More on this subject. Below are my Dell XP discs. The first is the OS disc which is just a plain-jane Dell branded XP install. The other is the bundled programs disc. I don't have the drivers & utilities disc anymore.

This is what I recommend you look for concerning that Dell system. Ebay is a good place and fairly inexpensive.

EDIT: For example;
$14
$15

IF you'd prefer SP2, that can be had for $10;

True, but they were otherwise not difficult to work on.
100% yeah. Not difficult at all. I just remember it being a bummer I couldn't just put any ole board in my moms old Pentium D bearing Dell E510 to upgrade it LOL.

Took me a while but it works now!

P4Dual-915GL.PNG

Quick specs:

- ASRock P4Dual-915GL
- Northwood HT 2.8GHz
- Sapphire Radeon HD4870 1GB GDDR5
- 2x512MB DDR400
- Raidmax RX-700AC PSU
- 120GB Hitachi HDD I got out of a recently modded Xbox 360
- TSSTCorp SH-216 SATA DVD drive
- XP Pro SP3.

What's even funnier? I can easily slap a HD7970 on it and it'll boot and work just as fine :laugh:

ASRock really nailed it with this one. The 915 chipset really goes way too well with 478. If only it had 4 DIMM slots, it would have been absolutely epic.

Oof. Unfortunately don't have any, the lowest Celeron I have is a 2.4GHz (also Northwood if I remember correctly, came out from some ECS laptop that was scrapped a long time ago) that I have no idea where it is atm.

Which Windows XP theme is that?
Longhorn M4 (build 4011) theme I got off Internet Archive. Requires patched uxtheme as far as I remember.

After putting XP service pack 4 on a CF card it does not boot up again why? :(
That "SP4" screwed up my XP install not that long time ago so I decided to not bother with it anymore.

Just have SP3 without any unofficial newer SPs, that's fine with XP.

There are no problems with SP4, however there is a procedure to follow for flawless operation:
If starting from SP0, upgrade to SP1 or SP2, then
1. Install WindowsXP-USP4-v3.1b-NODOTNET-x86-ENU.exe and reboot.
2. Install May 2019 update rollup (WindowsXP-SP4EOS-Rollup-v2.exe) and reboot.
3. Install all required .NET Frameworks via Control Panel/Add-rem-Win-Cmpnnts and reboot (1.1 & 3.5 first, reboot and then 4.0 and reboot).
4. Wait for post-install tasks to complete.

Vista driver support is what sucked. :p

So much so that I still get stuck in Vista land with some of my hardware. Ageia PPU200 and 2900 XTX are both Vista-locked due to ~2007 era drivers basically being the only ones to run at full speed. Both work on later systems with Windows default drivers but at about 1/4 of the performance. Edit: oh yeah and GeForce PCX, Vista drivers work alright but Win7 it nosedives. At least that can just be put on XP.

Surprised about the 2900. You should have no issues running that on XP or W7.

Actually I installed Vista yesterday on a fast-ish LGA775 rig. Damn I miss the looks of that OS, looked better than Win7 if you ask me.

I'll install some more games then I'll post few benchmarks. :)

Seems very convoluted. No thanks. SP4 was important back when XP was still in common use. That's just not the case anymore. No one needs it. SP3 is optimal.
