Forspoken has been updated with official support for AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3), which includes their new software-based Frame Generation technology, Fluid Motion Frames. In this mini-review, we examine and compare the image quality and performance improvements provided by AMD FSR 3.

Something is not right with the 4K Native, FSR and FSR+FG images, only DLSS looks like it should.

Are the textures not loading, or what? Just look at the right bottom corner ground and grass.

1440p and 1080p look pretty much the same no matter the setting.

I have to say, I'm more than a little disappointed that this new AMD tech is being tested on Nvidia hardware only. It's impressive enough that AMD allows it to run on other vendors' hardware. I'm surprised it works at all without those companies (Nvidia/Intel) spending some time optimizing their drivers to play nice.

I guess for once I can understand why Nvidia is making it Nvidia last-gen exclusive without it being about money lol.

Just to point out, AMD's website says something else about the requirements to enable the fake frame generator:

"Recommendations for Frame Generation Use

When using AMD FSR 3 frame generation with any upscaling quality mode OR with the new “Native AA” mode, it is highly recommended to be always running at a minimum of ~60 FPS before frame generation is applied for an optimal high-quality gaming experience and mitigate any latency introduced by the technology. Consequently, we suggested you adjust the game graphic settings, resolution, and FSR upscaling quality mode to achieve this, based on the capabilities of the graphics hardware being used and your overall system specs."

AMD FSR 3 Now Available - AMD Community

PS: This game has a bug that makes the textures not load correctly, it has nothing to do with FSR, it's just another example of a broken game. :p

and thus wasn't applied in our testing as we're using a NVIDIA RTX 3080 GPU.
Maybe it is time to change this?
We are getting comparisons of Nvidia optimized techs on Nvidia hardware and half disabled versions of AMD techs on.... Nvidia hardware to usually come to a conclusion that Nvidia techs are better. What a surprise!!!

TPU is a huge forum. I am pretty sure someone can find a way for the reviewer to get an AMD card for objective testing. Probably not from AMD, because I doubt AMD to want to send a free GPU to a site where we constantly read how problematic FSR is compared to DLSS, but there must be a way.

to quote Daniel Owen:

So far the frame generation is the same quality as DLSS3.0, all problems can be attributed to just FSR2 being inferior to DLSS2.
Immortals of Aveum is perfectly fine but Forspoken has some jittery problems when rotating the camera, so that needs work.

Agreed. Feels weird to not test it on AMD cards where antilag+ is available, especially when Reflex is. Doesn't have to be a best case scenario, a 7700/7800 would be enough, at least so we can have some parity with nVidia's features for input latency reduction.

Not working with VRR, yikes…
Not that bad really, considering the smoothest visual experience is still having a constant refresh rate. Granted it limits it's use but in most cases I would want to be able to hit half my refresh rate anyway, at that point it seems perfectly fine.

Ill take less stutter and not having to force vsync over FG any day. VRR is especially valuable in online games with lots of unit counts etc… to where you start dropping pretty low. Too many odd compromises with upscaling and AI features.

Forspoken seems broken to me. I mean when I hit 120hz it's working fine but below it it does not feel smooth. And I have vsync forced on driver.

Immortals are fine though and to be honest it looks impressive. Even when I used VSR to render the game at 5k so my base fps was a little above 30 it definetly smoothed out the perceived frames. Yeah input lag was worse but in a different game it would be acceptable.
Image quality is what impressed me, there are almost no artifacts on screen. The fact that they do not need some fancy Optical Flow Accelerator to get those results really puts Nvidia in a bad light with their decision to lock it only to 4xxx series cards.

It would be nice if they would update it to work with VRR but so far when I turn Vsync in driver in Immortals even if I'm below 120hz it does not feel juddery.

I have 7900XTX and I also tried the preview driver with AFMF and tried Cyberpunk and Witcher 3. My only gripe with it is that it turns off with a little bit faster mouse movements other than that if FSR3 was Nvidia making look funny then this simply dunks on them and I think they need to respond with something of their own in the driver level.

It is important to note that AMD has its own latency reduction feature called "Anti-Lag+," which is only available for the RX 7000 series GPUs, and thus wasn't applied in our testing as we're using a NVIDIA RTX 3080 GPU.

So Why don't you buy 7900 XTX and tell us how is it?

Speaking of image quality, it is important to note that in order to use AMD's Frame Generation solution, the Super Resolution upscaling component is required. Unfortunately, the image quality of the Super Resolution component isn't improved with the third version of FSR, and the game is still essentially using FSR 2 for upscaling, which, as we have tested numerous times, has major instabilities in motion, especially at lower resolutions.

Forspoken uses FSR 2 or FSR 2.2 ?

While that is true, I would generally not use this in online games where latency is more important than motion fluidity.

FPS sure, otherwise no; what modern fps mp game doesnt already get 100+ fps on even low end hardware.

Just want to ad my short experience with FSR+FG, i can not speak about Forspoken, because i dont play it. I only tested FSR2 + FG in STarfield with the new Preview Driver: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-23-30-afmf-tech-preview

All I can say is, that for me FG works in Starfield surprisingly well, i cant see any more or less FSR problems than before but my framerate at least was doubled and i had Freesync enabled.

This. Also, not working properly with a low base frame rate. These make the technology completely useless.

I bet they'll fix the VRR stuff eventually, the gripe abound low base framerate is never gonna be resolved, frame interpolation will always suck on lower framerates no matter what you do, it's not magic at the end of the day.

That's why it's pointless. It only doesn't work when you don't need it anyway.

Doubling the fps from 60+ is still a legit use case, high refresh monitors have more or less become the norm. You can also just turn settings down to get there, if you can't reach 60 fps no matter what I guess you shouldn't be surprised this isn't working that well.
