Unlikely. MX-6 is an excellent performer and is not expensive. Just go with it. You'll be glad you did.
My paycheck is about to be unloaded Tuesday so it's not very long till I "calibrate" my GPU. And yes, MX-6 it is.

Found a stupid cheap offer on PTM7950 and I'll give it a shot tomorrow. In case I'm not satisfied I'll have my MX-6 as a backup solution.

Advice, freeze the PTM before use...
So basically I'll have to stay outside for 15 minutes. Not that hard.

It can be tricky to apply when pulling up the top protective layer. Don't worry if it get's mangled a bit, it liquifies at 45c and higher and will self repair. Here's what a decent application looks like (on a PS4)

...and these results are -4C on the junction and -2C on the hotspot. I heard that PTM7950 gets better over time so I'll play around and watch metrics again next week. Gonna lower the pressure (190 → 160 W) for now, 90s don't look so pleasant.

What was the old paste again?
I don't think this brand exists outside Russia and, perhaps, some other CIS countries. Literally one step above the absolute shit tier.

In case you're curious this label says, "Thermal paste for CPUs with metallic surface."

I'll certainly start a thread to almost certainly hear from the same posters active in here if this is unwanted chatter.

After having my 1060 GPU apart a good half dozen times in the last year (mostly repasting with AS5 for optimal thinness). Thermal pads are not leaking, torn, or overly dirty. I should replace them.

Is there a discoverable option on the market better suited for this low power/heat card than ones with idle temps equal to what it sees under max load?
Lots of disposable bubblegum and meaningless numbers I can mostly look past. Operating at half expected temps does make me wonder if there's a valid option in that pile being missed.

PTM as pad or paste? just wondering
I bought some new arctic MX6 ( already had a tube of it but couldn't find it lol ) and will compare to my current application of PTM7958 one of these days, not that i expect much difference tho

As a paste of course. My VRAM is hard chilling at low 60s already.

Wow! A friend of mine has some of that. It seems to do well for him. Not sure I'd go as far as to call it "one step above shit tier". Maybe a bargain brand, but you can do FAR worse than that stuff.

You bought PTM paste? Yeah, that's not the same as the PTM7950 sheet. It's way worse in most testing I've seen online.

I like thermal pads due to how clean they are, and I think a lot of people overuse the amount of thermal paste required, cause its hard to tell whats going get you the best heat results. (i'm a thermal pad expert for my job actually lol)

A new limited edition apple-scented thermal paste was launched in Japan today. A collaborative effort between M1N1ing and Clock Work Tea Party, the Extreme Muglis 4G Apple Edition EG4GAP paste is formulated for room-temperature overclocking antics. No, this isn’t designed for Apple's Mac computers, it just reportedly smells like an Apple and comes in green.

In some supplemental information about the quality of the new CWTP-EG4GAP paste, it is described as using extremely fine particles precipitated using ultrasonic technologies.

HyperSonicPolish compound :D

On Amazon US there is a new paste called Toplamp TL-A40 which I ordered. It's a paste manufactured in Taiwan from a manufacturer called Poly Applied Materials & Biotechnology Co., Ltd. If it's good I will let you know in 1-2 weeks.

Toplamp uses high-end chemical technology. Developed and manufactured TL-A40 thermal conductive compound. TL-A40 has extremely high stability at high temperatures. And has extremely high thermal conductivity. It can conduct heat effectively and quickly. It can be used in various high-temperature equipment.

Wait, what? Why?!? Seriously, we all KNOW some daffy nitwit is going to try tasting it... :kookoo::shadedshu:

No offense to you of course, that's just crazy!

Just found this.

15W/m-K seems pretty good, but some of the info seems like bullpoo

The Wx-130 maximizes the cooling capabilities by utilizing next-gen technology to convert heat into light, enhancing thermal transport efficiency

the guy on Reddit says-If it doesn't impress you I'll buy it back!

They are either genius or mental

Most of our testing was done on nickel-plated cold plates. We haven't noticed a substantial difference between the nickel plate and straight copper. Nickel plating is typically thinner than the IR wavelength emitted by our thermal compound. Good question!

Speaking of cold plates...here's a sneak peek at the advanced cold plates we have been developing. We are working to create a cold plate with IR windows to fully maximize our radiative thermal paste.

when my mx-6 runs out, I am getting a thermal grizzly kryosheet and never buying any thermal interface again as long as I live. runs at the same temps as any paste, and no mess. just makes sense to use it. sure some pastes might get you 2 celsius better, but honestly who cares. i care more about gaming than 2 celsius, so meh.

Wow, that really sounds like a big load of nonsense lol

Lets take a look:
Stefan–Boltzmann law - Wikipedia

Running at 100°C (373K) one gets 1100 W/m^2

If the CPU is 40mm x 40mm this gives about 2W

The problem with this is that the recieving surface will be at a similar temperature and so returning a simillar power, so the radiative transfer is about

2W (1-(370/373)^4), which is less than a 10th of a watt, so if I got the calculations right, your intuition is correct.
