DLSS originally was written for CUDA
Was it? Is there a source on that, I'd be quite curious to see it if so.

Not exactly. There was a DLSS version 1.9 or 1.5 that was already their temporal implementation not spatial as DLSS1 and it was used in Control. There was even video on it from Digital Foundry and it ran on shaders not tensor cores.

CUDA is still used in DLSS as there was a source code leak sometime ago. Another reason why I thought that the bug in Talos was a bug in menu and not running DLSS.
And of course if Nvidia wanted they could make DLSS run on shaders. There is a question how performant it would be and quality of it but we will never know as they dont want to do that.

BTW I find it funny that their first DLSS the spatial one used AI and still FSR using as many people say "simple Lanczos" is looking better than it.
Would be good if they could do it with FSR2.

I know it's a bit old now, but I felt like it was not necessary to open a new thread for this:

i don't remember forspoken had xess locked away, being exclusively available for Intel Arc gpus..

Guess I never noticed, because I had an A770 plugged in until today,
And just replaced it with a rx 7800 xt :
Only fsr3 available now, xess option is gone.. arc could choose between both)

My main first goal was to compare FSR(3) vs XeSS 1.3 , regarding image quality & stability.

I was curious to find out in how many titles XeSS (1.3) could "win" over FSR by now,
even when using it's "non native" dp4a path,

which also has been improved and has significantly evolved over time throughout the last 2 years or so..

I grew fond of using xess on my Arc where it has proven to be almost a no-brainer, and the preferred go-to option in almost all games that have it implemented ( I tried roughly half of them I'd guess)

So, the first game I tested was everspace 2 ,

which was recently ported over to UE5.x iirc ,
simply because it was the last one I tried on the Arc before I switched GPUs..

And I was surprised to see that xess 1.3 almost looked as good on the rx 7800xt as on my Arc,

And even on the rx 7800 xt, Intels upscaler is now my preferred choice in that game for now.

Then I was heading over to the second game, forspoken , simply because it was the first one I came up with remembering that it also has FSR3 (+fg) now, and xess as well.

Unfortunately, as said earlier above, I found out on my AMD Radeon rx 7800 xt I can only select FSR3 in the Demo,
there's no more xess option visible.

Question:
is xess still locked to arc by devs on purpose deliberately,
Or a game/ driver bug?

Any way to "fix" it or unlock xess for amd / radeon gpus ?

Ty in advance and for bearing with this rather lengthy post ;)
