Hello everyone,

I'm new to this website and forum and wanted to ask for some advice regarding an upgrade for my current gaming computer.
I added the specs to my profile.

I use my computer almost solely for gaming purposes, while watching some youtube on my second monitor, some browsing or some Netflix.
About 90-95% of my gaming time is spent on Guild Wars 2, but I also like to play some of the newly released games as well, such as Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur's Gate 3, Hogwart's Legacy, etc.
I have been thinking about upgrading my CPU and GPU, as I'm not able to push my graphics as high in these new games (especially CP 2077).
Also, I've read that Guild Wars 2 would be more CPU bound, and that a 5800X3D would be a good CPU for this game.

So I've been thinking about upgrading my CPU to the 5800X3D, putting on a Thermalright Peerless Assassin cooler, and adding 16Gb more of RAM.
The GPU, I've been thinking about waiting a while to see the NVidia Super cards and see how that changes the current landscape of GPU's. I would also need a new PSU for that as well.

I don't have the most knowledge about PC building, so that's why I'm making this post here, hopefully some of you can give me some insights or ask me some questions (because I'm certain I'm not thinking about a lot of things) so I can get a different perspective on things.

Thank you in advance!

Honestly the 2080 Super is still a mean graphics card, and Ada Super refresh will be coming very soon. Wait at least until these cards release.

Buy a 5800X3D and upgrade to 32 GB of RAM for now. The CPU and especially RAM are the weak links on your machine right now. 16 GB is just crap if you wanna play 2023+ AAA games comfortably, and the 5800X3D will be a massive performance leap from the 3600, it's the best that will work on your motherboard for gaming. You're in the correct train of thought :)

Enjoy

Also, if following the 5800X3D route, do upgrade your cooling solution. A Wraith Spire (R5 3600's stock cooler) can't handle a R7 5800X3D.

Thank you all for the advice!
I have to admit, I already ordered (and received) a 5800X3D + a Thermalright Peerless Assassin and a RAM upgrade to 32Gb :D. Just wanted to make sure before I installed everything.
I'll keep my GPU for now and wait for the new releases.

Again, big thanks!

Your 2080 Super will (depending on the game) get a boost in fps as well with your new CPU.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
yep, a 5800X3D with adequate cooler is a nifty upgrade, and the 2080 Super, as others have said already, is still more than sufficient in many cases

i am, also, going from a R5 3600 to a R7 5800X3D tomorrow
