I'm not going 24/7 and I'm at $350/mo already. Though been doing it more and the air conditioner has been on less so might even out.

Is that your total bill, or just the portion that accounts for BOINC? Either way, it's a pretty hefty cost!

I might do a week in a month, or just a couple of days per week, we'll see. I have only started using BOINC lately, so I'll have to see how it works out in practice. Theoretically, running my two HTPCs 24/7 would cost me around 60 quid a month, which is way too much.

The Threadripper and 3090 can chew through 800w easy (I've not overclocked it but I think for the moment it is capped at 280w but I'd like to see if I get get that a little higher...)

800w x 24 hours = 19.2kW
19.2kW x £0.27p (I think that's the actually the UK's 'average' electric charge) = £5.18 a day.. That's just for one system as well...

I'm not sure I'm ready to find out how much every system costs me if I where to leave them all running!! ... I'm pretty sure I'll lose all my credit I've worked up to for and then be in debt no problem!!

My bedroom HTPC has a 35 W i7-4765T in it and a GT 1030. The whole system should use maybe 80-100 W tops. I might as well just use that for BOINC, although I'd rather not sleep next to a PC running full blast, however quiet it is.

It's amazing that sometimes even the quietest of systems can create some noise that will make it uncomfortable when sleeping in the same room....

Its why I find always undervolting the CPU/GPU, to be the best way to get the best out of the hardware and with slightly overkill coolers as well, makes all the more difference

Electrical tape for the LEDs. For fans well I'm stuck with tinnitus so airflow helps me sleep.

I guess I could just disable the LED in the BIOS... or pull it off the motherboard header...

I just did a full week of uninterrupted Einstein@Home on both of my HTPCs (i7-11700 + 1050 Ti and i7-4765T + 1030). I'm curious how much this added to my electricity bill. I'll see it in a couple of weeks, and decide what to do next - whether to BOINC on one or both of these machines, and for how long at a time.

No need to explain it if you can't, there's absolutely NO pressure for ANYONE to run ANYTHING 24/7 for this team. I expect nothing but whatever anyone can manage. If that's one work unit or 100 or 1000 or 100000 a day, that's what it is We all have different circumstances so everyone will be different.. There's no need or reason to explain what your running or how much your running it, unless you want to then we expect hardcore hardware p0rn pictures in the gallery, its that simple.. But just go easy on the nudes.... People might get jealous

@AusWolf do you have a watt meter or anything that will show you the wattage that's being pulled from the sockets at all?? Rather than killing yourself with electric costs, spending £10 or something I think on one, might make things easier There's some Tapo ones I have, that are 'online' if you like and they can show wattages and such, kinda handy but they do love taking data... Just a thought of whatever works for you

Now that you mentioned it, I do have one. Although, there must be something wrong with it because the last time I used it to measure how much power charging 4 AA batteries takes, it gave me 0 Wh till full charge. Or maybe I haven't figured out how to use it properly.

I get billed for electricity on 15th, so we'll see soon anyway.

For now, the best solution seems to be running the smaller HTPC for a couple of days a week.

I don't know if it would have worked with the battery charger, but plug it into a kettle, turn it on and see it work That's an easy test

I run whatever I can during the day, if the price of the electric is stupidly low for me or they say they are going to pay me to use electric, then I'll get some more kit on crunching Reminds me, need to put that up in the forum!!

I only found one team with this name (TechPowerUp!).

Another weird idea: I might also test how this thing runs on a super low-end system, like my netbook with a Celeron N4020 in it. I'm not hoping for anything good, though.
