You keep saying you're sorry, yet you continue to insist the textures I'm seeing at the res scale I'm using are fine, and that FPS WELL below 40 are plenty playable. So I have to ask, are you actually implying I can't tell when outdoor firefights and dog fights are feeling laggy, or when textures look bad to me?

I'm getting kind of tired of repeating myself. I've had days in the past where I stretched the use of my hardware well into and below the 30 FPS range, so I'm very familiar with that. Now that I'm 65 and have slower reflexes lowered dexterity, and worse vision, I don't care to go there anymore. If you don't believe that I'm experiencing enough lag to adversely affect my combat and enjoyment of the game, not to mention the visual aspects being less than desireable, the discussion starts feeling pointless.

Yeah some of the guides you see on YT definitely need to be updated. For instance a fairly good guide I watched on how to get a decent amount of credits, powerful weapons, and a nice ship early on, stated the Trade Authority will let you sell then buy back stolen items at the same price. That's not at all true anymore, so obviously based on a pre release copy.

I didn't need the guide for the ship because I'd already just done that quest, and I actually found the Gal Bank theft to be easier than he implied for leveling up Security. His tip for stealing the powerful weapon is both useful and amusing though. Overall it's a pretty decent game as far as gameplay goes, I just hope they can make it perform better and more stable.
I believe it is still possible in the well.

Bedsides the stupid bug with into the unknown mission, the game has been very stable, no crashes to report on Xbox, performance isn't good though, it can get very slow at times but it doesn't really bother me that much.

I'm not a huge fan of the space combat in this game, but I love about 90% of the rest of the game, so my plan is to use this little exploit I linked before HERE, to just get enough credits to buy me the overpowered ship they sale in Akila City, forget the name of it, but its like 300-400k credits, but it has maximum allowed shields. If the combat for space was more fun or like proper space games, I wouldn't bother doing this, but its just one element of the game I don't want to have to keep bothering with, just keep my shields at max, missiles at max, and grav drive at max, so if i hit areas that simply are not worth my time or fights I can zoom away easily. Once this ship is paid off though, not going to bother farming anymore. It's more or less just to make the game more fun for me, it really is surprising to me they didn't look at proper space games and try to mimic that combat, its not horrible, but it just isn't for me. That being said, I will still keep enjoying the rest of the game.

The rest? Memorable, certainly not. Decent and 'another thing in the franchise', sure. Starfield for example... its mediocre at best, does the thing we already knew for ages, and doesn't fail miserably at it... but memorable? Not in the slightest, in fact there's numerous things that just don't make sense and/or are shortcuts in game design.

Can you give some examples of those shortcuts?

Anyone know if the autocannon's you can buy as a ship upgrade are actually auto firing or do I still have to press a button for them to use in combat? they are expensive... so I would assume auto means auto but eh

Automatic docking, cutscenes for landing, lots of loading screens... No real activity in space other than filler with no function, planets are interchangeable... locations are limited in scope... there is just a lot of repetition in the game... etc

Yeah after testing further some items DO seem to sell at same price they're bought for, but it's not exclusive to the Well.

Does anyone else think that ship building is a real PITA? Also, adding ship modules to existing ships is not intuitive.

I find it quite intuitive, although things really ought to have been explained properly the first time you open the build UI. Still, YouTube will teach you everything you need to know.

When you get down to building your own thing from scratch you'll quickly start noticing how limited it is, was my take.

If they really bug you, almost all the limits can be easily removed by some small mods. Size, reactor limits, shield limits, etc, etc.

Why is half the Structural category different every time anyway, I don't get it.

Most likely because certain parts will only fit onto certain hardpoints/connectors. If you use the mouse cursor to highlight the connector you want something to connect to and press G, only modules which can fit onto that hardpoint/connector will show up.

Anyone know if the autocannon's you can buy as a ship upgrade are actually auto firing or do I still have to press a button for them to use in combat? they are expensive... so I would assume auto means auto but eh

Yes, they will auto-fire.

will they rotate and fire from the side, or only the direction I place them on my ship? if you press Z on keyboard you can rotate their aim in Ship Builder mode... I am considering placing them facing to the sides, so as I make maneuvers they fire automatically on ships trying to pass me, or best to just have all weapons pointed straight?

Honestly I'm not entirely sure, which is why I have turrets facing both forwards and backwards. They certainly fire in a ~180 degree arc, but beyond that I can't swear to anything.

What I can say is that once you can build C-grade turrets, you can really dispense with missiles. While the latter reach a bit farther the difference isn't huge and a few good turrets will make short process of anything coming your way. Get one or two EM weapons instead, in case you run into a ship you'd like to take over.

Anyone still playing this game? :D

This right there is true Fallout and Skyrim successor. :D
After you beat the main story line, it gets boring. I stopped at 110hrs.

They fire automatically but not forward. I have 2 forward firing and 1 auto turret, I might try 2 or 3 auto turrets once I play again in the future.

to be fair even if you only enjoyed 80 hours of that 110, that's pretty decent value. going to movie theater costs like 30 bucks these days, and it only nets you 2 hours of entertainment.

