are we allowed to post amazon links?

basically looking for ram for a new ryzen build. cheapest sets on amazon. I have a few in mind. dont care for the fastest or "best" its a never ending game and rabbit hole if you keep getting something a "bit better". looking to spend max $55 for 2 sticks

maybe this motherboard asus Prime B450M-A II

2x16gb sticks. maybe later add another 2 sticks.

for a bit of gaming, video editing, affinity and capture 1 photo editing for sure.

havent decided cpu. will most likely get 5600x then maybe buy a used 9 chip later. who knows. right now 5600x.

nvme 1tb for main and 2tb for 2nd

This is a recipe for headaches. Even with a golden CPU, running 4x16G sticks at XMP will be hard on flagship motherboards.

i have a 4000cl18 kit that goes for $67 you are able to tighten the timing a little but not much compared to other kits.
Newegg ram kit
I'm able to get the timings to: 18-21-21-21-29, stock: 18-22-22-22-42

Well the OP did say cheap, the best stuff was never cheap, I recently got 2x32gig sticks for under £100, great prices right now, yes its low end stuff, but for the purpose I am using it for is fine.

In truth I actually think I was played for a mug when I got my B die, was really expensive and due to IMC, board bottlenecks or whatever I have never managed to get it over 3200mhz, so basically paid double price for ram to run tighter timings lol.

When the day comes I get DDR5, I wont be paying that premium again.

If you’re eventually going to want 64gb, just do it now. DDR4 is probably the cheapest it’s ever going to be.
^^THIS^^

The current, bottom barrel prices aren't gonna last much longer, since DDR4 production will soon be cut way back, and then Supply goes down, demand goes up (or at least stays the same for while), and prices...well, they escalate very, very quickly :(

I've been buyin up ALOT of 64 & 128GB kits (and Gen 4 m.2's too!) lately for my client builds that are coming up in the next few months, cause I know if I wait until the builds are actually in progress, it will probably cost me considerably more $$, which I will have to pass on to said clients, which won't make them very happy at all...

I have actually considered bumping my ram in this system , replacing the B die with a new 2 stick 64 gig kit, and have been stuck in two minds.

On one side is its I dont want to spend anything more on DDR4, and a big reason i stuck with Intel was to avoid replacing the ram.

But since upgrading windows, and playing spice wars as well, I have found 32 gigs is starting to feel like what 16 gigs used to be. Spice wars has a memory leak and firefox is now consuming 4 gigs just to fire it up (leave it up a day and its consuming 8 gigs), windows needs 8 gigs to just boot to desktop, I dont like closing a browser down to play a game, so find myself watching the virtual memory utilisation again to avoid OOM instability. Thought those days were behind me when I upgraded to 32 gigs.

Ultimately I probably wont replace the ram despite its current very low pricing, but its interesting I have had these doubts.

Also i know my memory usage reported figures are pretty insane, not quite sure whats going on, I know nvidia drivers are part of it, when I uninstalled them windows only needed 4 gigs to boot to desktop, so simply installing nvidia drivers alone adds 4 gig to memory commit to sit on the desktop, system informer has a nice tool which shows the commit per app, it shows right now e.g. 16.64gigs commit (firefox and various small apps open), however adding up the listed apps barely hits 10 gig, there is 6 gigs of commit not accounted for, which suggests drivers or something else under the kernel process. The biggest process 4.99 gig firefox, the next biggest under a gig. Spice wars needs 6 gigs to launch and will grow approximately 1 gig every hour of play time.

never heard that was a thing. but I dont know much obviously. I thought you chose ram based on the ddr you need like dd4..I guess not

im buying a cheapo b450MB https://www.newegg.com/asus-prime-b450m-a-ii/p/N82E16813119355?Item=N82E16813119355
they dont offer that international. theres no price.

I dont think theyll be a problem to get another 2x16 in a year or so? maybe even used.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

these are the sticks im looking at with a quick search:

Patriot Viper Elite II 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Desktop Memory Model PVE2432G266C6K $54

Silicon Power DDR4 32GB (2x16GB) Turbine 3200MHz (PC4 25600) 288-pin CL16 1.35V UDIMM Desktop Memory Module RAM - Low Voltage (SP032GXLZU320BDA) $60

G.SKILL AEGIS Series DDR4 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 2666MT/s CL19-19-19-43 1.20V Desktop Computer Memory UDIMM (F4-2666C19D-32GIS) $65

Patriot Memory Signature Premium DDR4 32GB (2x16GB) 2666MHz (PC4-21300) UDIMM Kit with Heatshield PSP432G2666KH1 $56

Crucial Pro RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MT/s (or 3000MT/s or 2666MT/s) Desktop Memory CP2K16G4DFRA32A $62

I prefer something with a low heatsink os no clearance issues. no rgb is preferred. thanks in advance

Getting them, in a year or so, probably won't be an issue, it's how much $$ they gonna cost ya that will/may be of concern...

After that, the prices will only continue to rise even further, as production & supply will continue to fall off :D

You only want to run a set of 4 if they came in the same kit. Otherwise they can lead to host a problems.

Even so, I don't suggest it and a lot of the people don't suggest running four sticks either. You're always asking for trouble honestly

do I really need 64gb? I guess if Im building a workstation for some heavy video editing, perhaps. but I think 32gb will be fine. im not a heavy gamer, or game the mainstream games anyway that need tons of storage and power. the mobo I linked above says it supports 128gb but thats just nuts and im guessing thats 4 sticks, no?

@inquisitor1 nope, you don't need 64GB, just it costs the same as 32GB and it's dual-rank too.

If you can find 32GB for $75 great. If it's $100, look at the timing and if you aren't going for b-die CL14, DDR4-3600 CL18 is good enough. Same price and timings, grab 64GB is all I'm saying.

Edit: I see you only want to spend $55 on memory. So ignore what I'm saying. Well outside your price range.

I only suggested that you go for 64GB now rather than later because in your original post you said:
2x16gb sticks. maybe later add another 2 sticks.

As @ir_cow pointed out, you'll be better off running a matched 2x32GB set rather than an unmatched 4x16GB set if eventually you want/need 64GB.

I'd agree that 32GB is perfectly fine for the majority of people. Normally the only people who need 64GB are those that know why they need it.

Honestly.. I have been running 4 sticks of B-Die since I moved to AM4 in 2020, and have had 0 problems.

I see people running all sorts of chips and have nothing but problems.. so to me B-Die is the best :)

Prices are at rock bottom ATM, but are set to rise soon, as the mfgr's have mostly resolved their pandemic-era over-production/excess inventory issues of DDR4 ram & Gen 4 m.2's, and are beginning to slow down/redirect their production of them, in favor of gen 5 parts.....

This is when the old "Supply & Demand" principle from Capitalism 101 starts to kick in :)

Just check the price histories on the parts you want, & you will see the curve that started as "normal" before the pandemic hit, went bat-shit crazy during the pandemic, and is currently well below what was considered normal in 2021...

Ex: I bought a 1TB WD Black last February for a client build, which cost me ~$160....that same drive now can be easily found for ~$50, and the 2TB version is currently going for just over $100, hell, even the 4TB models are quickly approaching the $200-225 point :)

That 3200 is probably at XMP since 1.35V, if it wont run xmp the actual speed might be 2133. If you want to run 3200 at stock or without changing any settings and gaunteed have to see if it says 1.2V, this will be plug and play JEDEC.
