Mine as well, couldn't do 5800 1T. Got a unisex instead, does 7600. Maybe more, dunno, IMC might be my wall right now.

It looks like the 14900k will use a lot less electricity because will be 7nm instead of 10nm on 13900k. I guess we will have to wait and see but if I can get a 13900k performance using the same or close electricity watts as Ryzen 7950x then I'm on, to buy me out Intel needs to deliver greater performance than AMD and give me less energy watt usage than AMD which has not been the case in years. AMD is at 5nm at moment, Intel with 14900k is at 7nm, lets hope soon will be 3nm amd x 3nm intel.

I'm not aware of what you're talking about... from what I've read it will be manufactured on Intel 7 = 10nm+ with a new name to make it sound better. What matters is that it is the same manufacturing process as the i9 13900k.

Intel renamed 10 nm to Intel 7 which is alright as it's closer to TSMC's N7 than N10. This is the same process that has been used since Cannon Lake. During that time, it has been improved a lot, but those improvements have been in transistor speed and power efficiency. The dimensions of the process are the same as they were in 2018. In fact, starting from Tiger Lake, gate pitch was increased in order to increase drive current. Therefore, it's extremely unlikely that the 14900k will be significantly more efficient than the 13900k. However, both the 7950X and the 13900k aren't about efficiency; they are focused on extracting the most performance at the cost of power consumption.

The 14900K is not MeteorLake, it is Raptor-Lake Refresh. Apparently, the Meteor Lake architecture will only be used in CPUs for notebooks, marking the name change to "Core Ultra".

Yeah but that's Alder Lake and it was an older CPU architecture, it was physically different, on the other hand the 13th and 14th gen are both Raptor Lake with no physical changes and they are even the same stepping (B0), they just retired the 6P+8E configuration for the i5-14600K and replaced it with an 8P+8E identical to what is found on the i7-13700K today, enabled an extra E-cluster core for 8P+12E for the i7-14700K (obvious value king this gen), and the 14900K has received no improvements and no extra cores, the clocks are 1:1 to the i9-13900KS (so a 200 MHz bump from the i9-13900K on average).

It's a "generation" in every sense of the word, it's just something to tell Intel shareholders that they released something this year. With Meteor Lake-S on desktop all but cancelled, Intel doesn't have any product to release this year. Essentially, if you purchased a i9-13900KS earlier this year, it was an early access 14900K, that's about it :)

I do not believe 14900K's will clock any better than 13900KS does, that remains to be seen of course but the preliminary benchmarks seem to place it identical in single-thread and slower in multi-thread (because it comes with the standard power limit instead of the 150W-type extended PL the 12900KS and 13900KS have). With this in mind, an eventual i9-14900KS seems particularly unlikely to be released, as they'd need to at least offer 6.2 GHz target and as we all know, it's inoperable without exotic cooling and heavy overvoltage even on the 13900KS.

okay thanks, everybody talking about Meteor lake, I really thought the 14900k was it. So the idea is wait for 15900k then and likely will also come with a new platform.
