I just finished a series in Forza Motorsport 7 and I can say this made me remember the Racing Game that I can't name that was from Microsoft that started you with a BMW 3 series car. I wish I could remember the name of that Game but it pre dated Forza.

Right now i am about to play and finish the Kaido Battle Series.

Racing games i played:

- Need for Speed, started with hot pursuit 2, Prostreet is my favorite part.
- Tokyo Xtreme Racer/ Shutokou Battle / Import Tuner Challenge
- Blur, happy that it got released, sad that they couldn't finish the second one.
- Juiced, love the bet and race system in the first, hated the second.
- World Racing, 1st got me into trance music, bought the second when it released on steam, long time i had really fun with a racing game.
- Burnout Revenge
- Forza Motorsport 4 & Horizon Series, they should fix their goddamn car models.
- Gran Turismo 2,4,6
- Dirt, Grid and TOCA series, last good games were Dirt Rally and Grid Autosport.
- Enthusia
- Test Drive Unlimited, ps2 version is the best. also it inspired the crew with the finding of wrecks as an example.
- Midnight Club 2, 3 and LA, 2nd best part and also got me into trance.
- Lotus Challenge (2001)
- Flatout/Wreckfest, my favorite for banger racing
- Mario Kart, especially DS for the story mode, Double Dash for the special items, Wii/7/8 for the gameplay.
- V Rally 3
- Ridge Racer 7/Unbounded
- Micro Machines
- Toybox Turbo
- Hot Wheels Unleashed
- Assetto Corsa
- F1 2020, not a bug fan of the genre but i enjoyed 2020
- Trackmania, that game helped me to shape my racing line as a kid. still the greatest time attack mode.
- Project Cars 1 & 2
- Moto Racer 4
- Street Legal Racing Redline
- GT Legends
- Burnin Rubber 5 ... best game for shitty computer.
That pretty much covers it lol.

Underground is also fine, yet I hate its "rubber band effect" on the CPU opponents' cars.
I never really liked Underground. Cars felt and sounded weird in it, and the tracks looked all the same. It was like a beta for Underground 2, which is probably the best game in the series, right next to Most Wanted 2005, imo.

Midtown Madness.
Also Monster Truck Madness and Motocross Madness.

I’ve been into racing since Test Drive on C64. Then GT on PS always with a wheel tho I think PS3 GTs were my last.
Now I have sim raced for years have all the popular ones n my library and founded one of the largest Sim Racing communities of the day(Sim Junkies)
But I have to say the game that pushed all my buttons was TDU. The attention to details for each car(with a wheel if it was stick it was stick, autos were auto etc the variety of amazing cars. if ONLY they had gotten the actual roads right, tho that provided its own challenge. Forza Horizon would be its closest spiritual successor and I play FH5 often.I’m very curious about the upcoming Teat Drive and hope it can live up to the hole FH has filled.

Most time would be Granturismo , especially 3/4.

And Dirt 3

Obviously I do play many others, but most time played and enjoyed are those 3

Very hard choice since most of those have over a hundred hours played minimum, hard choices.

NFS Porsche Unleashed is definitely at the top of my list. Played many racing games afterwards, but nothing really came close to it in getting right the balance between realism and "arcadiness".
And if you have a decent racing wheel and like realism, then GRID or DIRT.

Another one for me would of been Sports Car GT, not really liked any others since.

Also Monster Truck Madness and Motocross Madness.
Motocross was my favourite of the Madness ones. I rarely actually raced, I just zoomed around the relatively open world map doing jumps and tricks, and riding up the cliff at the edge of the map so I could get shotgun blasted back into the map.

When I was younger I played nearly every racing/driving game out there but my favourite series was Colin McRae Rally.

Dirt was ok, dirt 2 and the rest of them quite ridiculous. Dirt rally and 2 are great but I don’t play racing games anymore.
I haven’t played any WRC game for long and cannot tell if they are good.

I was thinking of jumping in again trying the new WRC game from EA/Codemasters but we’ll see.

Benchmark Scores I've actually never benched it!! Too busy with WCG and FAH and not gaming! :( :( Not OC'd it!! :(
I saw the thread and thought well, I don't think there's one particular racing game I'd say I like/love, more like a 100.... But to name a few....

F1 (Amiga)
Indyheat (Amiga)
Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 and 3 (Amiga)
Mario Kart (SNES)
Microprose Formula One Grandprix (Amiga)
Micro Machines (Amiga)
Revolt
Skidmarks and Super Skidmarks !! (Amiga)
Virtual Racing (Sega 32X)

As for any other platform... The list goes on....

Colin McRae series and then Dirt
Driver - The original on the PS1 was ground breaking in my opinion, such amazing car control...
F1 Race Stars
Flatout Series
Fuel
GTA
Lego Racers
Midnight Club 2
Need for Speed series back in the days of Underground and Carbon
Sega Rally

Then games like

Forza Horizon the original and the rest of the series Xbox 360 and on...
Midnight Club PS3
Mario Kart 8

I'm sure there's more in my Steam library and some with the other consoles I've here... Such a great genre of games :) Apologies!

Totally agree on that one. Most tracks were just modifications or mirror versions of older tracks, though at least you had learned those already pretty much when going though the underground mode, so a "new" track was easy to get a hang of.

From the top of my head:

Call of Duty (2003)/United Offensive (2004)
Battlefield 2 (2005)
Guildwars 1 (2005)

All three games I must have sunk around 8-10k hours or more in each of these games individually. Especially the first call of duty and battlefield. I'd finish a 13hr night shift and I'd still load into a game while eating a peice of toast and a cup of tea for two hours and play before I was just too pooped and either fell asleep in front of the PC or shut off and went to bed.
How are they racing games?

Need 4 Speed 2 SE on Voodoo graphics: for two players on one PC / split screen mode, mighty fine.

Geoff Crammonds GP3/GP4 for sure as far as all time goes. (Gp2 in there too, but 3-4 were pretty much the same game but shinier) Nice modding too, used to have multiple instances of the game(s) installed with different F1 seasons

Nowdays I do enjoy FH5 but its too flawed to call it a great game and the developer has been releasing new ones with the exact same problems as the old ones and next to 0 improvements. EA sports would be proud. Atrocious multiplayer too, 0 penalizing for bad driving and often horrible 2-3min loading between races (i assume its due to hdd based console matchups, either that or netcode go brrr)

I like GT7 too but hot damn the amount of time required to get enough money to buy the shiny cars is absurd so I don't really play it any more (tho i do really like the core gameplay - super grindy service game crap aside)

@unwind-protect

You don't have a frame of reference for how fast this is but that is the fastest recorded run for that track right now. I can go fast but some people out there are unreal.
