I agree... had OP been running pre-release nightlies, but this isn't the case. Recurrent problems such as these shouldn't affect stable, certified drivers for a product that's been in-market for over a year. Between you and I, Vanguard has been the best thing that has ever happened to AMD. I just wish the suits who actually have the final say saw it the same way - because I actually fear where they'd be without it.
Well.. let's just say there is a reason I recommended uninstalling those Windows updates. Spent days fixing my own issues.

Maybe one day the suits will see the good Vanguard does. One can dream.

Amen to that. That will be the day Radeon becomes my first option again. Just like it was when I proudly owned the entire stack and 3 generations' worth of their HBM flagships all over my desk.

I've got a Vega 64 on the way for more options to help test. Excited to finally play with Vega!

Anyway, enough off topic.

If it happened on a fresh Win install then maybe it's something in the BIOS of the motherboard, try updating it. Or maybe the Windows updates are the culprit as those would be there even on fresh Windows install.
Or it's hardware fault and needs to be RMAed. I have the same model and zero problems so far.

instead of troubleshooting problems that will never be fixed because the Radeon community would rather stonewall
Yeah because you can't get an Nvidia card that's dud, that has never happened ever, only AMD cards can fail.

I am sorry, this isn't aimed at you but this why your average consumer is so braindead. They buy X product, product fails, they go on places like these and gets told "save yourself the trouble and buy from Y company bro, guaranteed to work".

They buy from Y company and what do you know, it works ! Wow amazing, clearly X is shit, it couldn't be the fact that these things have a low fail rate anyway and the chances of getting two defective products consecutively were close to none. Your advice here is about as amazing as OP being told to change his expensive overkill PSU because somehow even that's not enough.

You need to blow up AMD's customer feedback channels to get them to do something about these recurrent problems.
If the card has a hardware fault you're not gonna get anywhere no matter who you are talking to, or do you think if this happened to be an Nvidia card they'd just magically snap their fingers and the thing will be fixed ? He got told by sapphire to RMA, seems about as reasonable as an outcome you could get, AMD can't do shit about a product that is simply defective.

Please go into detail of the crashes? Are they crashes to the desktop? Full scale crashes where the machine fully reboots or black screen at the desktop requiring a manual reboot or a game restart? (crash to desktop)

I had some trouble with crashes when I first started running a pair of Radeon 5700 XTs.

My fixes where to set any setting that deals with the monitor To Never Turn Off any where it could be found.
Turn off fast startup
turn on gaming mode
turn off game bar
set the power mode to High Performance
set the monitors automatic standby setting to off (monitor menu)
set a screen saver to start after 10 minutes because windows seems to have a bad habit of not registering playing a game as an activity and is waiting to shut down the monitor when the time limit is reached to a black screen. A screen saver setting makes windows aware of mouse movement and keyboard activity and prevents shutdowns that resemble crashes.

After these settings my 7 Radeon vid cards have been nothing but rock solid and have had no driver problems since (except Septembers 2023 drivers while trying to you tube a policy problem created by You Tube)

From the description, it seems quite unlikely this is a hardware failure. If it was, it'd manifest more consistently rather than completely abruptly as it does here, under rather reproducible situations.

my suggestion is adjust the AMD adrenaline software, and max out the voltage to the GPU.
on my 7900xtx, lowering the voltage gives me better 3dmark speedway scores, but if i lower it to much i get “random” crashes in other software. (timespy, gtav etc)

(try 2960 max frequency, 2750ram, default, 1111mv, pl 15… (stable for me) that uses about 445watts on 2x Gimark stress test. with prime95, small fft, i pull 685 watts from the wall )

the max voltage on my xfx 7900xtx is 1150mV. (it stable, and “slow” at that voltage) if your 7900xtx is at that value, perhaps get a FSP hydro Ti pro 1000w to test (IMO, and hardware buster’s there is no better measuring PSU at 1000w) so testing with that will rule out the PSU.

or as a last resort, use win10 with only AMD drives and the adrenaline overlay (it is not causing problems) and installl the problematic software.

I'm wondering if OP tried balancing rail load on his multi-rail PSU. The PurePower 12M is multi-rail, isn't it?

He did anything within reason to rule out software issues, mine and many other's 7000 series cards don't randomly crash at stock settings. It's hardware.
I'm not going to speak for what the cause is for the thread starter since there's a lot of causes it could be, but I do agree this does need ruled out and looks increasingly likely as a prime cause if you've ruled out software and other hardware.

My own 7800 XT had issues from nearly the start, and I prolonged my suffering with it to rule out it wasn't caused by a combination of my software and other hardware with the new graphics card because I didn't want to return a graphics card that might be good on a "maybe". In the end I spent a couple months checking everything else and I eventually sent it in for RMA. A replacement was sent back (and Sapphire was super helpful and accommodating, by the way). So far (key words, but it's looking promising), I haven't had the issue return with the replacement. Hopping it doesn't.

