I want to change my CPU in that board to something more powerful, but I understand what VRM cooling on that board not so good for ryzen 7. PC with that board far away from me for now, but I wanted to buy r7 2700x for cheap from a friend. So question can I change TDP and overall power usage on that board to limit power usage like my old r5 1600ae what now installed? As far I know it can disable precision boost and set offset voltage to -0.100 something. I don't remember if that board can underclock cpu. Can I set exactly TDP on that board 45/65w? I know b350 limited chipset

Some bioses have the option to limit the TPD or an eco mode to limit the CPU to 65W TDP. Maybe it is wise to check if your bios has the option to set it. It wil limit the boost.
My MSI B350 Tomahawk has those options in the bios.

What for cooler are you using? A tower or an AMD Boxed cooler?

I don't know if my board have that option or it's blocked with r5 1600 and appear when I install r7...If I disable boost it will be the same as 'eco' TDP limit? I have boxed Amd cooler - wraith spire.

The options which you are going to see are based on the processor installed. So if you install an APU like the 2400G or 5600G then you will see options to configure video memory as well.
It is also depending if an old bios or a newer bios is flashed on the motherboard. Which bios version is currently installed?

If I disable boost it will be the same as 'eco' TDP limit?
No. TDP limit will limit the boost to a lower level so long it is exceeding the TDP limit. One core will likely still boost to the max level, but all core boost will be limited.

I have boxed Amd cooler - wraith spire.
A wraith spire is a good cooler for the VRM since it will force air flow on the VRM. Tower or water coolers dont force airflow on the VRM.

Hope my board have that. Yes, I have some latest BIOS F52h or F52l. I will test later and post here, maybe will be useful for someone who search, I didnt find any information about this board and that CPU. And manual gives me nothing, sad where's no bios emulators :)
No. TDP limit will limit the boost to a lower level so long it is exceeding the TDP limit. One core will likely still boost to the max level, but all core boost will be limited.
Didnt know that, thanks. So if I dont have TDP limit control... I can sacrifice performance and just disable boost completely (anyway it will be much better in terms of performance than R5 1600ae), and it will be easy to handle by mainboard and vrm as I understand? No boost no voltage spikes, it will be near 1.2 volts must be.
Also I find video with some bios options on that board
cTDP must be option I needed?
Someone tested that board with R5 3600 and VRM heats near 63c without PC case.

2700X is 105w part at base clocks 3.7ghz with PBO turbo turnt off.

So you can open cpu-z and go to the about tab and save report txt. Open the txt file and look at the power states, should be 3 of them. This will give you base figures to tweak your wattage with.

GL!

It's more than 105W with PBO? So If I want to go lower than 105W I must set something like 22.0 - 0.9v / 28.0 - 0.950v / 32 - 1.0v ?
Just saved that txt from my r5 3600

# of P-States 3
P-State FID 0x890 - VID 0x48 (36.00x - 1.100 V)
P-State FID 0xA8C - VID 0x58 (28.00x - 1.000 V)
P-State FID 0xC84 - VID 0x68 (22.00x - 0.900 V)
It's for base clocks only must be, 1.1 at max to 3.6 Ghz. Option in BIOS will be called custom p states or something?

You have to get the p-states with the system at defaults. I should have mentioned that. It will include the max base frequency at 3.7ghz around 1.35v If my memory serves well today. (2700x)

Yes, the cpu will draw higher wattage with PBO enabled over the advertised 105w. Yes indeed.

Edit, My kid has a 5600G.. could default his system and pull the numbers of you want.

I am not sure how it is called for Gigabyte. I assume cTDP stands for configurable TDP. Otherwise adjust the PBO values to a 65W processor (PPT 88W, TDC 60A, EDC 90A).

On my MSI B350 Tomahawk I used a 5900X (105W TDP) for a while with PBO enabled. That motherboard wasn't official designed for that processor so I limited at 65W with eco mode to be sure but it also worked fine with 105W when doing some stability tests  Airflow on the VRM is important and you got a boxed cooler which blows air on it.

63c isn't real high temperature for VRM under load. If it is like 90~100 degrees or more under load then the VRM will not die instandly but it will degrade quickly over time.

Ok, I decided to bought new motherboard for second PC and install 2700x, previous r5 1600ae was died in Gigabyte B450 DS3H (motherbord and other components seems ok and working now with new mb), don't know what happen, CPU works only in bios now (worked without any overclocking for all time - 2 years). Bought asrock b450m pro4 r2 it has better vrm setup for that CPU, otherwise it worse than gigabyte. For another PC bought new r5 2600 and installed in gigabyte ab350m-ds3h v2, I found cTDP option and I can set any digit here(but it's not needed for such CPU), it will work for a long time with that CPU, r7 too hot and power hungry for it.
I using 2700x without boost on my asrock, cpu thermal diodes show 67C and 77C under stress test with cheap cooler with 4 heat pipes (jonsbo 1400 evo) I heard about +10C offset on r7 CPU's... is modern mainboards with modern bioses corrects that readings? Which one show correct temperatures? That board does not have VRM diode but it's seems ok with 105W CPU - next I want try using PBO to overclock r7 for something 3.9/4Ghz

I would advise You also to get "tin can metal M2 radiator", cut it with scissors for strip-size matching the second VRM zone on your mobo and sticking it on there. I did that with some A320 mobo, helped a little with Ryzen 5. ;)

I think its for igpu or something not for CPU itself. Also it's not heating much and cooling by stock amd cooler.
