What's your latest tech purchase?

$150 to $200 is reasonable for high end. $300 to $400 for elite equipment? Ok. Above $500? Forget about it. That's just wasteful.

We're just talking about headphones.

I have and it's not pleasant. High quality headphones for $200? Ok, I'm sold. But no one is going to sell me on $1000+ headphones. That's like $100 HDMI cables or $75 AV cables. It's bloody snake-oil nonsense.
Well. It's comparable with the Power of a car. One drives a powerful car much more relaxed than a powerless one. There are some people who will and some who won't pay that.

I also talked about the headphones. I paid for mine around €400. at the time i bought it was around USD 450-500. For such headphones one needs to use a DAC/Headphone amp either. And that also costs. Some headphones are available only with a specialized amp included. One cannot get the headphone without that amp.

I listen to classic music quite often. I need a certain level of headphones to have it pleasant. So, i expect difference things from my headphones as you do. Thats fine. I would never charge you to buy expensive Headphones. If you don't want to hear the difference between Kathleen Jenkins or Jennifer Rush at the one hand and Celine dion on the other side. That's fine. But be aware. K. Jenkins and J.Rush are opera singers with a much higher quality than C. Dion.

Good Grief! People actually PAY those prices?

Not quite, I buy them used.

But anyway, headphones have a very high payback for the money you spend. For relatively little money you can go to a very high end. That is not possible with speakers.

The step from $500 to $1000-1300 is very noticeable. No question that there are good options in the $200 range, too. I like the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro in 250 ohm.

I think my B&W P7 where about £300. had them a fair while now.

SP? And what CPU did you come from?

Oh btw, you think a KS is going to get released? Thanks.

SP 97, it is average chip for 14900KF,.. not god bin, not potato. Replaced below average 13900KF.

28 chips binned so far, mine is #14, dead center on OCN VF Point Offset, Y-Cruncher VID Testing.

Honestly yes,.. I think Intel will release the Keep Spending chip mid January. :)

Once again thanks Freeagent for exposing us to this. The first thing you notice is how heavy the box is. I swear it feels like a beefy PSU. I am looking forward to unleashing my 5950X into my 2nd PC.

BTW it was $67 CAD that is not even $50 US.

Needed a new desk for the new house.... This is actually by far the cheapest piece of furniture I've purchase so far but the only tech related one. I actually need a second one but want to put it through it's paces before buying a second. Will post some updates in the PC ATM thread after I get it setup next month.

I've actually had the card for over a month now and it has been perfect.

Oh, I didn't buy that case for me to use, I bought it to put parts in and sell as a full PC. My case is a gigantic Ultra U12-40670 eATX Server Super Tower made of heavy-gauge steel. My PC weighs between 40 and 50lbs because of it but it's made to accommodate a server if needed and can handle PSUs more than double the length of a standard ATX. There's no way that I'd use something else. It's an old-school monster with seven 5¼" bays that open to the front, plus five internal 3½" HDD bays. Even with all of that framing in the front, my RX 7900 XTX fits easily with room to spare. As for cooling, there are two 120mm Cooler Master Sickle Flow fans at the intake and one at the exhaust. Cooling is not an issue in a case designed to be able to house a server. ;)

This is a small picture of it stripped-down but there's no scale (that long slot at the top has a movable support bracket to allow for huge server PSUs):

This video is far better at showing you just how big it is because there's a person there to compare it to:

At that price, those things better come equipped with an airplane!
huge also in ugliness!!

Winter is coming
maxresdefault.jpg

addicted to bike tech, am i? SURE i am!
recent order ... well i will postpone the tubless conversion as i heard it's of a bit a hassle in winter
but
checking my chain wear after 1 year will be mandatory
kmc-werkzeug-kettenlehre-easy-kette-checker.jpg

if it's under 0.8 then ... i got a good combo (c-c-c-combo! ) on a chain and chainring
sram-kettenblatt-36-zaehne-x-sync-104bcd-12-fach-schwarz.jpgsram-gx-eagle-12-fach-kette.jpg
the oval chainring i have is working like a charm but i could not resist to have something from SRAM (in the Eagle line ) to play with, plus it was cheaper than the chain alone for the 2 (and the chain is 25chf)

tool for missing link is "missing" from my toolbox, i have a chainbreaker but not that one ...
bbb-kettenzange-linkfix-oeffnen-schliessen.jpg
combination tool ofc, o_O KMC has a separate "open" and "close" tool for that purpose but cost double of that one from BBB, actual : what the heck?

