Xeon Owners Club

Glad to help you on that :)
and it looks like i wont be needing the UEFI Patch which is half the work. as of now this A770 is working very nice with the xeon but rebar will be the icing on the cake.

I don't know a lot about it. I crossed pathes with the info in the Dell support forums when researching CPU support for the T3600. Some users saying that they got V2's working in their system and some said no joy. The info is kinda spotty, but it is VERY unlike Dell not to support new CPU's with microcode updates. The T3600/T3610 situation is an oddball thing for Dell, as general rule.
I just also realized that on thier server platforms there's some that support v3 and v4 cpus too!! Lots of poweredges but very few precisions that have both

Ah, this is nice...2x E5-2695 v2..that is 2x 12c/24t.

Came across 18c 36t xeon e5 2696 v3 with 128gb ram and a Chinese board for a decent price

id had my 2699 hanging around for a while but i found my board 50% off so cost me £49 + taxes about £58 and the ram id had for a while. i was amazed how good the board was better than a lot of mainstream jobbys ive had.

Same person also selling xeon e5 1660v4 on a Chinese board also 128gb ECC memory. I had a look at 1660v4 specs I'm surprised by the fact it can support 1.5tb of ram that insane base clock of 3.20ghz and boost to 3.80ghz coupled with 8 cores and 16 threads it only ended support from Intel in 2022.

Only problem is I'm tormented on decisions on choosing between two boards as one is x79 and other is x99

What do you folks do with that many cores/threads?
Didn't buy it as haven't the funds at the moment
Don't know if I want more cores/threads as 8c/16t is more than enough for me since I'm after avx functionality and better ipc depending on which xeon e5 v2 or higher I go with. But will make my mind up when I do get a chance to purchase the ideal set up

i use stacking programs to stack solar images which could use up to 64 cores if i had them.
like this.

What do we do?
I personally, do not know about others. But what I do, is doing some humanitarian work & cheat to get more badges on WCG.
Why?
Well, only thing important on WCG is the "amount of time used". So the more c/t you have, the more badges you have for "used time".
But why?
Why not? It is the "name of the game", so playing by those rules.

Fair enough. I just recently replaced a 12core(it was killed by a motherboard) with a 8core and I can feel the difference. I only bought the 8core(7820X) because it was a slammin good price! Also didn't want to pay $600 for a 10920X. Make no mistake, I will be getting another 12core or 16core, just waiting to find a good deal or possibly until a Threadripper 2920X or 2950X becomes a reasonable option.

I assume overvolting killed the cpu

In a way. Had a direct lighting strike on the powerlines in my neighborhood. Even some tech that was plugged into surge protectors were fried. We were luckier than some. That CPU was being OC'd and the motherboard took the brunt of the surge, taking the CPU with it. Interestingly, the PSU, RAM and all of the drives tested fine. We lost our plasma TV as well.

Jeez sorry to hear that nothing worse losing electronics to lightening strikes I never experienced one before

I say you had a job to keep track with the mouse cursor on the wide screen going from one end to the other end

i have a very big cursor and good glasses :) .

Neither had I.
What cpu did you have that died after it been electrocuted by the lightening strike

Handy I would struggle with wide screen let alone trying to wiggle the mouse violently to find the cursor on screen (LOL) due to my eye sight having tunnel vision as I would see the center part of the screen. At least my neck would be doing alot of excerise following the cursor
