PS games haven't been region locked since PS3.

UHD blu-rays aren't region locked either.

I've gotten used to the way my OG PS5 looks with dbrand's darkplates:

It does look considerably better with these dark plates on it.

I answered the guys question. As for the Dbrand's darkplates (DDs), I have version 1.0 and 2.0, 2 of 3 PS5s in my house have DDs on them and absolutely love them.

Kinda smart how they made the drive detachable. Feared it would be a external device. Apparently the core tech specs didn't change. No reduced power consumption, only reduced size. Makes me wonder if it can stay cool at the same noise levels. Also the price didn't change, for a 3 year old console.


You forgot the Playstation 2 Slimline. IMO the best looking console, ever. Also super crazy how they shrinked it in comparison to the orig. PS2. That's what I call a revolution.

PS1 to the PS1 Slim had to be the greatest slimmed down version ever.

Annoying that the stand is not included, at least they could've integrated to the console like the Series X.

I know it’s superficial, but I find the PS5 to be an ugly monstrosity that will not age well with time. I don’t understand what they were thinking making something so big and unmanageable in an age of small, discreet settop boxes.

Agreed, it ugly though the Series X isn't a looker either, but the worst part is the size, the thing is huge and take so much space, the Series X is way more compact.

Also, the stand is $30, but the covers are $55....AND to add insult to injury, the friggin ($15) dvd drive is $80....talk about milkin da (cash) cow....geeze, do we even get some cookies with that ?

yeah cause I want to be able to use it 20 years from now without having to do a massive teardown. and the current PS5 already offers me that.

But I don't know how the console deals with regular BDs or DVDs (where it's also a matter of PAL vs. NTSC).

Regular BD used less regions (or region 0 which is the same as no region) and more recent BDs and DVDs are always unlocked since that system was a complete failure anyway

if its sealed properly and it gets heated up on a regular basis as in playing a game once a month or something it should never dry out. oxygen is the only thing that can make it dry out from what i understand. you deny it that, which im pretty sure sony's ps5 seal does, and its good to go.

Lens cleaning fluid (or something similar) and a microfiber cloth are that model's best friends.

I now checked the article better, that's a genious idea that you can get the cheaper model if your budget is tight, then upgrade it with the optical drive later. That's what they should've done already with the current PS5.

I don't know about that. You get the digital model and you'll have to spend much more money on games, way more than what you save on the console.

If your budget is tight, you're not buying games at release to keep them forever. You either buy the disc and sell it after completing the game, or you wait for a discount.

And the biggest change this generation is how horrible the discounts are on the PS Store.
On the PS4, games would drop to $20 within 6-12 months. I bought Horizon Zero Dawn for $20 in November 2017 when I bought a PS4 Pro. I bought so many other games under $10 (The Order 1886 for $4, Uncharted 1-3 collection for $8, Killzone SF for $7).
Now it's been a year since Ragnarok and TLoU remake launched and the lowest price was $50, but you could buy physical copies cheaper than that months ago.

I don't like physical media for games anymore, but that means I'll have to wait a long time before buying a PS5 game in the PS Store, outside of something like Horizon, which I'm willing to spend $70 on.

Combination of milking the market something they dont ever seem to do as much in America and that playstation is much more dominant here. UK I believe PS has comfortable lead over Xbox, whilst in America they dont have the same dominance so more pressure to keep prices down.

However when recording if game is on internal storage it can cause blips in scene transitions, whilst the SN850X isnt affected by ongoing recording, I assume this is because recording is always to internal storage.

XBOX has always remained the odd child of consoles as it only does well in the US. SONY does better in the EU and Asia and Japan won't touch an American product especially one with PC gaming stink attached to it even in the slightest.

Nintendo goes off and does their own thing and it's working out great for them.