wax specially for ebikes? i don't buy into the commercial argument... but it was cheaper than normal wax ... why not
squirt-kettenwachs-e-bike-120ml.jpg

and sintered (metalic) brake pad, because what i have now are organics and metalic brake pad work better in winter (and my discs are compatible )
clarks-bremsbelag-811c-disc-sintered-shimano-tektro-clarks-quad.jpg
ordered 2 pairs of course ...

and since i will need it more than once :
ausstellstaender-fahrradstaender-mit-zwei-haken-schwarz.jpg
rear frame/wheel stand for less than 10chf? 30kg certified? good my bike is 21.9kg

and that ... because, who does not need that?
motorex-mikrofasertuch-3er-pack.jpg
(Motorex, a swiss brand, microfiber towels)

dynamometric 6nm tool would also be a good idea (and since it was the "freebie" for the total order exceeding a certain price threshold, again: why not... )
bbb-drehmomentschluessel-kit-6-nm-mit-inbus-2-3-4-5-6-torx-t25.jpg

computer tech? oh....
next month maybe, probably?
(i can use a 6nm dynamometric tool for computer assembly? o_O  if not, i can surely use the Motorex microfiber towels to clean the computer :D )

A PowerColor RX 6700 XT Fighter for £287, brand new.

There was an ASUS Dual 6750 XT for an extra £70 that I was considering, but I don't know if the 10% additional performance for 24% extra cost was justifiable.

This is my upgrade from an RX 570.

That's an awesome deal, congrats! :) I don't think the extra cash would have been worth it for the Asus Dual.

How do you like it?

Mine with stock fans is about on par, or a couple of c better than my coolers with high performance fans.. it is a lot better than I thought it would be after seeing high temps on other peoples setups..

Thank you. :)

I was originally on the market for a 6800 XT but they seem to hold their price too much, and I haven't seen any 7800 XT stock anywhere.

Maybe a little down the line I'll grab a 7800 XT or something.

Also pretty sure I can overclock the 6700 XT to reach what I would have had with the 6750 XT, and for a £70 difference that's what I was thinking about. I've seen a few people mention that the 6750 XT cards don't overclock as well as the older ones.

That's because the 6750 XT is already overclocked out of the box - it's a higher binned 6700 XT, after all.

I see Scan has some 7800 XT stock, but considering that you've just got a 6700 XT, I'd hold on a bit if I were you.

You will be quite happy with the super smooth Gameplaty you are going to enjoy.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess those cards are sold already at their limits.

My upgrade path so far has been RX 460 => RX 570 => RX 6700 XT

Funny thing is that I was looking at a 5600 XT or 5700 XT a few years back as possible upgrades, so I have something that's better than that now.

Aha, I've seen a few comparison videos for the games I play and they are quite insane. The RX 570 was a wonderful GPU but I think it's reached its limits. I'm going to keep it as a backup GPU now, alongside the RX 460.

I never thought anything would rival the InWin Sr series but the 240MM RAD keeps my 5950X 3 C cooler than the 360 version of that cooler. Thermalright have really hit it out of the park with this one. It is how much metal the block has that makes it work so well. That is just a theory though. The price is really bewildering given the performance on offer. It would seem that Thermalright have supplanted Arctic in the Budget CPU cooling department. Once again thanks, honestly this feels as good as the 3300X (I think AMD CPU) or the Arctic AIO but the price makes you think you are taking advantage of someone.

Yeah its a badass cooler, I agree :rockout:

Edit:

I might get a 240 for my kids computer lol..

Don't worry I had a RX 580/470 in crossfire and have a 6750XT so I know what it will feel like. You will get that smile that getting compelling PC hardware brings that inspires sites like TPU.

Well it is less money than a proper Air cooler and half any other decent AIO so you won't regret it. I am seriously thinking of getting the 360 for my 7900X3D.