Now I've had some other headaches with the returned one. Windows being Windows and forcing Adrenalin updates but that's partly Windows' fault. Version 23.12.1 also seems to have some performance and behavioral issues for me. I've also had a pair of TDR crashes in a game the faulty one actually never had the issue in (but I never tried 23.12.1 on it either which is what it happened with). I'm not sure if there's more to those two crashes since I both went back to 23.11.1 and haven't played that particular game as much (that game apparently used to be known for it with AMD hardware/drivers so I don't know).

I've also had pleasant surprises though. Like Adrenalin behaving so much better than Afterburner for recording. The latter would incur a severe performance penalty from recording. It'd also crash Minecraft (well, Java itself) if I recorded for over around 12 minutes or so. The raw files it made were huge. This AV1 thing is like magic or maybe I'm easily impressed. Then there's AMD somehow having better OpenGL/Minecraft performance now (never thought I'd see this day since this was always nVidia's thing).

Time will tell with me but yeah AMD's drivers do seem somewhat variable at times. But I'd definitely look at ruling out hardware itself too.

It could be "just" a faulty card, and that does not mean that all Nitro+ 7900XTX are not designed, manufactured or produced well.
Or maybe its something wrong on the rest of the system or its software related.

I can tell that because I have the exact same card and its flawless (tried it up to 401W TBP) while getting power from an ATX v2.4 750W PSU

They are display driver crashes that recover to the desktop. If it’s in a game that auto captures a screenshot, half the time said screenshot is the the last frame and the other half the time the screenshot is a black and white checkerboard.

It has two. And there’s only one thing to try when the psu has two pair power cables and the gpu has three 8 pin connectors and it’s the only accessory in the rig. There’s no conceivable reason I can see for the 12v rails to be a problem

Intel or AMD CPU? Any memory OC/running non standard timings (xmp/expo)?

Side note, I think somewhere it was mentioned you had a thermaltake PSU? Avoid every single one of their products like the plague.

It's 99% sure a defective card. My Nitro+ 7900xtx was a crashing POS out of the box. I didn't get a chance to try a replacement as Amazon was out of stock. A Powercolor Red Devil 7900xtx that went right back into the same PC was flawless from the moment it was installed - no driver change or reinstall. Bad cards happen, it has nothing to do with the brand.

It's certainly possible. My 6900xt Red Devil that I had before this card was rock solid. I don't think it ever had a driver crash, and renewed my faith in Radeon cards. Now.... eh.

I have Sapphire 6800XT and my friend has a Powercolor Red Devil Ultimate 6900XT. Zero issues with Windows 11 using them. They had coil whine initially but the kind folks here helped us fixed it :)

It could be something as simple as bad contact on PciE on the Motherboard

My card used to crash a lot, then i wiggled the card a little on the slot and all the problems went away instantly. Also are u supporting the card? thats pretty important....

Ignore all the AMD haters that are quick to trash the brand or jump to dumb conclusions.

Edit: Make sure its working at correct bus too

It could be something as simple as bad contact on PciE on the Motherboard

My card used to crash a lot, then i wiggled the card a little on the slot and all the problems went away instantly. Also are u supporting the card? thats pretty important....

Ignore all the AMD haters that are quick to trash the brand or jump to dumb conclusions.

Edit: Make sure its working at correct bus too

Yep it's a huge card and the sandwich that holds the Sapphire bracket in place is hard to assemble but quite solid.

See the screenshot on bottom left from a driver crash? This is incredibly annoying. I'm gonna RMA this thing.

I'm happening to have the same issue where my entire PC crashes and reboots instead of just the App/Game. Only happens running intensive games I guess from what I can see.
Did the RMA end up resolving this issue?

I play PUBG and have crashes with Sapphire 7900xtx nitro + blabla bla , but After 3 months of trying to fix it , I noticed that the game is much much more stable if I play on display based frames (in the game settings) IF I choose unlimited fps ,the game crash like once per game , and with display based crash 1-2 per day ( I play about 3 hours every day ) Understand it is not fixing the problem but at least you can play with less crashes :)

Unfortunately that did nothing to my problems with Destiny 2 - I am at withs end only thing left is to change PSU but I am reluctant because its a 1000w Silverstone Platinium and newer than my 7900XTX

I finally found out what the cause of my problems with Destiny 2 was. I had a dustfilter on my PSU a Silverstone ST1000 PTS that was completely filled with dust - causing the PSU to overheat under hevy load in the game - now it seems to be fixed
