I lived in a third-world s**thole where criminals will happily murder you to prevent you from reporting them to the police. I thankfully don't live there anymore, for what are hopefully extremely obvious reasons.
Yeah good thing police in G20 nations are so much better
Except money or "better" opportunities to earn them there's very little difference between a democracy & kleptocracy these days! Oh & the illusion of free & fair elections, hint the corporate overlords have already picked your chieftain

For what exactly? To gain a gambling addiction and be a bad example? Or just 'muh freedom'? Adults lack self restraint much the same. This type of business is like a cancer, preying on the weak.
Opinion agreed! Regulations are not just for protecting kids but also for compressing these cash-consuming games. These are not games but gamble!!! Game should be something you spent time on with joy, while lots of em now are NOT!

It's pretty tiresome seeing some of the comments in this thread. Keep it on topic, please. That would be China regulating gaming. Not elections or police performance.

Most Western countries also have gambling regulations, but they are not updated for blind loot boxes with real money in the computer game business model. The existing gambling regulations need to be enforced for the new business models.

They won't be, because most of the politicians are 20 billion years old and barely understand the concept of videogames.

For my home country, https://minister.infrastructure.gov...inimum-classifications-gambling-games-content

Computer games containing simulated gambling, such as social casino games, will be legally restricted to adults only with a minimum classification of R18+.

The changes respond to growing community concerns about the potential harms of children accessing gambling-like content in computer games. Research commissioned by the Australian Government has found links between in-game purchases, loot boxes, simulated gambling and gambling harm.

The Australian federal Labor (socialist) government is aware of loot box gambling and the new regulation will be introduced from September 2024.

------------
For Singapore, https://www.straitstimes.com/singap...y-inaugurated-in-spore-as-new-products-emerge

Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) will regulate a sweeping range of gambling services, including those offered in casinos and lotteries, as well as sports betting and loot boxes in online video games.

------------

Games like Genshin Impact have a game of chance (for new premium characters and weapons) with real-world money and with a limit e.g. 80 attempts limit with a 50% chance for a premium character/weapon. This game needs to be R18+ (age restricted above 17) rated.

The reason why I cited Singapore is due to many Chinese game companies are establishing business units in Singapore.

You libertarians kill me with your "regulation is teh evil" mentality. If you hate being regulated so much, why don't you move to a third-world s**thole where the law isn't enforced? Oh right, it's because you don't actually hate laws, you just hate them when they're applied to you because you're inherently selfish sociopathic snowflakes who think you're so special that you should get a free pass.

I lived in a third-world s**thole where criminals will happily murder you to prevent you from reporting them to the police. I thankfully don't live there anymore, for what are hopefully extremely obvious reasons. I really wish you'd spend some time there, to learn appreciation for the laws of the country that you currently live in.

Thing is when they are allowed to regulate some thing, they don't know when to stop, kinda like US with guns as if they took all them of Americans whats next ?, knifes then what ?.

Every time you give a inch they take a mile with it.

Nothing like a good old slipery slope argument, and bringing in guns no less which are a great example, successfully regulated almost all over the world other than in the land of the free.

Enjoy the daily shootings I guess :nutkick:

It's a shame the chinese had to force it to regulate it though. Game companys get greedy when they discover a cash cow, and unfortunatley humans are crappy at regulating ourselves with stuff that is self distructive or harmful to ourselves. I have never been a gambler and really want the UK GOV to totally ban gambling ads on UK TV and say FU to the gambling companys if they whine about it. Imo gambling is not a service and they do not provide anything useful to anyone but themselves.

I kinda think it's ironic how everyone hates or is so distrusful of China, and they are the first to do this.

Topic is gaming regulations by Chinese gov.

Let's be fair here, it's very reasonable to distrust the Chinese government. If the side-effect of such regulation is beneficial, then that's fine, but don't lose track of the core objective of the policy.

You probably all know that Genshin is de facto banned in Belgium because of the loot box ban in that country, and gacha counts as loot box. However, more European countries are beginning to criminalize lootboxes Will Mihoyo end up discontinuing access to Genshin in these countries? Eventually yes.

Video game loot boxes declared illegal under Belgium gambling laws

China allowed its game companies to grow large on the backs of backdoor gambling. Belgium is a tiny country, hence a near-zero impact.
