Who would want a passively cooled 8800gt? They are aimed at the gamer/enthusiast maket, not the HTPC or midrange market. Passively cooled cards are for HTPCs.

looks like all they did was add a Heatsink from a Slot 1/2/A Processor. Beyond that HTPC, 8500/2400/8600/2600 are well capable enough for HTPC.

I actually like having passively cooled video cards for gaming. It is nice to know that if the fan fails while I am away from the computer, the video card will not burn itself up. I usually mount a 12cm fan so that it blows across the heatsink, and that usually does a great job of keeping it cool. If the 12cm fan fails, the card will get hot, but it is designed to run passively... so I would expect the video card will be fine once I got back and noticed the high temperature.

not all fans are noisy. most you cant even hear most of the after market coolers once the pc is powerd on. all 'buzzing' is drowned out by the Hum of your PSU. unless your PSU is one of them passive ones in which case I have no idea if they hum or not because Ive never actually heard of somebody getting a passive PSU

ontop of that there is also a soundproof material that u can buy & stick it in your case a bit like carpet that will absorb the high whiny sound of your fans if they are actually that noisey.

that is an absolute joke. unless your case if half a foot wide not many people can install that thing without cutting a hole in the side panel first

I like it! This cooler may be nessesary for a fanless option in a small case. The design is original. I know if I were to build a htpc, it would have the best, silent card I could put in it, and this would be it.

120mm looks a bit big for a single card (from the pics, they look like 60mm), but if you sli them, and if side by side, then 120mm can be an option.

That one site someone linked too yesterday or day before, was saying sometihng about a passive heatsink for the 8800gt. I believe, that huge honking cooler, was not what the site was talking about. Its bigger than the 8800gtx ultra. Thats one momma of a cooler.

Funny thing is they forgot to cool the lower mosfet row, those 3 near the bottom. Also that 1 big one is cooled in some stock coolers.
