First, an enormous thank you to all of you playing Starfield and your support. We are absolutely blown away by the response and all you love about the game. We're also reading all your great feedback on what you'd like to see improved or added to the game. This is a game we'll be supporting for years and years to come, so please keep all the feedback coming! Even if we don't get to your requests immediately, we'd love to do it in the future, like city maps. Our priority initially is making sure any top blocker bugs or stability issues are addressed, and adding quality-of-life features that many are asking for.

This first update is a small hotfix targeted at the few top issues were are seeing. After that, expect a regular interval of updates that have top community requested features including:
  • Brightness and Contrast controls
  • HDR Calibration Menu
  • FOV Slider
  • Nvidia DLSS Support (PC)
  • 32:9 Ultrawide Monitor Support (PC)
  • Eat button for food!

We're also working closely with Nvidia, AMD, and Intel on driver support, and each update will include new stability and performance improvements.

Additionally, we are working on our built-in mod support (Creations) that will work across all platforms similar to what we've done with Skyrim and Fallout 4. This full support is planned to launch early next year. Until then, we know our PC community is already very active in the modding space and if you have any feedback on how we can make this better, please let us know. Modding and creating in our games will always be a vital and important part of who we are, and we love seeing the community get off to such a strong start.

Keep the feedback coming, we really do read it all, and thank you all again for taking this journey with us!

Update Version 1.7.29 - Fixes and Improvements

Performance and Stability
Xbox Series X|S Improved stability related to installations.
Various stability and performance improvements to reduce crashes and improve framerate.

Quests
All That Money Can Buy: Fixed an issue where player activity could result in a quest blocker.
Into the Unknown: Fixed an issue that could prevent the quest from appearing after the game is completed.
Shadows in Neon: Fixed an issue where player activity could result in a quest blocker.

That stuff really should have been in there before the game went Gold. This proves the game was rushed for some crappy deadline and it ruined customer experience. Anyone would have waited one more quarter for more polish and basic functions of the game.

Yes the game is missing some very basic settings and features, but I'm having a good time with it. The game is surprisingly stable (at least for me), haven't encountered any game breaking bugs and only 1 crash with about ~20 hrs playtime.

Then they would have found other things "that should have been there". Projects like this are never entirely completely finished.

The point is that most AAA games on PC release with all of the bullet points from the blog post. These are table stakes for launch day.

The eat food button: okay that's a post-launch luxury, fine.

Hmmm no performance improvements mentioned other than some PR boilerplate and adding Nvidia's crutch to match AMD's.

Maybe next update...

I rather have a stable release than a release with HDR calibration if I'm being honest.

I enjoy conspiracy theories. And at this point i think devs are releasing games in this state on purpose. To get a lot of media and YT clicks and drama. The things they "fixed" in this patch were fixed by random people in their free time. A company with hundreds of employees could fix those things in a fews hours.

Not when those hundreds of employees has work to do and are organized in teams, not all of which has anything to do with say DLSS. Sure a digital artist may not be drowning in work, but can they implement a FOV slider?

The current situation is games that are anticipated to get out the gate in beta stages with bugs that even ruin the gameplay. Starfield came out in a better shape that many where expecting.

I understand the shape of the game was better than other Bethesda games but look at Baulders Gate. They pushed it back and did the quality, the game will be GOTY.

I won't buy Starfield now as i have other games i play. But as a customer on the PC platform, it's not my problem who is doing what at Bethesda, if the cleaning lady can turn the FOV option on, i want it in game day 0. And it applys to any PC game release.

I'm just being realistic. Are you doing that kind of thing at your job? If the sales people aren't meeting their goals, do you pitch in?

Only about 1000 bug fixes in the first patch for BG was some going.

I am a customer, i don't care who has to do what to get me my product or the service i am paying for. And that is why i rarely buy games at launch. I am not paying 60$ so that i need to fix my own game by waiting for other people to make mods, for free in their free time.

I still do not get why they decided to go with yet another round of bolting more stuff onto an engine from twenty years ago. The game's performance, or lack thereof, is heavily reminiscent of what happens when you have a whole bunch of mods in Skyrim or Morrowind which, at least to me, suggests that they have done a poor job of spreading the game load onto multiple threads. This conclusion is also supported by the way that the game's performance has a very strong correlation with single-core performance, with CPUs like the 7600X and 13600K being very close to, and in AMD's case besting, the performance of the top-of-the-line CPUs in their respective architectures.

The game is very polished, I've been playing for 110hrs now without 1 crash. The last time I've played any game that long without 1 crash was over 6yrs ago. The only thing missing where just minor small things, so I dont know where you get this "proves the game was rushed for some crappy deadline blah blah blah blah".

And they only did it because they saw modders asking for money. NO ONE should have money from DLSS but them!

Honestly, everything they want to bring with that upcoming patch or patches is basic functionality that should've been there from the start.