Very decent value I'd say, compared to just about anything these days.

As for the turrets, they certainly do fire forwards automatically. At least they do on my ship.

Did you choose Starborn or not? Going Starborn route is harder but you can play completely differently.

Re. turrets again, I happened across this just now (on Gamerant):

"Instead of manually pulling the trigger, players don't have to do anything at all for turrets to do their magic. They will constantly scan the surroundings and engage any hostile fighter that comes within range. With that said, it's very important to take note of a turret's effective range, line of sight, and its orientation relative to the ship.
....
Turrets are best placed on the tail-end of a ship where they can cover the rear from would-be attackers. This prevents players from being completely defenseless when they're getting tailed, giving them a better opportunity to shake off pursuers and possibly destroy them in the process.

It can be hard to notice if a turret is shooting or not. Even when enemies are very close, turrets may sometimes not shoot at all. It's unknown if this is a bug with the targeting system, but turrets do attack hostiles that are within range, even if they do it somewhat unreliably.

Because of this potential targeting issue, it's best to have other weapon systems mounted onto a ship and treat turrets simply as support platforms.
"

I haven't seen mine refuse to fire I think, but then I've not been in a lot of dog fights either. It seems that having turrets pointing both forwards and aft is a must though.

After you beat the main story line, it gets boring. I stopped at 110hrs.

I wouldn't say that, but... (absolutely game ruining spoilers if you didn't finish the main quest, just DON'T open if you haven't)

That's why they added the transcendence/NG+ mechanics.

Stepping into the Unity removes all inventory, credits and resets quest progress, awarding you an increasingly powerful Starborn ship and spacesuit, higher ranks for powers, new Starborn dialog options and ways to resolve quests with each subsequent playthrough. It also unlocks a few unusual Starborn-exclusive random encounters, for example, I've come across a charming woman on an unusual ship called "The Trader", turns out she is a Starborn legendary gear merchant.

Seems that to reach level 100, you are probably going to need at least 5 full playthroughs of the game. Each subsequent playthrough is going to have a slightly different main quest organization, and whether you opt to replay the entire storyline or come clean to Constellation about your Starborn nature and the success of the group's mission in your original world will have a direct impact on the fate of your companions. The choices you make will also change the true identity of The Emissary - as I understand, the original identity of The Hunter will always be Keeper Aquilus, the Sanctum Universum priest, who had always been Starborn himself.

If during your original playthrough you stayed to defend the artifacts during The Hunter's onslaught in "A High Price to Pay", Sarah Morgan will be killed in the Eye station and assume the identity of the Emissary from another universe, similarly if you ran off to her rescue, the same will occur to Sam Coe. This remains constant even if you married either of them, which comes as a bit of a very insensitive shock the first time that you play the game - your wife/hubby literally just died and they're having you work a ton of things at once, and depending on whether you joined UC Vanguard earlier or not, even dealing with this loss as you're subject to UC SysDef's extortion - having you working for them as an agent in exchange for cutting you loose after robbing Petrov.

In my Playthrough 2, I skipped the main story by telling Constellation about the nature of the Armillary. I never met Sam Coe or Andreja, who was the Emissary in this universe. Now I'm on Playthrough 3 and I decided to play along the main story this time around, I suspect it will be closer in nature to the original because of the mechanics I've just explained.

I've been watching my son play this game and he really enjoys it, but does think it's tedious.

So I have to ask, are you actually implying I can't tell when outdoor firefights and dog fights are feeling laggy, or when textures look bad to me?
No, at this point I'm just trying to avoid arguing. I've offended you and didn't mean too.

it can def be frustrating at times, but it usually makes up for it with some surprise fun quests and such. when I think a quest is going to be linear, I am sometimes caught off guard how it goes down or the options it presents me, lot of variety too the more you get in... I am level 21, but done a lot of side quests and not so much the main story.

hopefully he continues to like it.

Did you choose Starborn or not? Going Starborn route is harder but you can play completely differently.
to me the main story unity is just for rebooting when i exhausted everything possible.
and since you keep all level and power : it make it easier imho
but the losses/changes it induce (not only outpost/inventory wipe) are not worth it to me

i did Skyrim main quest only once in 6000+ hours  and only because it did not significate the end of the game actual world.

Now I'm on Playthrough 3 and I decided to play along the main story this time around, I suspect it will be closer in nature to the original because of the mechanics I've just explained.
well ... about that spoiler ... you can get to 100 without NG+ ... it's harder tho :D

it's maybe because i am not a fan of parallel/multi universe that i find the main story and NG+ boring

I'm enjoying the main story quite a bit, although I'm in no hurry to complete it. Lots of good side quests too in my opinion, with very decent voice acting and interesting plots. If only the faces had been had been better and more expressive, but I guess that's Creation Engine for you. And of course there's lots of pew-pew to be had.

If they would done everything right, then there would be no place for mods... :D

Done right or done wrong doesn't enter into it, there's ALWAYS a place for mods.
