View attachment 318182Did some research and it seems this chipset does up to 666mhz FSB 65nm Core 2 Duos.

I bought a T7400, another 2GB sodimm, and a 64GB SSD from AliExpress. Should be here in a few weeks. Hope it all works.

I found an restore disc off of Internet archive for XP SP2. May or may not use it.
Have you checked eBay? That way you wouldn’t have to wait weeks!

I would agree with this statement. It was great once SP2 hit.
The first desktop I had to my own was a dell Inspiron desktop with a celeron 450 that ran Vista. That's the first and last time I ran Vista, so running it again might be a bit nostalgic since it's been well over a decade.

This Inspiron 6400 laptop itself is a bit nostalgic for me since the family computer before I got my own was an Inspiron very similar to this. I don't remember a ton other than it was definitely this chassis of Inspiron or similar, and I know it had a Radeon. It ran XP and I have fond memories of playing flash games and looking at the Windows media player visualizer on it.

Have you checked eBay? That way you wouldn’t have to wait weeks!
Ali is cheaper and I had some other things I wanted to order so I just added these to my cart.

This laptop is just a toy to tinker with so it's upgrades are not exactly urgently needed

Alright, no more temp (and noise) issues with the Pentium 4. Also 4GHz seems stable.

Dell Latitude C600. Not bad but not the greatest either. I'm working on getting a 2k SP4 disc that has all updates in there so I can then proceed to get BWC's Extended Kernel and subsequently Java 8 on it.

The HP dv6 sneaking in is one of those Rossignol special editions, model dv6-3298eg I think (not sure if 3298 or 3299.)

Heey it used practically the same drivers as Win7, probably they just sucked in the beginning since I can't remember anything special about devices' Win7 drivers being crap. And I used Win7 x64 from the beginning to the end (except when I tested it with old non-x64 hardware but that's a whole different story)..
W7 wasn't out yet, so you didn't have the choice of trying W7 drivers on Vista.

Yeah I had one of those GTX 260 Core 216’s. Great bang for buck at the time over the regular 260’s.
YES they were!! I have a XFX and a EVGA core 216 that i ran in sli back then. Heres the better of the two. Told ya, just a hardware junky! :D

At least XPDM drivers worked on vista for the most part.

Here it is! The price sticker said "Quite Broken" and "$50?" so I got it for $25. This is my first desktop 486 computer.

It's amazing the CMOS battery hasn't leaked yet! I removed it shortly after taking this photo.

Does anyone know what this card does? I can't find any pictures or manuals for it online.

Its connector has 37 pins.

To top it off, it works!!! I need a 5-pin DIN connector to get any further. It's ordered and on its way.

I'd put twenty down that it's a data acquisition interface. You probably can't find any info because there were likely only a few dozen in existence ever, possibly fewer.
Agreed. Its gotta be some specialty thing for their type of work at the very least, if it wasnt speced and ordered by them exclusively. @Canned Noodles.... Very cool bunch of spoils! Where'd you find this, flea market or electronics refurb store?

Hm I think I'm going to order a battery to my iPhone 5s and I'll use it as a mp3 player. Put some tracks on it already but IIRC it has its original battery (friend's old phone which he gave me). At least the battery life is pretty meh.

Also overclocking and benching my oddball GTX 660 OEM (3GB/192bit, 1152sp, GK104) and seems that it's a little faster than RX 460. I may end up keeping this on my 2nd PC until I'll get a better card for it.

I have an XP Pro SP3 disc. I can point you in the right direction if you want a copy of it.

You could also make a ISO file and upload it to Google drive.

I dunno that I'd be keen to share copyrighted material with strangers on the Internet, particularly when the copyright holder is Microsoft.

Like Scott stated, I don't think they would care. And, it just an ISO image being shared. Doesn't have anything to do with the license.

Interesting theories on origin of the card! @Massdeth I got this at a nearby antique mall, and I found this in the same vendor booth as the S3 graphics card I posted earlier.

Finished work on these two great portable retro machines.

20231021_005104.jpg
20231021_005737.jpg

Left - Latitude C600. Had a lot of work to do OS wise - already had installed 2k w/ USP5, all updates. Only had to install Blackwingcat's extended kernel.

Specs:
-P3 Coppermine 1GHz - socket 495 (very small chip!)
-ATI Rage Mobility 128 (M3) 8MB
-40GB Hitachi HDD
-HL-DT-ST GSA-T20N DVD drive (kinda janky as I can't find the original plastic bay that slots in - funny enough I do have the proprietary DELL PCB that connects the DVD to the bay!)

Right - Gericom Supersonic M6-T 1200. A literal powerhouse of a mobile P3 implementation - full blown VIA 694T onboard + Tualatin P3 1.2GHz. Needed some RAM cleaning. It's also the only machine I have that actually runs a Tualatin chip - all my desktop PGA370 mainboards are limited to Coppermine only (not counting pinmods.). Runs 98SE w/ Plus!, KEX4.52 and NUSB3.6.

Specs:
-P3 Tualatin 1.2GHz - socket 370 (forgot the S-Spec but I can confirm it's a chonky Tualatin chip, the thicc IHS further confirms it)
-ATI Radeon VE/7000 (M6) 16MB
-60GB Western Digital HDD
-Panasonic DVD-RW (forgot the model but it's about the only drive I could match the bezel from the original Gericom drive to)

Those are both awesome! I have a 1.26Ghz P3 mobile chip laying around somewhere in a plastic clamshell. I will have to look. I’ve moved a few times so I hope it stayed with my tech boxes lol which it should have unless it was in one of the times I had to really downsize. I can’t even remember what year I pulled it from a laptop! So long ago, good times.

I don’t believe I’ve ever used W 98 “Plus” before. What is the “Plus” over the standard?

"Microsoft Plus! is a discontinued commercial operating system enhancement product by Microsoft. The last edition is the Plus! SuperPack, which includes an assortment of screensavers, themes, and games, as well as multimedia applications."

I barely remember having a Win95 PC with the Plus package back in the day.

Seeing the Win2k boot screen I thought "Damn, I spent a lot of time looking at that screen"!
Great OS, but a cold boot such a looong time to get to desktop.
2k never crashed on me if you don't count unstable overclocks :)

Hated that software developers stopped supporting it so I had to switch to XP. XP was good but I liked 2k more. :toast:
