Well, who would've guessed. Even the good ol' Phenom II X4 can stream VP9 1440p60 with only 2.5 GHz on the clock o_O

PhII_2.5G_CPU-Z.jpgVP9_1440p60.jpg

With a 4.2 GHz overclock it can also decode AV1 1080p60 and even VP9 1440p60 without any aid from the GPU. That's an impressive feat for the 2009 Deneb architecture!

Unfortunately, I couldn't test this CPU with fewer cores. Even though the motherboard can disable them, the system wouldn't boot, forcing me to remove the CMOS battery.

Now that I think about it, this isn't all that surprising. When those CPU's were new 1080p was already a thing people were doing, whether gaming or video watching. 1440p is the more interesting part and it's kinda cool!

Got my hands on this ancient bad boy, and will need the older 9pin VGA cable or adapter to test it, but it does power on.

Also has "G/sync"

Can't find anything about it online so far.

That is most likely a green or Amber phosphor monochrome screen. Good for early PC's, Apples and computers with the 9pin CGA/EGA connector.

Nothing blatantly visible. IMO, good to go.
Dust it might be nice.
Thanks Scotty :) I agree with you there it needs a good dusting .I will go for it :)I am getting this to go with it.For some reason the seller was selling the CPU on its own .i don,t know why he did not leave it in the board.o_OHere it is
no bent pins there.:)£25 including postage.

Lex can you see any bad caps on this board?View attachment 333756
Nope, those all look good!

I think that the R G B BNC connectors would indicate color...I had a Viewsonic Trinitron with BNC connectors... there is always the chance that I am wrong.
You're likely very right. I didn't click on those images. Thought they were adjustment knobs. LOL!

This CPU will not work with that motherboard. The board is socket 754, this CPU is Socket 939. The CPU physically will not fit into that socket.

No idea why they do that. If I had looked at the model number closer, it would have been clearer and then it would have only been confusing given the pin photo.

This is the reply he sent to me
* I can confirm that both the motherboard (assuming you're talking about the MS-7181 that I have listed) and this CPU are both socket 754, I have never owned any socket 939 parts. The CPU is currently fitted to the motherboard.*Here it is now and it is not fited.o_OMSI MS-7181 Ver 10 K8MM3-V - AMD Socket 754 Motherboard + CPU*It is not fitted as you can seeo_O

AMD Socket 754 Retro Motherboard

Suitable for Windows 98SE / XP retro setups - drivers are available online (not included).

IO shield included.

Tested, working.
What if the guy has put it in there beforeo_O if it did come with that board why did he take it out?o_OIt seems a bit dodgy to me.o_O and why no CMOS Battery in there?o_O Considering this is the only Motherboard he has on there i don,t know what his taking about. o_OI think i will give it a miss.

Gotta love some finds sometime. Saw this add for "free electronic junks" - noticed two GPU's in the pile, and that lovely cooler on the Gigabyte card certainly looks like the right era for it to fit other cards, worst case scenario I should have another decent cooler.

Well the card is a fully functional 9800GTX+ 1G and I'm having a great time testing it. Also an 8600GT 512M, not tested yet. These folk loved the double VRAM cards it seems.

The seller got back to me with this message
*Hi, sorry that was my mistake, I sent a photo of the wrong one last time. I've attached photo of the correct socket 754 CPU from this listing. No problem if you've purchased another one elsewhere though, you can still make an offer on the board.*
I put an offer in but i doubt if he will accept ,as i asked the loweast offer he would accept i put one in for £3 lower than he would accept. But you never know because of the miss takes he might accept.

Which is the best heatsink cooler for a 754 motherboard"

Spire SP804S3-1 / Socket 940 / 939 / 754 / AM2 CPU Cooler
1707656976154.png
Or

Akasa AK-861CU AMD Low Noise Cooler Socket AM2 754 939 940 Copper Base New Boxed

Both are new and the same price £7 but the Spire is make an offer.Or are they about the same? Only 3 reviews for the Akasa on Amazon

*Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 November 2015
Poorly Machined unusable
Its badly machined. The copper base appears to be help on by four brass(?) studs. Three of these are machined flush with the copper surface. The fourth one site a little proud, so the heatsink doesn't make proper contact. Temperatures are way up. 60 degrees C at idle.

My one came from MicroDirect, so may be a different batch from these. Its going to go in the bin without ever being used.*
No reviews of the other one though. :(
