I've been using the same glass desk for the past 15 years with no issues. After using some window cleaner it looks as good as the day I bought it. I can't say that about any wood furniture I've owned.

Gosh it's almost like a well designed piece of equipment with a user who has an IQ above room temperature will last :p

Jokes aside tempered glass gets way too much flak for being fragile - it's an extremely strong material when applied in the right way.

Not good for soldering or using tools tho. I mean it's a PC desk sure but mine is usually full of tools and electronic components like right now there's a power supply, light, soldering iron, pump, screwdrivers and a radio I'm trying to fix lol

Your main PC desk? :fear:

Nothing else is allowed on my PC desk - but to be fair, it is only 18 inches wide.

My only PC desk :D 36"

I have a workshop but don't want to use it for something as simple as a radio. I keep some basic tools and gizmos in the drawers just in case, cheap or homemade ones.

Or even glass like those used for windshields so the shards won't explode everywhere.
That would be two panes of glass with a plastic between them. You can get a similar, though not quite as good result, if you put tint on the glass.

Swap a perfectly sized piece of ptge clear plastic in it and move on, it won't break again either, I have done this a few times for people.

@bug I sit my main rig on a three drawers metal cabinet drawer with bonus lockability for loot and crack, next to my desk.

Obv jk on crack.:p

The tragedy of the tempered glass desks. One probably shouldn't put heavy objects on a pane of glass.

Damn, that's tragic. I've had too many tempered glass bowls, plates, and French presses suddenly go boom for me to trust a tempered glass table with anything important.

We live near some train tracks, and because of that our house experiences seismic activity usually every couple of hours. I had a glass TV stand with a nice LG on it that also had a glass face. The stand was rated to hold the weight, until one fateful morning shortly after 3am the house must have had some good bounce to it because that stand shattered, and my TV was destroyed. No more glass stuff holding heavy objects now :)

Tragic :(

Tragic as it may be, can we keep this topic updated with more glorious pictures of glass Darwin moves?

This has potential to rival the Ghetto Mods topic in entertainment value!

@nguyen I'm in the same boat, but my 1080ti, even overclocked just doesn't cut it anymore in AAA games. Sam's Story, the DLC for Metro:Exodus just kills my 1080ti, even at 1440p. As for the 4090ti, I shudder to think how much that's going to cost.

I'll never buy a case with a glass side panel -- it's acrylic all the way for me.

Kinda curious as to options for replacement. My Fractal Define G has a window, but it's Acrylic.
Sure, it won't shatter, but it fogs and scratches just from looking at it funny.
Any suggestions on a semi-drop-in replacement? (Preferably, with metallic tinting)

if nvidia release the 4090ti its gonna be around 2k and maybe another 8 months we might see the rtx 50 series
just like the 3090ti 6 months later the 40series came out the 4070ti with comparable performance at 1080p and 1440p @ half the price
dunno what nvidia is gonna do since its 40 series gpu is not flying off the shelves they might hold back on production and go into 50 series and rethink their pricing (hopefully)

I used a sheet of Petg.

It's harder, clearer and not glass and cuts well.

What happened? Came it out of the box like that or did it pop when you put the panel on your stone floor?

Tell me about it, I build PCs for a living, never broke one and my first TG case it breaks. It has to do with Corsair's stupid mounting system that takes A LOT OF FORCE to pull them out and there's a chance of bending the glass badly!

They are using thumbscrews and pins to hold them in... just use idk foam to isolate the glass instead of requiring more force than gravitational force of the moon?

Try an RMA. They can never prove the glass wasn't already damaged somewhere, and fck them anyway for designing something as shabby as this.

I've handled a few TG cases and some are designed like ass. Fractal's pretty good at it. Many of the rest? Hit/miss.
I'm staying far away from TG in the future though, the advantage is zero, it doesn't transfer heat as well as steel, and dust accumulates on the window anyway so its like a constant OCD magnet. I went back to the black box called Define R4 and its an absolute blessing.

Gosh it's almost like a well designed piece of equipment with a user who has an IQ above room temperature will last :p

Jokes aside tempered glass gets way too much flak for being fragile - it's an extremely strong material when applied in the right way.
Agreed, its just that unholy combo of commerce + copycats + TG that fails.
But that kinda radiates over the entire industry that way. I mean, its like a constant avoiding of turds while walking on the green TG grass.

But at the same time... its glass. Plastic is better. Steel is better. Wood is better. Its just that simple. The only reason we 'want' glass is because it is transparent and shiny.

plastic and acrylic get scratched, that's the reason for glass, tempered because normal glass is too fragile. I have had my glass panel on and off a lot, it's been on the floor too with no problems. How does one bend a TPG panel enough to break it, if done fitting it or taking it off then you are doing something wrong as i am sure it would take a fair bit of force.

I have a 7000D, is the mount on the 5000 not the same? never had a problem with swinging the door on mine open, or taking the door off and on.
Well, 5000D doesn't swing out so no the mount is entirely different.

I rma'd but they said the second time will be chargeable.
I then went to remove the locking seat that the pins sit in
plastic and acrylic get scratched, that's the reason for glass, tempered because normal glass is too fragile. I have had my glass panel on and off a lot, it's been on the floor too with no problems. How does one bend a TPG panel enough to break it, if done fitting it or taking it off then you are doing something wrong as i am sure it would take a fair bit of force.
Too much static force holding the panel in does it.
Like I said, I've worked with plenty of cases and the Corsair mount is not only redundant but also dangerous

The swing out mount or the other one?

Nothing wrong with glass panels, i guess you need to be more careful with them though.

Eh, glass and water... Two things I can live without around my electronics.
